Cambridge Audio DacMagic Plus (Black)
USB DAC/Headphone Amp
£99.95
Richer Sounds exclusive model.
The Cambridge Audio DacMagic Plus does the seemingly impossible and improves upon a legend!
The best just gets better
With a raft of improvements the Cambridge Audio DacMagic Plus is still the best way of improving the sound from your hi-fi, AV system, PC, laptop and now, even your headphones!
Massive improvements to the sound of your digital sources
The purpose behind the DacMagic Plus is simple: to make your music sound better, whatever the digital source. Plug in your Blu-ray, DVD or CD player via optical or coaxial connections (there are two of each) and enjoy up-sampled music quality that's better than CD. The USB connection for your computer supports 24-bit transfer for 'better than CD quality'. So music files stored on your PC or laptop in top 24/192 quality can be streamed, uncompressed, through the DacMagic Plus and enhanced by its DAC.
Bluetooth, to work with your phone or tablet
The Plus model has the option of being able to stream music from your smartphone or tablet via Bluetooth. With the optional BT100 audio receiver connected, simply link up via high quality apt-X or standard Bluetooth and stream your stored or streaming tunes from your device to the DacMagic and on into your hi-fi.
The best specification in its class
The DacMagic Plus has the highest quality digital circuitry possible at its price. Twin Wolfson WM8740 DACs, implemented in a dual differential mode, are complemented by an Anagram Technologies AFT2 24 bit/384 kHz up-sampling circuit. Up-sampling conventional CD 'stretches' the format to give the highest resolution possible, and also aids standard 24-bit/192kHz recordings with a faster sampling rate for less jitter.
How does it sound?
Up-sampling gives a smoother, more relaxed sound quality with added detail. You'll also notice enhanced depth and a more natural quality without the 'edge' that can afflict digital music. You'll hear every detail, including the odd cough, squeaky chair and flutter of sheet music; in short, it's like being there for real!
More than a DAC
First off, the DacMagic Plus comes with a dedicated headphone amp and volume control. More revealing, more dynamic and with less noise, the headphone output gives your cans a whole new lease of life. In addition it comes with a new digital pre-amp function. Combined with the volume control, you can now connect directly to active speakers or a power amp for a shorter signal path and superior sound quality.
With more features than ever but the same performance boosting appeal, the DacMagic Plus is more than magic, it's magic plus!

Great sound andfacilities
After research, I bought this 2 weeks ago, which I received promptly. Sound is great; not only enables quality streaming, but enhances quality of sound from CD player.

A Sonos Challenge
Sonos do not make headphones. I do have a Sonos Connect with an analogue output via phono plugs. The challenge was to find a way to convert the output from Sonos (where I have access to my Spotify library and other links - radio for example) to digital, where I can up sample to achieve better sound and have enough signal to drive headphones. Richer Sounds really helped.

Boost to digital audio
I have been using this for a short while now with my laptop, Chromecast audio and Arcam Alpha 7 CD player, it is defiantly an improvement over the Chromecast audio with the digital connection, with the convenience of streaming from my Plex server either high quality mp3 or flac files you can really hear the details.

Sounds great but ...
Purchased primarily to use with headphones and I am very happy with the sound which is more balanced and less harsh than I was getting from the headphone amp on my CD player (Marantz CD6006). The build quality feels high with the exception of the volume control which sometimes feels sloppy and unresponsive. The instruction manual is too technical for my liking while lacking in operating detail on how to optimise performance and to use all the functionality - for example, I have yet to work out how to toggle back from the volume control by-pass mode to the default preamp mode (one of several questions to ask when I get to visit a store). I found the RS buying advice most helpful, particularly the recommendation to use an optical interconnect between the CD player and DAC. After only a week, I am pleased with the purchase and looking forward to the enhanced listening experience.

Has transformed my PC's sound
I listen to most of my music through my Ubuntu-based PC. I wanted to upgrade my sound. Brought this DAC and connected to the PC via USB to either headphones or some Kanto powered speakers. These speakers accept an analogue input. The sound is fantastic.
Also linux recognised the Cambridge Audio DAC natively with no issues.

Perfect for my needs - CD player and Streamer
The first one they sent out came without a power supply so another was quickly dispatched. Great services and quick to reply customer service

Better than I thought possible.
Combined with my new CXC Transport, this DAC is absolutely amazing. I mainly listen to classical music and over the last week I've been revisiting some of my all time favourite recordings. I am discovering details that I have never heard before. The staging and depth of the sound is phenomenal. It really is a massive step up from my previous CD player. I would recommend disabling the volume control unless you use headphones.
