What Hi-Fi? magazine is the world's leading independent guide to home entertainment products. Any product they award with a 5 star rating is instantly marked out as one of the best around..
Freeview Play offers catch-up TV from BBC, ITV and Channel 4 integrated into the TV guide alongside live television. You will also be able to scroll back through the TV guide for 7-day catch up.
The bigger the hard disk (HDD), the more recordings you can save. 500GB will store about 250 hours standard def or 125 hours of HD video. For audio, that's 5000 CDs compressed or 625 at full quality.
If you have a wireless network at home, this unit can hook up to it straight away, without you having to connect additional cables or buy a "dongle" or other accessory.
USB sockets allow you to do all sorts of things. Most commonly you can play media stored on a flash drive, but some units can record to one too or connect accessories like video-calling cameras.
HDMI is the most common way to connect your devices. It can carry high definition picture, sound and even remote control commands between equipment.

A backward step!Compared to our previous Humax everything is a step backwards. In the few weeks that we've had it, it's already had the dreaded "freeze" once requiring a full restart.
All of the menus appear over a faded out image of the current TV channel, making the text unclear - why do this?
Also, when a show has been programmed for recording, 20 minutes before the scheduled time, the machine shuts off the show that you're watching for 5 - 10 seconds with the message "No Signal".
If you want to set up a recording 5 days ahead you have to laboriously scroll through the programmes 2 hours at a time! On the previous machine I could jump a day at a time.
Every press of the remote control leaves the using waiting for 5 - 10 seconds each time, making think that the machine isn't responding.
Overall this is a disapointing machine and not a patch on any of it's predecessors - shame on you Humax.

Great little box if you do not have satellite connectionFirst, I should like to thank the person serving me who correctly identified the product best suited to my house Aerial thus saving spending on something that would have had features of no use to me! I have had a Humax for many years but the old one passed out, assume its hard drive failed. This replacement is far more compact, delivers a great picture (HD where available) and has on-demand features to watch catch-up. All in all, very pleased with this purchase.

This product is not user friendly. This product is not user friendly. It was easy to install with the on screen wizard but from then on it was slow to switch on & completely took over my TV. The instruction manual was not very clear with basic instructions like switching on etc. I managed to record 4 programmes just to experiment & the next day they had all vanished. My previous recorder was a Samsung, much better overall.

Good in many respectsThe set up was fairly straightforward, but the instructions were not that clear. However, set up worked and we are getting used to it. Picture quality on non HD is not as good as it was without the box, but HD is fine. Recording features are very good, as are pause and rewind. The phone goes and there is no panic in missing the rest of the programme. Overall, very pleased with the product.
