"These AKGs are quite something. Bluetooth headphones that sound just as good as their wired counterparts." What Hi-Fi Sound & Vision Award Winner 2016.
Wireless freedom with Bluetooth Wireless meets award-winning design with the AKG Y50BT headphones. Simply pair them up with your Bluetooth compatible smartphone, tablet, laptop, PC or Mac and you're ready to listen - cable free. The Y50BT uses rechargeable batteries that can provide up to 20 hours of music playback. A USB cable is provided for recharging and, with a standard 3.5mm cable supplied, the music can continue, even when you've exhausted the batteries.
AKG signature sound quality The AKG Y50BTs boast class-leading sound quality. Larger than the Y40 models, the Y50s are ideal for use both on the move and at home. The larger size gives a deep, dynamic bass response that still has the typical AKG precison and refinement. The closed-back design keeps both outside noise blocked and also prevents leakage from the headphones to the outside world - making them a more commuter friendly pair of headphones.
Simple, effortless control and with mic built-in With a clear and easy to locate control panel on the side of one earpiece, it's easy to control the Y50BT. Adjust the volume, play/pause, skip tracks and answer/drop calls all from the earpiece control pad (note, when running in passive/cabled mode these functions no longer operate). With a built-in microphone on one of the earpieces, it's also easy to make and receive hands-free calls.
AKG quality and comfort The unique 3D-axis mechanism doesn't just make these headphones easy to fold and carry, it also gives a perfect fit against your ears. The soft, padded, headband and ear pieces simply add to the long term comfort of these headphones. Although light and comfortable, the Y50BTs are durable, too. The folding design helps when storing the headphones - as does the lack of cable! A soft travel pouch is also included.
Top quality sound with wireless freedom - AKG does it better than anyone in its class.
Are the headphones wireless? Optional requires a Bluetooth transmitter.
Do the headphones feature active noise cancelling technology to block outside noise?
Headphone sensitivity is measured in dB. The lower the figure, the more powerful the driving amplifier needs to be. Headphones for use on portables need to be of higher sensitivity than home hi-fi ones.
Impedance is measured in ohms and should be matched carefully to the driving amplifier for the best sound quality and reliability.
Frequency response is measured in Hz and gives an indication of how low and how high the headphones will go.
20 - 20,000
Length of cable supplied in metres.
Weight of headphones in grammes, without packaging.
The size and type of plug fitted and whether an adaptor is supplied. 3.5mm is standard on most portable devices whilst home hi-fi usually accepts 6.35mm (quarter inch) size plugs.
Open back headphones offer the most spacious sound but can leak sound, disturbing others. They also block less outside noise than closed back headphones
Closed back headphones block out more background noise than open back ones. They also leak less sound

Great for listening, poor for speakingSound quality paired up to my OnePlus 3T for audio is excellent and they are one of the more comfortable headphones I have used. I must have sensitive ear parts as any on-ear model tends to hurt after a couple of hours listening. If audio is your main use then I recommend these. However, I also need to use them as a phone headset and sadly the microphone suffers as it does in every other model of this style. It's just not loud enough and more than half my callers complain they can't hear me. I guess at the end of the day I will always need a boom mic ( and yes I have several pairs of headphones with this ) until someone can come up with a better answer.

Superb soundI bought these phones to a. listen to music without wires and b. to listen to the TV via my low delay bluetooth transmitter. The headphones accomplish both with aplomb. The sound quality is so much better than the cheaper ones I was using. The only negative is that these headphones won't allow me to use the graphic equaliser on my smart phone when using Bluetooth whereas the cheap headphones do. Oddly they work fine with my wife's phone so it is probably a function of the phone. Had the sound been not as good as it is I may have returned these.

Incredible sound both wired and wirelessMy first impression was WOW. The 40mm drivers sound amazing. I'm no audiophile but I can tell the difference putting these on compared to my older Sennheiser's. The quality is quite simply superb.
After a few days of getting used to the wired headphones I decided to try them with my phone via bluetooth. Pairing couldn't have been easier with my Samsung Galaxy S8. Listening to a few tracks I actually forgot I was listening via bluetooth, there is virtually no discernible difference between the wired and wireless. Absolutely no hiss or unwanted background noise at all. Amazing!
If you're concerned about the bluetooth quality of headphones based on past experience, don't be. I've owned lots of good quality expensive headsets from the likes of Sennheiser and Bose, to name two, but these are in a different league. Worth every penny.
My only criticism is the headphones felt just a little tight but they seem to have loosened up and feel much better now.

Headphonesheadphones atop my bald head, smiling in the sunshine may make me look like a twit or middle aged emoji but that doesn't matter. The lack of leads means I'm not tangled to my backpack or jacket pocket. These headphones connect in an instant, provide a good clear sound across the range without a bias towards a heavy bass distorting the sound. An emoji thumbs up for comfort, no pain caused by ill fitting earbuds.

Very Happy with these headphonesBought these as a birthday gift for my son after reading the rave reviews & trying them first at Swiss Cottage branch. Yash was very helpful, patient & informative & helped me enormously. My son who was a sound engineer & has a vast music libraty, is more informed than me with the quality of sound, was delighted with them & agreed that I'd made an excellent choice. I was so impressed with the sound for the price, I'm now thinking of getting a pair for myself also.

Excellent bluetooth headphonesI bought these to replace a second pair of Philips Fidelio M1 MKII headphones which broke. I feel it was an excellent decision. The built quality of the AKG headphones is far superior.
The AKG cannot compete with the Fidelio in terms of sound clarity, but they deliver a bigger punch in terms of bass. This suits my audio preference perfectly. All in all, I would say that sound-wise we are looking at a pair of headphones that can compete with others in the £70-90 price range.
The AKG Y50BT, however, are bluetooth. On paper that should translate to a worse audio experience. I've not found that and even when wired (these can also be plugged in to devices that don't have bluetooth) there is minimal difference. This is a technological marvel!
I've found that the bluetooth functionality has become essential and I would never have imagined the positive difference it could make to my listening experience. I urge you to try these. Few will be disappointed.
