Dual micro drivers Despite their tiny size, the Shure SE425s manage to pack in separate micro tweeters and woofers within each unit. It's these quality drivers that go a long to explaining the SE425's superb sound quality. Treble is absolutely crystal clear with high definition clarity that's usually the preserve of reference quality earphones. Despite their small size the bass is also powerful and rhythmic.
Sound-isolating tips Enhancing the sound of these earphones still further is the supplied pack of Sound Isolating ear tips. Using soft and flexible materials, these tips give a perfect seal, blocking the vast majority of background noise. The wide variety of tips also ensures that getting a comfortable fit is easy.
Designed for life Often an annoyance with small headphones, Shure has put much thought into the SE425's cable. First off, it features Kevlar reinforcement for a formable and durable connection. It's also detachable meaning that, should the worst happen, a replacement is easy to fit.
True audiophile sound within an in-ear design: the Shure SE425 lives up to the hype!
Are the headphones wireless? Optional requires a Bluetooth transmitter.
Do the headphones feature active noise cancelling technology to block outside noise?
Headphone sensitivity is measured in dB. The lower the figure, the more powerful the driving amplifier needs to be. Headphones for use on portables need to be of higher sensitivity than home hi-fi ones.
Impedance is measured in ohms and should be matched carefully to the driving amplifier for the best sound quality and reliability.
Frequency response is measured in Hz and gives an indication of how low and how high the headphones will go.
20 - 19,000
Length of cable supplied in metres.
Weight of headphones in grammes, without packaging.
The size and type of plug fitted and whether an adaptor is supplied. 3.5mm is standard on most portable devices whilst home hi-fi usually accepts 6.35mm (quarter inch) size plugs.
Open back headphones offer the most spacious sound but can leak sound, disturbing others. They also block less outside noise than closed back headphones
Closed back headphones block out more background noise than open back ones. They also leak less sound

A huge step-up from £100-£120 head/ear phonesI have been using Sony MDR650 (which are terrific!) so this was a big increase in price: so far though I haven't been disappointed. The detail is remarkable and after 20 hours of listening there is a marked improvement in sound quality.
They come with a range of buds (the spongy memory foam type AND the flexible, rubbery type) so you can see which suits you best and a carry case.
They're worn slightly differently to earphones I've used before (the cable loops up and around the back of your ear) and it takes a bit of practice to get them in properly. The reinforced cable is a bit stiff and makes them feel a bit bulkier than other brands but it's not really much of an issue - and when they're still working in 2 years I'm sure I'll be thankful for it (though the cable is actually replaceable).
In short if you're used to spending around £100 on a decent pair of earphones, you'll experience a really significant leap in quality.

Great all-rounders - and I mean that in a good way!So, is £199.95 good value? Yes. These earphones perform as well as open-backed over-ears, whilst giving the isolation of noise-cancelling cans, in a package which fits in a pocket. Bargain.
The sound: well, the clarity is extraordinary; and as for complaints about not enough bass: nonsense.
The monitor-style design takes a bit of getting used to - but only a bit: within a day you'll be fine getting them in and out, and they really are comfortable.
Oh, and as for "noise isolation" - no, really, they block it *all* out.

Best IEMs I've owned.I've owned some hi-end IEMs over the years. Bose & B&O A8s to name drop some. However the SE425s are by far & away the Best I've owned. The sound is every bit as good as advertised, when linked to my Astel Kern Jnr. What makes these special is some one has put a lot of effort into the fit & comfort. Once you have put a bit of effort into getting the fit right, they stay securely in your ear providing amazing sound insulation. Very happy with my purchase, especially as they were in an open box sale.

Outstanding performanceUpgraded from Shure SE315. I was happy with my previous set, however the SE425's raise the performance bar to a new level. A good fit is essential with in ear buds, so the various tips supplied should ensure a comfortable fit which will give the user exceptional performance.

Great ProductIn all honesty I am reviewing this product on behalf of my son. This is the second set of SE425's he has had. The first set served him well until he had an accident with them, hence the need for a second pair! He is studying drums at university and so In Ears are essential for sustaining his hearing ability long term. Not only are SE425's good quality they are reasonably priced so fit into the budget well. My son is never without his.
Additionally Richersounds offer excellent customer service, they are helpful friendly and know about the products they sell.

Great detail and clarityYou can hear a lot of detail with great clarity with these earphones. They are a noticeable step up from the SE 215s that I also have, which have now been relegated to use in the gym.
To get the most out of them you really need to use them with a headphone DAC / amplifier - I use the Oppo HA-2 SE.
Some reviewers have commented that these earphones are a bit bass light. I have generally found when listening to rock music the balance is perfectly to my taste, but on certain (not all) orchestral recordings, a bit more beef in the lower end might be needed (but this is more than compensated for by flipping on the bass enhancement switch on the amplifier).
If you want pounding, thumping bass, probably look elsewhere, but if you value clarity and detail over that, then you will not be disappointed with these.
Yes they're expensive, but you get what you pay for. Worth every penny in my opinion.

First class sound and great value for moneyI had to replace my Sennheiser IE80 earphones, which were comparable acoustically, but failed when the wiring at the junction with the earphone broke. The Shure SE425 are their equal or better sound-wise, but far more robustly constructed. As the wiring is more protected it is stiffer, the Shure earphones are slightly more difficult to put into your ears as well as to get back into the carry case, but in my book these are very minor points - and should the wiring break, with the Shure 'phones it is possible to get a replacement lead. Once in, external sound isolation is good, and my priority, the sound quality of the music, is superb.
The advice over the telephone from Richer Sounds was accurate and helpful - thank you.
A great buy.

Great clarity of soundThese were purchased as my SE315 were playing up and as they were still under warranty the team at Richer sounds gave me store credit as they no longer stored SE315, I was not convinced that I would be getter £100 (£219 is the most expensive head I have bought plus the iPhone remote cable) worth of better sound quality, how wrong I was. The crispness is amazing. If you are bass junkie these head phones may not be for you but if you want a perfect balanced sound then these are great.
My only gripe about the Shure headphones is that you need to buy and additional cable to ensure it works with your iPhone to make calls and have a remote. This was the reason I never changed brand, as the cable is circa £35 and I had bought it previously.
On a separate note the customer service at both the Birmingham and London Bridge store was amazing. Amazing people. I think on this experience alone I will be a loyal customer of Richer sounds
