With a powerful X1 processor at its heart, the Sony KD55XE8596 maximises picture quality.

X1 processor for sublime picture quality - whatever the source

We're now firmly in the era of 4K UHD but Sony realise that not all 4K signals are equal. A RAW 4K UHD signal from a 4K UHD player requires different processing than a Netflix 4K signal or a USB video signal. Sony's X1 processor analyses every signal and optimises it for the best performance possible. Thanks to Sony's X-Reality PRO 4K technology, standard FHD images can be upscaled to near UHD quality, giving the sharpest detail possible from your Blu-rays and other FHD sources.

4K UHD for sublime picture quality
With its UHD screen resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels, the Sony KD55XE8596 is equipped for the 4K UHD revolution. Four times more detailed than Full HD, 4K UHD gives awesome levels of realism are awesome - even when you're sitting close to the TV. Thanks to Sony's 4K X-Reality PRO technology, standard FHD images can be upscaled to near UHD quality, giving the sharpest detail possible from your Blu-rays and other FHD sources.

HDR - High Dynamic Range for stunning contrast
Taking 4K UHD one stage further, the Sony KD55XE8596 is also compatible with HDR (High Dynamic Range). This extends the range of colours for enhanced realism. It also delivers brighter whites and darker blacks, helping to give this TV stunning levels of contrast.

Triluminos display
As well as 4K, this Sony TV also boasts a Triluminos display; developed to produce truer, deeper and more natural shades of colour, with skin shades appearing far more natural.

Motionflow XR 1000Hz from a native 100Hz screen for smooth motion
This Sony is also fitted with a native 100 Hz screen for faster refresh rates. Combined with Sony's Motionflow XR 1000Hz, this screen gives the Sony super-smooth motion, that's both crisp and steady. Whether you're watching a fast-moving action movie or sports event, the Sony KD55XE8596 remains rock steady.

Android TV
Offering the slick interaction of the best smartphones, Android TV is one of the smartest content managers and providers to date. Boasting features such as GoogleCast, Google Play and Voice Search, this Sony 55" TV is part TV and part giant smartphone.

Voice Search and Content Bar for effortless searching
Even with such a massive range of content, finding what you want is always easy. Voice Search means you simply say what you're looking for and let Android TV find it for you. The unobtrusive content bar quickly lets you find the movie, TV show or video you're after. Call up the Content bar and you can keep watching, while you scan through live TV, on demand, downloaded TV shows and more.

Be immersed by the bigger picture, with the Sony KD55XE8596.

SONY BRAVIA KD55XE8596 is rated 2.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Nice picture, seriously flawed software. If you need a TV that can stream your Movies and Music libraries, along with Netflix, this is not for you. 4k and UHD content from Netflix, gives a good picture. However, sometimes the content can look like it's skipping frames especially when panning across scenery. Various Android apps don't have proper passthrough support for either DTS or DD5.1,(Netflix does). Streaming movies from an external drive is frustrating. Not only does it say 'unsupported video format' for random files it will also stutter during playback on others. Decoding DD7.1 and DTS Matrix 7.1/5.1 with this TV is a pain, you will either get no sound, sound out of sync, or picture stutter (ARC Limitation?) You have the choice of Sony's built in guide or Youview. If you disable the Youview app which quiet frankly is rubbish, you will no longer be able to use catch up services. You would think Sony would have released a TV with fully working software. Hopefully updates will fix these problems soon.
