Samsung Neo QLED a great improvement
Having researched a lot into the OLED or QLED arguments I went for the Neo QLED due to its brightness advantage but was a little concerned over the alleged deeper blacks arguments for OLEDs. I did not need to worry. The overall viewing experience is brilliant and I am also impressed with how user friendly the TV is. It is in a brightly lit room which seems to suit it very well.

Overcomplicated
TV picture is fine, the problem is with the ‘smart’ interface. It takes far too much control and, while endlessly customisable in some ways, cannot be set up to take a back seat. I don’t really know who this sort of setup is aimed at. I certainly wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who is not comfortable with techy stuff.

Excellent picture marred by terrible software
To start on the positive the picture from this TV is superb. I changed from a 6 year old Philips 4k 49inch 60Hz LCD. The major difference is the contrast. The mini LED panel on this TV is marvellous and apart from the occasional blooming that can be observed when there is a single brightly lit object (eg a loading icon when playing games) I think the average person might be forgiven for thinking it is an OLED. That is of course until you crank up the brightness and boy does it get retina burning bright! Overall this is perfect for me and my fear of OLED burn in. Also note worthy is the sound quality which is surprisingly good for such a slim TV. Bonus points also for the number of 120hz 4k capable HDMI ports, a luxury STILL only afforded by Samsung and LG. Excellent for Gaming, Excellent for watching Movies.
However the low rating I'm sadly giving this TV is for something that is completely within Samsungs power to address and despite many reviews (both customer and tech youtubers) they seem to not be anywhere near fixing. That is of course the software. Having used Samsungs phones for over a decade I thought the team that made the infamously clunky, ugly, labouringly slungish TouchWiz UI had been fired from the UX business never to return. It turns out that maybe (and I'm completely speculating) they now work in the Samsung TV interface design team. Compared to my 6 year old Philips running Android TV software that had it's last major update in 2020 the navigation experience on this brand new TV is actually equal to or slower in speed. This to me is utterly baffling. This is not just confined to the internet dependant functions - its navigating through settings, its switching sources, it's switching screen modes. One of my reasons for even changing TV was to improve the navigation responsiveness and yes there are some instances where it is faster such as with Netflix and Spotify which arguably are the biggest of the streaming services. The price of this TV however is about double of my previous Philips and I don't think that the software should be a cut corner at this price point. Even more so when something like this can be addressed by post purchase software updates.
I bought the TV in November and have since then mastered the quite convoluted TV remote(s) which understandably also feature quite heavily in the negative reviews. So fair being fair I don't quite see this as being a huge detractor from enjoying the TV now that I have adapted to it.
I am of course disappointed that software and UI improvement doesn't seem to be on the way. If it doesn't improve then this will most certainly be my first and last Samsung TV. If you always have had a Samsung TV then you likely won't know what you're missing out on but at least from my experience Android/Google TV is far lighter and quicker and logically laid out. If the "TouchWiz TV" software remains in 5 years time I'm afraid I'll be going with Philips or Sony for the better more clean software experience. Apologies in advance to the otherwise fantastic hardware engineers at Samsung.
