What is sound isolation?
Sound isolating earphones were originally developed as Personal Monitor Systems to allow musicians to hear their own performances in loud onstage environments. They work by using soft, flexible sleeves to block background noise, allowing small, high-performance drivers to deliver incredibly precise sound directly to the ear. By selecting from an assortment of included soft sleeves, you are able to personalize the fit of the earphones to your ears.

What is a triple high-defintion microdriver?
It is made up of three balanced armature drivers - one dedicated tweeter and dual woofers. It also includes an integrated passive crossover that ensures high and low frequencies remain distinct and defined. This allows you to hear the details of your music like never before.

Detachable cable with wireform fit
The SE535 features a durable Kevlar reinforced cable that allows easy replacement or customization. The formable wire ensures secure placement, and over the ear configuration keeps cables out of the way. The gold plated MMCX connector has a lock-snap mechanism allowing 360 degree rotation for comfortable fit.

How is sound isolation different from noise cancelling?
The seal created by a sound isolating earphone physically blocks most frequencies of background noise. Noise cancelling headphones are generally larger, heavier and battery driven. It uses active circuitry to counteract background noise, which may introduce unwanted artifacts in to your audio.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very detailed Bought these as a complement to my fidelio X2 open backed headphones. I wanted something that would allow me to listen to music without the rest of the world hearing. The X2's are great, extraordinarily comfortable and very fun sounding. But they leak sound, and let sound in from the outside as well. The Shure 535's do an excellent job as stopping sound from leaking out. In the dead of night and with thin walls, I can play music as loud as I care to and no one will hear. They do a great job at blocking sound from the outside world as well, so you can listen to music in peace. As for comfort, they are okay. Having used open backed headphones for the last few years, moving to IEMs was a change. I'll never forget I'm wearing them, as I can with the X2's, but they are fine. They aren't going to cause any major comfort issues, and the large choice of tips that they come with should allow you to find something that is comfortable. Sound: very detailed, was the first thing I noticed. I can hear even more going on than I can with the X2's. Especially when watching a movie or a tv show, there is a lot of extra sounds that I would have missed, such as some subtle breathing, or tyres rolling on the road. The sound stage was one of my biggest concerns, as it is one of the biggest high points of the Fidelio X2's. To my surprise, I found no issue with the sound stage. If I try to discern the difference, the sound stage is smaller, more centered. But it's not something I've missed at all. I'd describe these as a warm sound, similar to the X2's, but just a bit less on the bass and much cleaner mids. These are very easy to drive as well, using a decent sound card on my computer, without an amp inbuilt or otherwise, the loudest I go is 40 - 45. Conversely, the loudest I'd take the X2's is around 70. Certainly find to be used with a phone without an external amp. All in all, I'm very happy with the 535's. I still use my X2's, due to the convenience of slipping headphones on and off, the comfort, and the bass. But when it gets quiet, or I want to block outside sound, or I'm watching a movie, it's the 535's.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Audiophiles on the move These and the 846 are by far my favourite go-to in-ear monitors. To experience the full potential of these, have custom moulds of your ears done. The memory foam buds supplied with them are perfectly acceptable, however nothing will substitute custom molds for providing the air seal required to create the rich, enveloping acoustics that everyone searches for. The three micro-drivers certainly do there jobs well, creating clarity and separation between high, mid and low frequencies. For me, when purchasing audio, it's all about sound quality and these deliver everytime, perfectly. If you want over amplified bass, go elsewhere. If you want ipod controls included, go elsewhere. The people that want those things tend to listen to diluted and downgraded mp3 files, instead of lossless audio. Pointless. These monitors deliver the music as the artist recorded it in the studio and intended for it to be heard.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best headphones I have ever owned I have had these headphones for a long time now and use them everyday. They are as good today as the day I got them, this is even after my missus managed to put them through a full washing machine cycle a few years ago... (I thought they were dead at first but they came back to me eventually) They are a bit fiddly when you first get them but you soon get used to them and the cable starts to mould properly to your preferred shape. Don't bother with the iphone cable, it's expensive at £50 and I have managed to get through 2 of them as the cables fray over your ears, just stick with the cable supplied, it's tough just like the heaphone units themselves!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good but expensive. Handy to get an in-store trial Sounds nice and clear with decent bass - not as much as on Bose noise cancelling, but they take up much less space and don't boil my ears. Quite fiddly to put on but comfortable. Bobbi at the City branch gave great service by getting some into the branch to try out, which is essential for in-ear headphones.
