”The Beam Gen 2 delivers with a mature and polished sound and effective virtual Atmos performance.” ’What Hi-Fi?’ – 5 Star review.Beam made better
The Sonos Beam (Gen 2) is smarter on the inside and more beautiful on the outside. Inside, a powerful new processor facilitates support for Dolby Atmos. With non-Dolby Atmos material, enhanced virtual surround sound modes ensure that this is the most immersive sounding Beam yet. Subtle evolution of the design incorporates a new, perforated grille, highlighting the same sleek style and compact dimensions.
Powerful sound from a compact case
Although compact and unobtrusive, the Beam’s five internal speakers ensure it hits hard. Sonos speakers are renowned for their room-filling sound, and the Beam effortlessly upholds this tradition. From its deep, powerful bass to finely detailed top end, this Sonos soundbar doesn’t disappoint.
Support for cinematic Dolby Atmos
Use with Dolby Atmos-encoded content and enjoy a more spacious, immersive sound – just like at the cinema. Dolby Atmos creates an impression of height, letting you experience effects such as overhead aircraft and falling rain.
Upgrade to surround sound – effortlessly
Taking the Beam to the next level is easy with the Sonos family of speakers. When you’re ready for even more powerful bass and rear effect speakers, simply add the Sonos Sub and your choice of rear speakers. The speakers connect via wi-fi, for a speaker cable-free link. Use the Sonos app to find and link the speakers and, within minutes, you’re ready to enjoy totally enveloping surround sound.
Hear every word
Fine-tuned by Oscar-winning sound engineers, the Beam doesn’t miss a whisper of dialogue. When the action intensifies and you might otherwise struggle to hear the dialogue, simply turn on Speech Enhancement in the Sonos app.
Great sound – anytime of the day or night
The Beam doesn’t just sound good at cinematic levels, it’s just as impressive at lower volumes, too. When the kids have gone to bed or you don’t want to disturb the neighbours, simply switch to Night Sound. You’ll still get the same, perfectly balanced, crisp and clear sound, just without the same intensity.
The best with music
Much more than just a highly impressive soundbar, the Beam is a Sonos speaker and that means that it’s also made for music. The Sonos music streaming system is well established and widely regarded as one of the best in the business. If you don’t already have the Sonos app, the chances are that you’ll know someone who has. With easy connectivity to your favourite streaming services, plus Internet Radio and podcasts, there’s something for everyone. Not sure on what to listen to? Why not discover new music on Sonos Radio.
Optimal sound – with Trueplay
Whether you’re watching movies, gaming or listening to music, Sonos’s innovative Trueplay technology means you get optimal performance – in any room. Trueplay scans your room, analyses the results and then fine tunes the speaker for the ideal listening experience. Whether your room is large or small and the unit is placed close to a wall or in the centre, the Beam adapts to give the most natural and realistic sound possible.
Freedom of control
Choice is the keyword here. Use the Sonos app for effortless music streaming and personalised settings. Alternatively, the Beam is also compatible with Apple AirPlay 2 or hands-free, via Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant voice control. For streamlined control, your existing TV remote syncs with the speaker for one-remote volume and channel change. No remote or smartphone to hand? Then simply use the touch sensitive controls on the speaker itself to adjust the volume, play/pause and mute the sound.
The Sonos family
With a range of speakers that now includes portable, installation and home cinema, Sonos is the number one choice for millions around the world. The brilliant Sonos app makes it easy to control your entire Sonos system – no matter how large and all-encompassing it becomes.
Upgrade your TV sound and music to premium-grade, with the Sonos Beam (Gen 2).
”The Sonos multi-room system is still a great choice”. ’What Hi-Fi?’ 2021 Awards.
All the brawn
The key USP behind a subwoofer is to provide deep and sustained bass. The Sonos Sub doesn't disappoint on either front. Using twin, force-cancelling drivers with separate Class D amplifiers, the Sonos Sub provides a bass that is not only deep enough to rattle the windows, but also punchy, agile and dynamic. The bass simply sounds exactly as it should - fast and deep with zero cabinet buzz or rattle.
And now brainer than ever
The Gen3 version of the Sonos Sub features updated internals with increased memory, processing power and enhanced ability to accept future upgrades. When combined with the new Sonos S2 app, the Sub becomes the smartest subwoofer around. The app also gives you access to an adjustable EQ, for sound tailored to your preferences.
The Trueplay revolution - giving you tailored sound
The Sonos Sub also features revolutionary Trueplay technology. Trueplay scans your room, analyses the results and then fine-tunes the Sub for the ideal listening experience. Whether your room is large or small, densely furnished or minimalist, the Sub adapts to give the most natural and realistic sound possible (iOS device required).
Sonos style
There are subwoofers and then there’s the Sonos Sub. Available in gloss white or gloss black, the smoothly styled Sub looks way more stylish than the usual subwoofer. Sonos has even considered those really pushed for space as the Sub also functions horizontally as well as vertically, making it easy to place under a chair or sofa.
Made for your Sonos system
As you'd expect from Sonos, the Sonos Sub Gen 3 is a breeze to set up. With no wiring or programming required, simply press one button and follow the prompts from the Sonos app. It automatically adjusts the audio settings to ensure that the Sub is fully optimised to work with your paired Sonos components.
Feel the sound of the cinema and stadium, at home, with the powerful Sonos Sub.

Unobtrusive room filling sound, room shaking sub
Purchased a month ago as we'd moved house and wasn't allowed my 5.1 setup in the new place. Wanted something not too big as the TV stand is only 95cm wide. In the last month
have had chance to use with SD and HD television and On Demand services via a firestick and Amazon music.
Beam and the sub were packaged well. Setup was painless using the Android app, and was soon up and running. Beam sat below the television, the sub hidden behind a sofa.
In use SD telly is a vast improvement on the normal LCD television speaker. With terrestrial HD the sound is expansive and the sub adds bass.
It really comes into its own when watching Netflix, Disney+ or Prime Video through the Fire Max stick. Watching Gotham the bass positively rumbles and literally feels like the room is shaking with the explosions. Thankfully we're in a detached house - not sure I would please the neighbours otherwise - wouldn't recommend the sub if living above/below or next to someone.
Going from a 5.1 environment with speakers around the room to a single unit is a little weird. It is hard to describe - obviously sound comes through the Beam like a centre speaker, but equally the sound 'appears' to come from elsewhere, projecting the sound - even though you know there's physically one speaker. It's definitely growing on me and quite enjoying it. I don't think it would replace a 5.1/7.1 system for sound placement but convenience wins here - no wiring up speakers etc.
I haven't had chance to listen to Atmos content yet as the TV(2012 LG) seems to only push through Dolby Digital via HDMI ARC (Fire TV Max reports the TV only handling DD) - need a new TV I guess.
Listening to music is great - ultra hd content on Amazon music there is a real difference in clarity and quality. Have listened to all genres from 80s pop to dance, rock, metal, classical and everything I've thrown at it the Beam has handled competently. One of the best examples has been the Mind Bomb album from The The - crisp vocals, mid range and bass, but really filled the room and sound certainly appeared to come from somewhere far away from the Beam. Really enjoyed listening to it.
The only negative is that calibrating the Beam for the room requires a iPhone. Having only an Android phone I'm unable to do this. I was aware beforehand of this, I hope to "borrow" a friends iPhone to do this at some point, which might further improve the sound.
The pairing of the Beam + Sub is great. The sub handling the low frequency stuff and pumping out a huge amount of bass, and the beam handles the rest.
Overall the cost of the Beam + sub was a lot, but sound is really important to me and its something I intend to have for a long time.
