Sony NW-A105 (Black)
Portable High Resolution Audio Player
Also available to special order in green, blue, orange and red finishes.Enjoy both stored and streamed music, at the highest quality, with the Sony NW-A105 – the Walkman of today.
Highest quality components for the most detailed sound
Using many audiophile quality components, the Sony NW-A105 maximises every drop of detail. Film capacitors, a Fine Sound Resistor and advanced solder with gold content are just some of the hi-tech goodies usually reserved for Sony’s high-end ZX range. Together they help draw out fine detail and banish distortion to the lowest levels.
High Resolution sound – the reference standard music replay
Making the most of the exceptional component quality, High Resolution Audio takes music to the next level. The difference between Hi-Res music and typical MP3/AAC compressed music files is immense. Hi-Res music even sounds better than CD, giving a smoother yet at the same time more detailed sound.
Compatible with Meridian's MQA (Master Quality Authenticated) technology, the Sony NW-A105 delivers Hi-Res audio to studio standards. Although studio master quality, the beauty of MQA is that files are small enough to easily stream and don't take up so much storage space. A wide range of High Resolution files are supported, including DSD, FLAC and WAV.
S-Master HX low distortion amp
Unlike smartphones, the Sony NWA-105 features a built-in amp that’s optimised purely for High-Resolution Audio. Designed and made with incredible attention to detail, even the solder has been refined to maximise clarity. High precision components mean you’ll hear more of the music, more of the time.
Enhanced sound from compressed music files with DSEE HX
DSEE HX (Digital Sound Enhancement Engine) up-scales compressed digital music files to a level that's close to CD quality. Working with MP3, ACC, ATRAC and WMA files, DSEE HX restores high-level information previously lost in the compression process. The result is a more detailed, fluid and natural sound quality that's much closer to the original recording.
Supported by Android
Featuring support from Android gives the NW-A105 easy access to a massive range of media apps and music services. Available via the Google Play Store, a huge range of podcasts, media apps and streaming music services mean you’re never left without entertainment on the move.
Making the most of Android support, wi-fi compatibility lets you easily access all your favourite music services. On the move, at home or anywhere there’s a wi-fi signal, the NW-A105 has the power to connect to your favourite music.
Upgrade your computer audio with USB DAC function
The High Resolution DAC (Digital to Analogue Convertor) and associated hardware fitted to the Sony is much higher quality than the one fitted to most computer soundcards. Upgrade the sound from your PC or Mac by simply connecting the NW-A105 via USB (cable supplied). All the music stored on or streamed from your laptop, PC or Mac gets an instant upgrade.
Top quality Bluetooth with LDAC
Connect up to your headphones or speaker system with Bluetooth, for a wireless connection. Using Sony’s LDAC technology the sound quality via Bluetooth is greatly enhanced. Transferring approximately three times more data than conventional Bluetooth, music has much more depth and body than usual.
16GB internal memory with support for much more via microSD card
To get you going, the Sony NW-A105 has 16GB of built-in memory. Add an optional microSD card and the storage space increases hugely. A popular and cost effective 128GB card is enough for around 1250 High Resolution Audio files (24bit/96kHz, 4 minutes-long, 90MB). If this isn’t enough, the Sony supports microSD cards right up to a potential 2TB (note, 1TB cards are currently the highest capacity, commercially available).
Choice of listening modes, including Vinyl Processor
For sound personalisation, the NW-A105 offers a choice of equaliser presets and custom levels. It also features a Vinyl Processor. This creates a warm, characterful sound that’s typical of analogue playback.
Leave your smartphone for calls and social media – the Sony NW-A105 offers a whole new level of sound from all your stored and streamed music.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Roger the Pedant from Sound Since a bought myself a Sony WF-1000XM4 I'd been pondering adding the ideal partner. I'm glad I took the plunge and bought the A105. It's diminutive - smaller than I expected even though I knew the dimensions. I feel Sony missed a trick here and could have made it the size of Compact Cassette case which would still have made it pocket friendly and enabled a larger battery. The battery has had some criticism from other buyers. I've not had it run flat yet but could see that happening on a long flight for example. The again most of us carry auxiliary power supplies of some sort. Anyway, the sound quality through the earbuds is great. I'm using LDAC direct. The volume for most of my FLAC rips is fine; all depends on the original really. Hi-Res sounds amazing. I like the software player - it's neat and tidy. The cassette tape screen is a lovely novelty. I do wish Sony made an official case for it of some sort.

Rated 5 out of 5 by JPot from Doesn't get the publicity or plaudits it deserves! This is the third Sony hi res player between myself and my wife over the last four years and our 200 odd CD collection recorded on the Sony Media suite app has been used on all plus various hi res audio tracks bought on the Web from streaming services including latterly Amazon hd. Performance has been exemplary through quality headphones and the likes of audio pro and ultimate ears bluetooth speakers and also through our home main system of Denon receiver into Monitor Audio speakers. In all makes a quality hi res source to suit our varied systems and needs. Highly recommended!

Rated 4 out of 5 by arci90 from Lovely Walkman Love the walkman, It has a nice build quality to it, and the audio is great. My issues with this is that it's Android (thus, limited storage space, making me have to buy a new micro-SD), and that it's battery life is not great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Haemo_Goblin_456 from Excelent purchase Advertised as having 16GB of data, but does not make it clear the OS Android 9 uses 10GB of data, however, I have ordered a 128GB microSD card and will put all my downloads on there as it was telling it was full! This is not an issue for me as I will use my MicroSD card as storage space for mp3 and podcasts.I signed up with spotify and use it offline and it works like a dream but some settings need to be switched off or reduced such as the display, NFC and bluetooth as the lithium ion battery only lasts a short length of time which I think is temporary until I have used it let it run flat then recharge the battery a few times usually improves the longevity of Lithium ion batteries. Despite the battery and disk space I am actually quite pleased with it. The Sony Walkman is a nice size with a good weight, easy to use as its running android 9.0, the audio is amazing though it does get very warm if its in a pocket close to your skin. I put in it its case in a waist bag Bluetooth was off to save battery power and it continued to play whilst I was clearing out my loft, but would have been far better with wireless ear olugs instead of wiredmones as the earphone wire was catching on the beams and other items! I purchased the Sony Wallkman to listen to MP3s and podcasts and so far I am very happy with it and consider this to be a good purchase. The Sony walkman A105 is smaller than a Samsung phone and is easy to operate with one hand even if your hands are small like mine.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Rog N from Great sound. Poor battery. Bought to go with my new Sony wireless earbuds. Great sound and stable Bluetooth connection. Good Wi Fi connection. Looks and feels solid. Downsides are - incredibly slow to boot up, poor battery life, clunky android. Memory is tiny! At least it's expandable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Stephen BP from Top quality music performer I bought a ‘cheap’ music player and found that it’s Bluetooth simply wouldn’t drive my Bose speaker. I sent it back and got this. The menus are intuitive and I soon got to grips with it. It took me a minute to realise that I needed to download software to copy my music from my PC but once I’d done this it was easy. The keyboard is a little tiny and it’s easy to miss key but I soon got used to it. The other player was determined to shuffle my tracks. This is annoying when you want to play an album. No problem with this. Connection to my Bluetooth speaker was simple and the quality of the reproduction is immaculate. All together worth the extra money.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Mike RC from MP3 player I bought this a couple of weeks ago. I have 47GB of music, so I bought an SD card to expand the memory and put the music all on that. The blue-tooth works well. I am still trying to find how I connect it via wi-fi to my Marantz player. Instructions that come with it could be clearer. I eventually found information on the internet, but by that time I had added my Google account to the player, which of course comes with all the other Google add-ons which I didn't want on m player. There is now not much memory left on the internal memory, due to Google. Just as well I downloaded all my music to the SD card. I am also trying to work out how to put all my albums into artist alphabetical order. I thought I had done that in the settings, and whilst some are in alphabetical artist order, not all are. I would also like to see the player slightly larger so a larger battery can be fitted to extend the battery life . It would also be nice to swipe left and right through my albums, like get on an apple ipod. Having said all that, appears still to be a good player and I am sure I will get used to it, and am still pleased I bought it

Rated 5 out of 5 by Ynot36 from Very neat and compact. Had the NW A105 for 2 weeks. The Sony PC software isn't the most user friendly but once I copied the 168Gb of FLAC files, the player is a perfect CD jukebox the size of a credit card. Played through wired Sennheiser 280 HD Pros the sound is excellent. Volume is set high but not max, plenty loud enough.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Archiefifty from Great product but schooling battery life I brought the nw-a105 a few weeks ago to replace the I pod I was using, the nw-a105 is a perfect replacement but the battery life is shocking even after following Sony’s advice on battery life. Fix the battery issues and it will be a must have MP3 player.

Rated 4 out of 5 by whads354 from Fabulous piece of kit with one exception It's superb, great sound quality and easy to use for both streaming services and downloading your music collection from a pc. The one downfall is it's battery life, as many mention. If you're both streaming and using bluetooth the battery % drops quickly. If that's not a problem for you this is an excellent product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by thepars85 from 5 Star Sound Quality I have owned a Sony NWZ-X1060 for many years and have not found another MP3 player that matches the sound quality.... Until now. The NW-A105 is brilliant. The sound clarity is amazing. Yes, it's more expensive than an A35/45 etc, but worth every penny for the sound. The battery life is an issue, but if you use this as music player and not for looking at cats doing funny things on YouTube then it's okay. The update has helped and with the WiFi disabled you'll get some extra playback time.

Rated 3 out of 5 by warneshall from Not for Apple MAC Users - A100 Walkman® A Series Not user-friendly for Apple MAC users. Overall not a bad piece of kit if you are working via MS Windows. Somewhat less functional on the Apple MAC. On windows, the software is available that will effectively manage the Walkman interface. No such software available for the MAC OS, other than a 3rd party widget that allows you to transfer audio - and that's about it. The player lacks some fundamental features, for example, you can not create playlists on the device. In fact, the only way to create a playlist is via the Windows Walkman app. No feature yet available for Mac users, so, no playlists!!!. Other niggles include: Systems menu is well hidden unless your eyesight is keen and spot the cog-wheel, watch out for the voice interface feature - the pop up blocks access to key configuration options and you are unable to select or changee them.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Uncle Monty from A mixed bag 2 stars for the great sound and 1 star for the wonderful tape cassette graphics but stars deducted for the pointless Android OS - it's not necessary to have phone apps on a music player, keep it simple! - and, worst of all, the annoyance that half my files are listed as 'unknown' with no artist, album or artwork - my Astell & Kern player has no problem with this.

Rated 4 out of 5 by NukeYourNanny from Great Device let down by small battery Everything about this device is stellar from the listening experience and having lots of settings to tweak the music at your fingertips. However for some reason shuffle is hidden in the settings? Which makes no sense as its a feature that i find is used more often than loop track. Also the battery life is less than expected from a device that is designed to be able to connect to the internet. When all battery saving modes are turned on it only lasts about 2 days with small amounts of use. A beefier battery would go really far to make it a better product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by millfarmer from Good player but short battery life I bought this as a replacement for my old iPod Classic. I needed high capacity and this Walkman offered everything I wanted as well as wifi so you can stream music from the internet too. Combined with Sony's excellent Music Centre software I was able to replace my iPod with a machine that did loads more. The disappointing part is the battery life which drains surprisingly quickly. The old iPod would have several days of play life in it when used a few times a day, but the Sony requires a charge pretty much every night. What's more the battery drains when the unit is left on but not playing. I’m really surprised that it runs out quite so quickly. Playing an hour long album seems to take up about 10% of the battery life. My old iPod would play for a good 24 hours on a single charge. If the Sony had that facility it would be an incredible machine, but unfortunately falls slightly short.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Wightknight from Great Sound and All the Benefits of Streaming I am really pleased with my Walkman. The sound quality is excellent, particularly now that I have bought Sony WH-H910N headphones. The sound quality on this device is significantly better than my mobile phone, with a much better soundstage and loads of extra detail. As often happens with good hi-fi products, you end up enjoying music you know well afresh and notice many new elements to it. I don't buy that much music now and mainly use Spotify, so the ability to stream music is wonderful. I have downloaded dozens of albums to the device so I have plenty to listen to when not connected to Wi-Fi. (When this product was first released, the sound quality of streamed services was restricted, but this was corrected in one of the updates.) Two small criticisms. First, the battery life. This player is half the size of a mobile phone so the battery must be tiny. I expect to get several hours playback from a full charge, but I need to keep a regular eye on the battery levels and recharge whenever I get the chance. Second, Android updates. It runs Android 9 which is OK, but it desperately needs the battery usage improvements that came with versions 10 and 11. Sony would do well to update this device as soon as possible.

Rated 4 out of 5 by raymikid from Best MP3 player on the planet I was apprehensive about buying this walkman as there were a lot of negative reviews regarding the battery life. I will not lie, most of these are right, the battery life is relatively poor. However, the sound from this player is amazing! OK, at most you can expect around 9 hours playtime with airport mode on, but do not underestimate the sound of this little dynamo, it is fantastic. Even with its failing, I thoroughly recommend it 100%. The extra expense is definitely worth it. Trust me it's brilliant!
