A classic design refreshed. The Tannoy Mercury 7.2 is the do-it-all speaker.

Suits all music

The Tannoy Mercury 7.2 is an evenly balanced speaker that’s designed to get the best from all types of music. It’s suitable for bookshelf mounting but is at its best when stand mounted. Larger than the 7.1 model, it gives an even deeper bass and greater volume in larger rooms.

High resolution
Featuring a Nitro-urethane damped tweeter, the Mercury 7.2 will hit frequencies as high as 32,000Hz Although this is well above what we can hear it does mean that the high frequencies we can hear are less affected by harmonic distortion – making it the ideal match for Hi-Res music sources.

Punchy bass – even when using smaller amps
Featuring a 6 inch bass cone, the Mercury 7.2 reaches right down to 42Hz. This gives it a deep, extended bass that can only be bettered by adding a subwoofer. What’s more, thanks to the high efficiency design, the Mercury 7.2 can easily be driven by most amplifiers – even if they’re lower powered. At the other end of the scale, a power handling of up to 200 watts means the Mercury 7.2 can handle some of the most powerful amps around.

Smart good looks
With a choice of Black Oak, Walnut or Oak vinyl wraps, there’s a wide choice of colours to suit your home. To protect the drive units from accidental damage, removable grilles are fitted as standard.

Good-looking, versatile and great-sounding, the Tannoy Mercury 7.2 is a reminder of just why the Tannoy brand is so famous.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great sounding speakers I recently purchased these based on advice of the shop assistant. Very pleased with the sound quality. I mainly listen to indie, rock and some hip hop...all sounding good. Bought for £99...can't go wrong!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good speakers, but,,, These are great little speakers and are 89db sensitivity not 87. They are easy to drive with an old teac mini system. They have excellent bass for their size with Bad Manners, Ian Dury(Norman Watt Roy) and Depeche Modes Music For The Masses(original not remastered version). They kick with Thomas Dolby's Dissidents. They will be excellent front speakers for an A/V system playing films and most probably wont need a subwoofer. The problem is i listen to a lot of spoken word and old british tv shows on dvd(through the teac mini) and music only occasionally and that bass is too much for a small 3m x5m room in a 1st floor flat. You really need to drive them from an amp with tone controls so you can turn down that bass a bit(when needed) and you really need to audition these 1st, i am disabled and couldnt get to my local store so i had to take a chance. The speakers are not bad, i made a bad choice(possibly?,,), the smaller 7.1's(no longer availible) may have been a better all rounder. I may have to return a great pair of speakers :(

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well designed packages. Purchased nearly a year ago after shop staff recommendation. Everything sounds relaxed and refined on these speakers. I will buy more during the Christmas period.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Capable I am still in the process of running these in. Very nice finish in walnut and attractive looking speakers from a trusted brand. Sound is balanced and clean with good stereo imaging. I am using good QED cable which is always a good idea to the most out of speakers. Have them set up on Target stands filled with sand. I bought these at the offer price which means you are getting a product from range designed to a higher price point at the price of a budget set that they easily out-perform. In relation to the options at the top price there may be slightly more refined options but just slightly and you will never get the same deal on the alternatives elsewhere. This is one the great strengths of dealing with Richer Sounds - you get a lot of product for what you spend as well as the trademark top class service service from the lads in Belfast.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great sounding speakers Currently using these as the front two and side surrounds with a matching centre for HT duties. Work great in this application. Also excellent as a stereo pair. Bass is excellent for this size of speaker. Well built. Box includes foam bungs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Clean sounding speakers with a neutral balance Had been looking to upgrade my Monitor Audio MR 1's for some time and had pretty much decided on a set of Wharfedale 220's but after talking to Tim in the Plymouth store i went with his recommendation and took home the Mercury 's. Forget the somewhat negative review in a certain magazine , in the ' real ' world the Tannoys are superb sonding speakers. Punchy agile bass, clear midrange and a sweet treble with no frequency sounding dominant . They provide a really clear , clean sound with excellent soundstaging and are transparent enough to dig deep into a recording , at the current price a bargain .
