It's back! Familiar in style but completely re-engineered, the Technics SL-1200GR is better than ever.
The legend continues
Developed as a turntable that was sturdy enough to be used professionally but simple and attractive enough to use at home, the Technics SL-1200 was a hit from the beginning. Starting life in the early '70s, the SL1200 lived through many versions and is still seen by many as the reference deck for club use. The latest SL1200GR model is designed to appeal equally to DJs and audiophiles. With a wide breath of abilities this turntable truly does it all.
Coreless direct drive for the smoothest rotation
First developed for the top-spec 'G' model, a coreless motor is used to cut down on vibration. Development of a single-rotor, surface-facing, coreless direct-drive motor, results in the elimination of 'cogging' which can afflict other direct drive decks.
Rotation control developed through Blu-ray technology
Using motor control technology developed through Blu-ray players, the SL-1200GR verifies and corrects the precision of the motor for perfect pitch stability.
Heavyweight platter construction
Everything about the SL-1200GR's construction is designed to reduce vibration and improve sound quality. The new die-cast aluminium platter features rear-bracing and is 800g heavier than its MK5 predecessor. The improved mass and rigidity improves speed stability and reduces distortion for a cleaner, purer sound.
Fully adjustable tonearm
With high precision bearings and Technics's gimbal suspension system, the S-shaped tonearm is a classic Technics design. It also offers a wide range of adjustments, including VTA (Vertical Tracking Angle), weight and bias, making it ideal for a huge range of different cartridges and even different thicknesses of slipmat. The detachable headshell makes swapping cartridges a quick and simple process.
Connect your own cables
Rather than using static cables like SL-1200s of the past, the SL-1200GR features gold-plated RCA phono terminals. These let you choose your own length and quality of cable that's worthy of a deck of this standard.
Increased pitch control
A new 'x2' button lets you double the range of the pitch control from +/- 8% to +/-16%. This extra range makes it even more flexible as a mixing tool and even handier in the studio than ever.
A reference standard for your home or studio, the Technics SL-1200GR is a true legend within its lifetime.

Excellent product by all accounts
Excellent product by all accounts, though not yet set up as we are awaiting the phono stage (on order). The turntable will allow me to enjoy my 78rpm collection along with my vinyl LPs, with an appropriate change of stylus - also to make speed adjustments which are often necessary with shellac recordings.

Superb Customer Service
I recently purchased my beautiful Technics SL 1210 Turntable plus Ortofon 2M Bronze Cartridge from Richer Sounds Lichfield. The whole process from start to finish and delivery was fantastic. Superb levels of customer service throughout. I am delighted with these products and the sound is absolutely exquisite. Thank You Richer Sounds and I would not hesitate to recommend you to anyone.

Amazing product
I am happy with my turntable but really should have bought it many eons ago. Music is just more musical on LPs and this turntable is a solid investment. Technics quality is so reassuring right out of the box. Also wish I had Richer Sounds install this for me.

Technics sl 1210GR + Ortofon 2m blue
I recently bought the Technics sl 1210GR and added the Ortofon 2,m blue cartridge. Thanks to David at the Jamaica street store in Glasgow for setting up the cartridge for me it was appreciated. The service was outstanding from David and the help that I got when I asked him about the Ortofon 2 m blue cartridge really helped me choose. Plus I also bought the Grado SR80x headphones which are excellent. If you are interested in anything ( hi fi ) then look no further than Richer sounds Glasgow . Can't recommend them enough.

Awesome super duper trooper!
Ordered this and waited in anticipation for it to arrive direct from RS. Happily, it arrived earlier that stated! Unboxing it was a pure delight! Packaged with precision, removing each component released the fresh odour of quality engineering. The process of levelling the platter and balancing the arm after fitting the newly purchased Ortofon Concorde Club took a little work although was particularly enjoyable in a geeky kind of way. Once in place and adjusted, the choice of Sault’s, Seven album was a great first listen! The blank track was quieter than I remember from the1210 mk2 and the sound unleashed had acres of clear distance between instruments, voice and frequencies. The bass thumped and the snares cracked! Superb!
I fully intended to spend £800 on the mk7 although seeing it in the flesh next to the 1210GR at the Maidstone branch, I immediately committed to spending the extra. This is quality engineering like the original 1210 with huge improvements in the power supply, motor and sound! Need to find a way of justifying a second deck to my wife who already signed off this purchase as a mid life crisis! What if she’s right?!

A major step above the clones in build and sound
I have owned similar looking turntables from other manufacturers for a number of years and they have been more than adequate with my aging vinyl collection (50+ years in most cases) The Technics SL-1210GR is a major step up in all respects. The attention to detail and build quality shows in the reflected extra price but is worth it if you appreciate both engineering and music as I do. The interest free credit was the icing on the cake as well as the well informed and superb telephone ordering service and subsequent customer service. 90% of my audio visual requirements have been from RS since they opened their store in Cardiff back in the early 80's

Disappointed with the quality and finish
I was excited when I placed the order for this Technics SL1200gr in silver, but unfortunately the overall quality of finish was not as I expected. The rubber mat is off centre when the platter is spinning and the hole looks like it was made with a kitchen knife.
Not good considering the price,
My unit’was made in Malaysia but I understand that the unit’s produced in Japan are much better quality
