This processor intelligently enhances the brightness of hundreds of different picture elements, giving incredibly realistic and detailed images. X1 Ultimate is also the power behind upscaling FHD images to UHD 4K – bringing new life to your Blu-ray collection and non-4K TV shows.
Full array LED backlighting with X-tended Dynamic Range Pro gives stunning realism

The TRILUMINOS display with X-tended Dynamic Range Pro offers true-to-life colour for a more natural and believable colour balance.
IMAX Enhanced brings the cinema home
Take the next step-up in picture quality by switching to IMAX Enhanced. Used with IMAX certified 4K HDR content, IMAX Enhanced uses their proprietary digital remastering technology (DMR) to deliver ultra-vivid images. If you want to recreate the look of the movie at the cinema, IMAX Enhanced gets you closer than ever.
Get the best out of Netflix, with Netflix Calibrated Mode
If you’re a movie fan and use Netflix, you’ll love Netflix Calibrated Mode. This setting bypasses many of the TVs processors, giving you a picture that’s much closer to how the filmmaker’s originally intended.
The smoothest images with X-Motion Clarity
Sony’s X-Motion Clarity with 100Hz native panel, makes use of the LED panel’s full array dimming technology to deliver smoother and brighter images. By controlling the backlighting with greater precision this Sony 55” TV offers enhanced realism, especially with fast-moving sports and action movies.
Sharpen up the sound with Acoustic Multi-Audio
Sony’s unique Acoustic Multi-Audio speaker system enhances the sync between what you see and what you hear. By placing two, sound positioning speakers at the back of the TV, the sound precisely tracks the image. Independent amp control ensures absolute precision of sound, making the audio more life-like than with conventional TV speaker systems.
HDR support, including Dolby Vision
HDR maximises picture quality, bringing detail to the darkest areas of the picture as well as making the overall image look more life-like than ever. As well as HDR10 and HLG formats, this Sony is also compatible with Dolby Vision. Dolby Vision optimises the HDR format to give quite simply the sharpest, most accurate images possible. Very much an industry standard, Dolby Vision continually adjusts the picture for the most remarkable realism.
Smart Android TV
Bringing together photos, music, movies, Internet and apps, the Sony Android system makes accessing a huge range of entertainment easy. The Android platform brings more apps than any other smart TV platform, meaning you’ve got the widest choice of smart TV possible.
Voice control your TV
Featuring Google Assistant built-in, this Sony TV effortlessly becomes part of your Google/Android home network. If you prefer to use a different platform, the Sony’s compatible, too. Apple AirPlay and Homekit compatibility makes it possible to integrate with your Apple system. Support for Amazon Alexa devices also means you can voice control via your existing Alexa device.
Adjustable stand suits your support
If you’re placing your TV on a narrow cabinet, table or other support, you may find the stand that comes with the TV is too wide. Sony have thought of this and provided the KD-55XH9505BU with adjustable feet to get around this problem. If you’re using on a wide support or with a soundbar, the feet are set at each end of the TV. With a narrower support, simply fit the feet towards the TV’s centre for flexible positioning.
Sleek, Sony style
With its slim, aluminium bezel, this Sony TV looks every bit as sleek and timeless as you’d expect from a BRAVIA design. The elegant legs not only provide adjustable support but also have handy cable management built-in.
Sharpen up your TV sound and picture, with the Sony KD-55XH9505BU.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Mimia123 from Some irritating quirks Not very happy. Weird behaviour when switching between services with the sound. Can’t use the remote to control the sound bar when the sound bar is connected using the optical cable. Just too quirky

Rated 5 out of 5 by RichA101 from Stunning picture even in a bright room We will only buy Sony because the quality is superior. Nice App features too. Wall mounting fixings could be a little deeper to allow longer bolts,

Rated 3 out of 5 by Sony126 from Not that blown away, I was expecting more. Second unit after the first one lasted but 24hrs, I had a 1080p Sony before this 4K replacement as a treat, same size 55 inch. So in a nutshell you’ll get strong colours, darker picture generally, actual picture quality improvement is mediocre and I’m not sure how it won such strong awards, in terms of post purchase consonance or dissonance I’m not so sure. I expected more I guess
