Valve and transistor amp – for the best of both worlds
The Unison Research Unico Due is a hybrid amp, meaning you get the best that two technologies have to offer. There’s a valve input stage and a powerful MOSFET transistor output stage, giving a smooth and fluid valve sound with ample power to drive your music to high levels without distortion.
Smooth sound
Featuring an ECC83 valve stage at the input end, the Unico Due processes the signal with natural and fluid response you’d expect from a valve amplifier. Once processed by the valve stage, the input is passed on to the powerful output stage.
Mighty power
Unlike pure valve amps which, typically at this price, would have less than 20 watts of power, this hybrid amp has an impressive 100 watt output. Thanks to the Class A MOSFET power amp, there’s room-filling sound on tap. As well as the powerful, dynamic sound, another benefit is the ability to use a wider range of speakers – even inefficient designs are effectively driven by this hybrid amp.
Built-in DAC for direct, digital sound
Featuring a top quality ESS Sabre DAC (Digital to Analogue Converter), with USB input, simply connect to your computer or smartphone for direct, digital audio. Compatible with file sizes up to 32bit/384kHz and DSD 256 compliant, this is an excellent way of playing your digital music streaming services and stored files, fuss-free. There’s even an RCA analogue output from the USB DAC, letting you output the digital signal to another system.
MM phono input
With an input set for a Moving Magnet (MM) equipped turntable, the Unico Due is ready to play vinyl – no extra phono stage is required.
Comprehensive connectivity
As well as the built-in DAC and phono pre-amp, this flexible amp has plenty of other connections. Three, line level inputs cover the most comprehensive hi-fi systems. The variable output is ideal for an active subwoofer. There’s a line level output for recording, too. For convenience, a remote control is also supplied. There are also bi-wireable speaker sockets, letting you maximise the performance of your bi-wireable speakers.
