Featuring a comprehensive specification plus Yamaha's usual strong attention to detail, the Yamaha TD500 is bound to receive a strong reception.

Multi-band including DAB and DAB+

Although not yet available within the UK, other markets have already adopted DAB+ and with it being standard on the T4030 you're covered for the future of digital broadcasting. It uses a higher quality MPEG-4 codec, similar to that found in the Apple iPod/iPhone, to give higher sound quality with reduced power consumption. The T4030 also features conventional DAB radio for full compatibility with current digital radio stations and FM analogue radio is also included.

Plenty of features
With 40 presets for DAB, 30 for FM and 30 for AM you're unlikely to ever run out of storage space, while its twin-line, 16-character display, is one of the clearest and most comprehensive readouts. The FM frequency is fitted with comprehensive RDS station tagging including Traffic Programme information. In addition to the analogue outputs there are both optical and coaxial digital outs for direct connection to a digital amplifier. Finally, the TD500 also comes with a neat remote control.

Superb construction
Using a complete metal case with aluminium front panel, the Yamaha TD500 is very well made. The immaculate external finish is matched by a similarly flawless internal design and construction quality, which not only ensures long-term reliability but also promotes low background noise levels and reduced distortion.

The perfect match for a Yamaha amplifier but also an impressive tuner in its own right, tune in to the Yamaha TD500 for the best in radio.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Always good service Why do we always go back to the supplier who delivers a problem free purchase? Because the staff are knowledgeable, enthusiastic,, have opinions that help you decide. Our hi fi has turned out (after having bought the most expensive upmarket stuff 40 years ago) to be entirely purchased From Richer Sounds, from the Cambridge Azur 600 Amp to the new Onyx tiny white speakers in the kitchen. A great business model based on continuous service and good qualty products provided over years

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Tuner I purchased this tuner to replace my 30 year old Technics model. Easy to set up and great sound quality with my outside DAB aerial. I still wanted FM and AM and this unit delivers those as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of the best Hi-Fi Tuners available I am really pleased with this tuner; it was easy to set up using the auto tune function on each of the three bands. The sound is clear and accurate within the bit-rate limitations of DAB. Switching between the same station on DAB and FM you can clearly hear the more natural sound on FM. Dab+ works fine for the 4 stations I can currently receive. The display is clear and has a three step dimmer but like most digital displays it is less clear in direct sunlight. The remote has tuning up/down buttons on the right but once you have programmed your favourite stations it is easier to use the preset up/down buttons on the left. Possibly one day internet radio might be able to reproduce hi-fi quality, but for the moment this tuner is probably the best you can buy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sensitive reception and detailed sound I bought the Yamaha TD500 Tuner (and the Yamaha AS501 amplifier with which it pairs nicely) to replace my really ancient Yamaha CR620 Receiver which gave faithful service for well over 40 years. FM and DAB reception are both good and setup was easy. The tuner and amp pair feed into two KEF speakers and both sound great, with depth, weight and clarity. Anneka at the Solihull branch could not have been more helpful.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The last great tuner? I bought this not to obtain DAB/DAB+ (I have internet radio for that) but because my new AVR doesn't have any tuner built in. Don't believe the hype, DAB does not sound better than FM, and this tuner is proof of it. It is easy to use and looks nicer in the flesh than it does in pictures. It has a lovely neutral, airy sound with no sonic nasties. I think you pay more for a tuner nowadays since they have become a dying breed, but if you want something that is great sounding and both backwards and forwards compatible, you probably won't go wrong with this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent tuner This tuner was to replace our old Sony FM tuner as the signal was becoming poor on many stations even with an outside aerial. The set up was very easy, and setting presets a breeze. The sound particularly from DAB is fantastic. I highly recommend this tuner to anyone looking to upgrade to a DAB tuner. The fact it has FM/AM the s a bonus.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Seems to do what it should with little fuss Bought this recently for professional use testing DAB+. Can report that it does seem to decode DAB-Plus correctly at all the bit-rates we tested; from 32kbps to 96kbps in 8kbps increments. Differences between the ODR software encoder and a professional encoder based on Frauhofer code were readily apparent in most cases. Impossible to know for sure, but seems very likely the AAC+ decoder works 100% properly. THe S/PDIF output seemed to work fine. From memory there was a bit of bass rolloff at the analogue outputs, nearly -3dB at 20Hz, not a complete killer but not too clever either, hence we used S/PDIF into an outboard converter. (Almost certainly just capacitors a bit too small somewhere in there, a silly bit of corner-cutting). These are shipped preset to switch off automagically after 6 or 8 hours operation with no button pushes... rather annoying at first in pro use. However, this is easily corrected (defeated) via a menu as long as you have the dinky little remote control to hand. The signal quality meter did not seem to give much information as noted by other reviewers, but I did not spend any time evaluating it in detail, and have no other domestic sets to compare to. Some low-cost pro gear we use (Inovonics 662) certainly has much better metering. The whole presentation is little different to a typical 1980s or 1990s FM tuner, which is a bit disappointing in 2017. Built down to a price of course but the build quality seems acceptable, slightly above mid range. It should last if looked after and kept as cool as possible. Interfaces are basic but OK (F type for RF, unbalanced analogue and S/PDIF on phono sockets without gold plating, fixed mains cable). Did not detect anything horrible in the area of interfaces, mains hum seemed absent (below -75dB for sure anyway, so it should be!). At least a IEC mains inlet plus earth pillar, plus gold plated phonos (just to ensure solid connections over time), should be expected at this price point. DAB tuner DAC arrangements making any significant difference to the sound quality, in typical use? ... LOL! Highly, highly unlikely to be significant. There are for more grotesque things going on in the typical total DAB signal path than any need to worry about things like the final DAC. Typically, poorly set up and / or inappropriate broadcast audio processing, bitrate compressed and / or re-pre-de-compressed programme feeds, and inadequate DAB transmission bitrate will all be far more significant than anything going on in the receiver.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fits well with my other Seperates First thing that struck me was the weight compared to my old Sony. Tuning was so simple too, virtually plugging into the power supply and away it goes. Sound quality is superb. Bright clear info. on the screen. Lovely little hand set which allows you to pre-set the radio stations to your listening priorities. This little darling punches above it's weight.
