MusicCast for music all around your home
The Yamaha WXA50 is part of Yamaha's hugely impressive network audio system, MusicCast. With MusicCast you can control all your compatible Yamaha MusicCast products via your smartphone or tablet. Play the same music on all the components or split the sound into different zones for different moods in each room; the choice is yours. The MusicCast CONTROLLER app also lets you operate the speaker and change settings quickly and easily.
Wi-Fi with Spotify and AirPlay
Connect via Ethernet or wi-fi to your home network and gain access to a whole new world of entertainment. From here you'll be able to access a massive range of Internet radio stations plus music services such as the hugely popular Spotify and Naspter. Also standard is AirPlay, making it easier than ever to stream from your Apple iOS devices.
Stream music from your mobile with Bluetooth
With a Bluetooth receiver built in, it's easy to enjoy your music from other devices. Pair with your smartphone, tablet, laptop or PC and wirelessly stream all your favourite music. With the possibility of streaming music services, such as Spotify Premium, Deezer and Tidal, as well as your own music library, you get access to near unlimited music!
Compatible with High Resolution music files
The Yamaha WXA50 makes a superb choice for listening to your High Resolution music files. It's compatible with WAV/FLAC 192kHz/24-bit, Apple Lossless 96kHz/24-bit, DSD 5.6MHz and even the new AIFF 192kHz/24-bit formats. Using a high quality ESS DAC (Digital to Analogue Convertor), the sound is sensationally detailed.
It might be small, but the WXA50 uses a 55 watt amplifier and powerful processing to great effect. If you're listening to compressed music files from an MP3 player or smartphone, Compressed Music Enhancer enhances the frequency response for a brighter, more open sound. The clever volume-adaptive feature automatically adjusts the bass and treble levels in line with the volume. Advanced bass extension gives a deeper bass that's ideal for when matching with smaller speakers. Finally, if you'd rather hear the music exactly as the producer intended, Direct Mode bypasses all processing for the purest sound possible.
Wire it in with USB, optical or RCA phono
As well as the wide range of wireless connectivity, the WXA50 also features a USB interface plus optical and RCA phono inputs. The USB socket is ideal for USB stick devices while the phono inputs let you hook up a traditional Hi-Fi source such as a CD player or turntable with built-in pre-amp. The optical input is ideal for connecting your TV or Blu-ray/DVD player.
Compact and stylish
More router than conventional amplifier-sized, the WXA-50 can easily be accommodated; it can even be turned on its side for really tight spaces. The rigid casework is made to Yamaha's usual high standards and, with 1U rack mounting capability, ideal for professional use.
For one of the finest and most flexible music streaming systems around, just add speakers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Morespeedvicar from Big Sound, Small Package! Very solid and sweet sounding amp. Have used both as a network streamer and via Bluetooth and it sounds amazing. How Bluetooth has moved on! I use this in our dining room /study (approx 7x3 metres) with an older set of Tannoy Mercury Custom F1 speakers and they really sing with this amp. The sound is crystal clear and really fills the room. The amp has oodles of power on tap and sound quality from Spotify or music files from a phone or tablet is superb. I feel silly for not investing in one of these earlier.. I knew Yamaha motorcycles are good, turns out their hi-fi equipment is pretty too notch too! The Yamaha Musiccast app is pretty decent once you get it set up properly - was a bit of a faff to connect to our WiFi network but well worth the effort. App provides a huge array of net radio stations to listen to also and I'm looking forward to spending more quality time with this feature while working from home. The app also links with Spotify, Tidal, Qobuz and Napster so plenty of options. Overall the amp is compact, looks good, is rich-sounding, good value for money, feature packed and delivered with the usual excellent service from Richer Sounds. Recommended by a happy customer!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Grahamgill from Excellent sound quality It may be small , but is plenty powerful enough , and drives my Dali Spektor 2 speakers very well. Also looks smart and sort of retro ish . My only criticism is the music cast app is not great , which doesn’t really bother me as I only stream through my phone . Delivery was very quick , came next day . Very happy

Rated 5 out of 5 by mde24 from Yamaha quality in a small package I bought this for my home office, and the small footprint allows it to fit in a space where a full-size amplifier wouldn't go. The dark grey metal finish looks fabulous and the box itself feels sturdy and well-built. It took a while to work out that the colour of the status LED is the source indicator, but once understood, it's an excellent way to have a minimalist design. My only complaint about the unit itself is that the volume dial doesn't appear to work very linearly: at the low end there's a noticeable gap between "notches" but higher up, a 360 degree rotation of the dial appears to make only a marginal difference. I've not used the MusicCast app much: the setup could have been more user-friendly but it does seem to do what it should. Sound quality is what you would hope for from a good Japanese amplifier at this price point: a faithful if characterless reproduction. It's driving a pair of Monitor Audio Bronze 100s which Richer Sounds recommended as a good all-round match. After a few days of tweaking the speaker setup and positioning, I'm really pleased to agree with them :-) I've been pleasantly surprised how well the Yamaha handles demanding basslines at a reasonable volume in such a small package.

Rated 4 out of 5 by MBD88 from Great sound. Simple setup. Clean design I bought this a couple of weeks ago. I’m happy to say it is easy to setup. It also sounds great as you would expect from Yamaha although not as powerful as I expected. I have it driving a pair of Whatfedale Diamond 11.2.

Rated 5 out of 5 by JDav from Yamaha Music cast I bought this main system and 3 additional items to work with it and have in exceptionally pleased with the outcome. They are used to link 8 ceiling speakers that were previously redundant, +2 additional stand-alone systems, to create a complete sound system throughout the house controlled from our telephones. Highly recommended.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Anonymous from Sounds great but missing Amazon Music HD Sounds beautiful using AirPlay on my son's Iphone, but unfortunately, there's no native support for Amazon Music HD - Yamaha introduced support for it on their Musiccast app last year, but apparently only for certain devices in their product range - with a heavy heart, I've had to return it - now looking at the Denon DNP-800NE only this time, i'll read the small print! :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by JohnWNY from Launch into MusicCast After much online searching and discussion with the local Richer Sounds store, I have finally decided to launch into MusicCast for the first time. My old mini hi-fi was abandoned together with CDs, tapes, and mini-disks (remember those!) A Yamaha MusicCast WXA 50 now drives my cherished old speakers, links to a new MusicCast 20 speaker and picks up the TV sound output. Setting up couldn't have been easier and control via the MusicCast App is a delight Music, radio, podcasts and streaming services are now a few taps away. I would control it via Alexa but I don't want to share the pleasure!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Sebwaxx from Fantastic Piece of Kit I bought this after spending weeks deliberating between various amps and receivers and I'm so glad I did. It's linked up my turntables and telly to my Q Acoustic 3020i speakers perfectly and sits in vogue on my bookshelf without adding another clunky black box to the living room. While the app could definitely be cleaned up a little, the ability to play internet radio and stream music via wi-fi is such a hit. The quality is such an improvement from my previous Bluetooth set-up and allows me to take calls on my phone without affecting playback. I'm looking forward to investing further into Music Cast so I can make use of it's multi-room functionality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by LegoYodaX from Superb, Functional Amplifier Bought to replace a faulty Marantz PM6005 this is the tiny little AMP that could. Sound quality is "Yamaha" i.e. you get a great quality output and it feels natural and punchy. Power output is 70 Watts in to the 6 Ohm speaks I have and it drives them very well and easily pushes them past comfortable listening levels without losing control of the music. It's great basically, very musical. The Smart functionality is good, and very versatile with a great integration of the major music vendors (Tidal personalyou can control things with is "ok" and can be a little quirky and slow (plus everyting is on by default to you have to de-configure some integrations to make it navigable) but the remote works fine and the amp can be operated without the app anyhow. I already have other MusicCast devices and this integrates seamlessly with them. Highly recommended, great bang your buck.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Onehungaforlife from Good multi room amplifier For mutli-room at around half the price of the Sonos Amp this is a winner. Expert reviews of the amp itself are complimentary and I based my purchase on those. It's hard to review this amp without reviewing the MusicCast system; basically it is perfectly usable but it could be slicker and I'm sure with updates it will continue to improve. I like being able to link my MusicCast soundbar so that TV sound plays throughout the house to never miss a key sporting moment, for example. I plan to expand my MusicCast system further throughout the house with more of these useful amps.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Arc_11 from Great sound, and good connectivity, small size Not under powered for my 8ohm 100 Watt Ruark epilogues, which is great considering it only has a 60 watt transformer. I bought this mainly so it didn't take up so much room in the limited space I have. Really nice being able to switch it on and off from Alexa, and the fact that the LEDs can be dimmed right down is a plus in my bedroom at night as there is always a red LED on it in standby. The music cast smart phone app is really handy and allows me to use my speakers for music from my NAS box or internet radio even when my PC is off which I use connected through the optical on the amp. I had to turn the high end / treble down a little in the smartphone app on the equalizer to stop so much sharp sound coming from my epilogues which are the references monitor versions of these speakers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by labid from More than lived up to expectations Living in Italy, it's a pain trying to buy things from Richer Sounds as there's no international delivery so I'd been after this amp for over a year before I finally managed to get one. It's brilliant. I needed an amp in my kitchen to go with some Q Acoustics 3020s I bought a while ago that I could send music too over my wireless network. I can open iTunes, select it as a speaker and it'll switch on even when it was one standby. I can have it play music in one room and while my main amp plays the same music in the lounge. Not only that, I can play music from my phone either by bluetooth or over the wireless network. Some have criticised the app and I'll admit, it's not brilliant but it works to set up things like equalisation which I needed to do given I'm constrained to poor speaker placement given my kitchen layout. It's a solid little amp with plenty of power that sings sweetly through the Q3020s and is happy with everything from Plaid to Mussorsky.

Rated 4 out of 5 by hufton from Great sound and flexibility Looking for a one stop shop for my audio streaming needs and came across this. Had previously been using an older amp and some recently purchased speakers with a variety of streaming dongles (Amazon Echo dot, Apple Airport Express, Google Chromecast). This thing does it it all and does it all very well. Sounds is good, app decent and above all it works with all sources with no hassle. Great purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by vcbull from Fantastic Piece Of Kit! Have had this unit for about a month now and what can I say? I wish I had bought it earlier. It does everything you want seamlessly. Sound quality is great and streaming quality is first class. Set up is easy. Build quality is first class. I cannot fault it in any way. If you are looking for a streaming amplifier just buy this. You will not regret it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by PJat70 from Great little amp I bought this to drive two very good old speakers but without the usual black boxes and cables. The blue tooth feature means I can enjoy my music again in excellent quality and not have to put up with my top end but thin sound system. Best of all I can find all the music I want from the internet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by NeilC23 from Quality product from yamaha I bought this with the understanding it was a home networking wireless speaker system, and what a purchase it has been. The exspert advice I received in richer sounds has gave me everything I wanted and more, because I can now upgrade speakers for even better sound and add to my network with more wireless speakers. This bit of kit is well worth the money and at a fraction of the price of it’s rivels!!!!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by FuzzoTronic from Compact, flexible unit Used as a kitchen system with Monitor Audio Bronze 1 speakers. Nice compact and robust construction. Streams just about any source and the sound quality is pretty good . Errs slightly on the safe side, which is a good thing given the broad range of potential sources, so the top end remains controlled whilst there's decent bass too. Spotify Connect is great and means you're not continually draining the battery on your phone/tablet, it's just a controller the WXA receives the stream directly. Wi-Fi has been stable. Music Cast App is straightforward and allows multiple devices to control the WXA with seamless handover. Drops a star for: - the Net Radio for internet radio, which is clunky to use and limited for some mainstream uk stations. -The 55W rating seems optimistic -The plastic volume control. It's totally at odds with the rest of the design and is a sharp edged bit of ugliness you'd not find on a £5 radio. Fortunately you don't use it much, but it should be an aluminium item to compliment the design. At the new lower price there's not much to touch this little Yamaha unit currently.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Mark from Holmfirth from Endless Possibilities!! I bought this over Christmas from RIcher Sounds in Leeds and have been that impressed, I did something I never do - which is write a review!! Firstly I did ALL my homework: Sonos, Heos, Naim, Sony etc. etc. These guys all offer multi room audio solutions, however I constantly kept coming up against nigle’s with functionality- eg. Sonos can’t handle hi-res audio and has very little connectivity even with its ‘connect’ amp if you’re trying to pull together existing sources. Other systems were either too expensive or just didn’t sound right. Granted my needs were quite specific; I’ve just finished a property renovation and wanted a system that could drive both wired and wireless speakers - this was made slightly more difficult by the fact id only put single wires in the walls for multiple speakers channels, which without going in to too much detail, requires a powerful amp to run 2 x 8 ohm speakers in series (essentially 4 ohms). Anyhew! The results are verging on the sublime. I’ve got a beautiful little amp the size of a small hardback book that can be stood flat or tall. It’s powering 4 x Cambridge Audio Minx 22’s and a Sub in a large kitchen and diner - and the sound quality is excellent (I’ve also tried it with more expensive bookshelf speakers for even greater effect...) but that’s only the start; next I bought one of the Multicast speakers (wx030) and also a YAS 306 soundbar which are in different rooms. The sound quality is great - as good as anything I heard from Sonos! and I have them all linked via the Multicast app. Everything worked out of the box - no problems connecting to my router and then to both my iTunes on my phone and also Spotify through Multicast. Ive even got an optical out of the kitchen tv into the amp and again can ‘cast’ this around the house. Oh, and don’t forget the Bluetooth transmission: any of the MusicCast devices can broadcast out to other Bluetooth speakers (not Yamaha or MusicCast!) if you’re wanting to take the party into the back garden for instance. All in all a fantastic amp that packs a lot more acoustic punch than much larger uglier boxes with future proofing that will see it well into the 22nd Century. :-)
