Take your existing Hi-Fi system to a new dimension, with the Yamaha WXAD10 MusicCast streamer.

Make any Hi-Fi system a MusicCast system

Whether this is your first MusicCast component or an expansion to an existing system the WX-AD10 is the ideal way of making your current Hi-Fi part of the MusicCast family. Setting up is easy; simply plug the WX-AD10 into the AUX socket via the Yamaha’s 3.5mm mini-jack or RCA phonos, connect to the Internet and you’re good to go.

MusicCast for sound all around your home
The Yamaha WX-AD10 is part of Yamaha's hugely impressive network audio system, MusicCast. With MusicCast you can control all your compatible Yamaha MusicCast products via your smartphone or tablet. Play the same music on all the components or split the sound into different zones for different moods in each room; the choice is yours. The MusicCast CONTROLLER app also lets you operate the speaker and change settings quickly and easily.

Advanced networking including Apple AirPlay and Bluetooth
Built-in Apple AirPlay means that you can stream music from your Apple iPod Touch, iPhone, iPad or other compatible Apple device, wirelessly. If you use another brand of smartphone or tablet then you've also got Bluetooth, for easy music streaming from your portable device.

Wi-Fi and DLNA for effortless streaming and Internet radio
Also standard with the WX-AD10 is Wi-Fi, giving easy connection to your home network. A DLNA certified connection makes streaming a breeze. You can access your stored music from PC, laptop or NAS drive and listen to Internet radio stations and music services such as Spotify Premium, Tidal, Qobuz, Deezer and Napster.

Putting sound quality first
Using their own technology, Yamaha have produced an audio circuit that’s low in jitter and high in terms of its signal to noise ratio. This means you hear more detail and less distortion. Best of all, the improvements can be heard from all sources, including Bluetooth – making this one of the highest quality Bluetooth receivers available.

Hi-Res Audio playback
At the heart of the Yamaha's digital processing is a top quality Burr Brown DAC (Digital to Analogue Convertor). This not only provides a punchy and lifelike sound but also facilitates the playback of High Resolution audio formats. The WX-AD10 is compatible with a wide range of HD audio formats, including FLAC 192kHz-24-bit for exceptional sound quality.

Clavinova joins MusicCast
Unique to Yamaha is the ability to connect to your Clavinova digital piano and use it as a wireless speaker! If you fancy more involvement with your music then you can easily play along, as the music streams.

Join the streaming revolution, with the Yamaha WX-AD10.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent DAC for Streaming Bought this to replace an Airport Express that had died, to stream music to my hifi. Superb sound both via Airplay and Bluetooth. Has a bunch of features I don’t need, but it does the basics so well it doesn’t matter. Thoroughly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does just what I needed Really great little box for making my separates system wireless connected
Date published: 2019-05-06
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good, entry-level way to achieve network streaming I bought this in order to enable me to stream to my existing separates system. The WX-AD10 is a compact box and can be connected to via Bluetooth or AirPlay. I primarily used it to stream music from my iPhone, and it was very capable. Although I was initially intending to use the WX-AD10 as an AirPlay target to my separates system, it also includes the ability to connect to a DLNA server (in my case, Plex), which I have done to access music from my NAS, streaming CDs that have been ripped to FLAC without problems. One limitation is that when connecting using the RCA input, you do not get any volume control. You need to control the volume on the amplifier. The WX-AD10 is also a first step into creating a MusicCast network, providing multi-room audio capabilities. However, as I only had this device, I didn't experience this, although I will likely look to purchase some other MusicCast devices and to enable this functionality. The MusicCast app is "okay". It has to be said that the MusicCast app is not as well designed or as functional as the Sonos app. As mentioned, it provides support for streaming from Bluetooth, AirPlay and DLNA, as well as Internet Radio and some of the main online streaming services including Napster, Spotify (Premium only, unless you use the Spotify app to stream from your phone), Qobuz, Tidal and Deezer. It doesn’t (yet?) have support for Apple Music or Amazon Music, which is a regrettable omission and hopefully something that Yamaha will address. Ultimately, I returned the WX-AD10, not because I didn't like it, but because my amp started playing up. I replaced it with a Yamaha R-N602 receiver: An amplifier with all the MusicCast functionality built in. If you have a working system, but want to add network streaming at a very reasonable price, the WX-AD10 is certainly worth a look.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Updates legacy Hi-Fi for Streaming I bought this to add to my just replaced AV receiver. The new receiver is Yamaha, the old one a Sony 3500ES which is now in my office with this little unit proudly sitting on top. Very easy to set up so I can stream music from PC, phone or iPad using Airplay, connect TIDAL for hi-res streaming and interconnect with the new Yamaha receiver. Supports Bluetooth as well if I ever need to use that. Dropped 1 star because it doesn't have an optical output but that is tolerable, it just should have had one for the price. It is better than just adding a cheap Bluetooth adapter. I tried that but the audio just wasn't right. It would have been even better if it had an analogue input to transmit as well as receive but you have spend a lot more for a Yamaha device to do that, which makes it relatively very good value. I am happy with this unit as it does just what I needed and it does it well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Connection issues at first, but all resolved My wife bought this as a birthday present for me. the only issue I had with it, was connecting it to my home WI FI (looked online for troubleshooting, but too many to take in !) Eventually, I connected it with an Ethernet cable, and then it picked up my WI FI, so fully working and all issues resolved, Now pleased with its performance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great way to "modernise" traditional hi-fi. I wanted to find a way to allow my 38-year old hi-fi to play the music from my large collection on an iPad remotely without the need to connect the two physically. I had looked at a number of options, from cheap Bluetooth devices to the very expensive Sonos Connect. My amp has connections for two sets of speakers (Main and Remote) which I have wired up to connect to three pairs in three different rooms. It was also important to be able to control the volume from the iPad. The WXAD10 was the perfect solution being relatively inexpensive and fulfilling all my requirements. The sound quality is great, albeit my system is an old Technics Z tower hi-fi which could best be described as mid-range. It was necessary to install the MusicCast app to set up the streamer and then use the good old-fashioned method of trial and error to establish how to get everything working together. Once this was sorted out I had the, for me, perfect marriage of old and new. Excellent support and customer service from Richer Sounds.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really clear sound. I bought this to replace a product which made my phone music sound muffled through my old Denon stereo system and was difficult to connect to. This WXAD10 was pretty easy to set up and the clarity of the sound I now get through my system is brilliant. Very happy with it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Unbeatable at the price For several years I've streamed music to my separates system via Apple Airport Express (AEX) and a Cambridge Audio DAC. The AEX packed in. I considered selling the separates and buying a Sonos 5.1 to replace it. Thankfully some wise heads persuaded me to think again, and last week I found the WXAD10. This streamer sounds worlds better than I'd expected it to. The GUI is a bit clunky and the MusicCast app isn't as intuitive as it could be. I'm not suggesting it's better than Sonos, but I've realised that the weak link was in my streaming set up, not the hifi. I'd love a Cambridge Audio CXN, but for now I'm more than happy with the WXAD10. Recommended without question..

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Astonishingly good sound for the price I'm using the WXAD10 with a venerable Technics A700 mk3 amp and Mordaunt-Short MS25i speakers. It's an unobtrusive, positively dinky little box: its appearance really doesn't betray its quality and power. My CDs are all ripped to lossless (flac) files and stored on a Synology server, and I wanted a way to stream them without losing any quality by shoving them through a bluetooth connection or playing them via a cheap and nasty smartphone DAC. I mention this because it's more complicated than streaming from Tidal or Spotify: if you just want to do that, you shouldn't have any problems getting started and you can skip the next paragraph of network geekery. Initially I couldn't reliably get it to play anything reliably in my kitchen: the app just timed out whenever I tried to browse the music on the server and was on the point of returning it. But once I moved it into the same room as the server (luckily, that's the room it was intended for) and shifted all the music into alphabetical folders (e.g. `music/S/Superorganism` rather than `music/Superorganism` it all worked smoothly. The wifi in the kitchen is connected to the main router via a PowerLine link, and I think it really didn't like the combination of a large number of folders and a slowish network connection. Now I've got it working, it's doing the job perfectly. I'm not really an audiophile but the sound is, to me, indistinguishable from the original CD. I'm currently listening to Doesn't Mean Anything by Alicia Keys: instruments are well-separated, the vocals are clear and lifelike, and the bass is tight and punchy. Of course there are compromises at this price. The app is not the prettiest or the most stable: I've tried both the Android and iPhone versions: feature-wise they seem identical but I found the Android version better able to handle list numbers of folders and files without timing out. However, this is anecdotal and your mileage may vary. You can also bypass the Yamaha app entirely by using Airplay or Bluetooth, but that will affect the quality of your audio. I can't comment on how well it works with a multi-room setup, because I've only got the one at present. And as with any streaming device, it's reliant on a good, stable network connection, so it's important to make sure you have that part sorted before you invest. But in pure sound-to-the-pound terms, it's cracking value, and I'm very glad I bought it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what I needed to link to my old amp This has enabled me to link my Yamaha CRX-N450D system via MusicCast to my ancient analogue hi-fi amp. Now I can stream whatever I'm playing from my study to my living room. It was easy to set up via the app and came with all I needed to connect it up. A sensible size; unobtrusive. A good buy (if you have Yamaha)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great little box This is an easy to setup and install unit. I wanted it to enable my existing Marantz MCR510 to integrate into a multi room system which it does seamlessly..
Date published: 2018-12-17
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Remarkably easy to install, works perfectly I was really impressed that the unit has its own little WiFi server so that there's no difficulty getting connected to it with the app to then set it up for the home network. I like the app, although it clearly could benefit from some improved sorting and search functions. So far, the sound is very pleasing although I've not explored it's full depths yet! The only real negative is that it does need its PSU (power supply) -- it won't work when connected to the USB power output on the back of my Yamaha amp.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to use and effective I bought this to modernise an old Denon separates hi-fi system with a CD player and an analogue tuner. It is the first wireless streamer I have bought which works exactly as it should: it connected itself to my network with no hassle, and equally easily to bluetooth sources, it has very fast operation, a straightforward controller app with no bugs so far on an Android phone, and the internet radio also works well. With my old amp and speakers, it sounds fine, (considerably better than any integrated streamer/amp combos I have tried under £500). I have already junked the old tuner and CD player. The only drawback I've encountered so far is the inability of the app to search for individual tracks in the music library on my home server (a PC running Twonky). To find one, I have to browse through an alphabetical list, a bit of a pain with a big library.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceeds expectations I’ve had the WXAD10 since October 2018 and have become really impressed with it. The sound quality for the price Is amazing even when streaming from phones and tablets. There are plenty of sources to chose from - NAS, Internet radio, Spotify etc, AirPlay and tablets and phones. Outputs consist of phono osockets and 3mm jack. The only limitations are lack of digital output and you can’t add extra streaming apps. The MusicCast app is ok and works quite happily on the latest iOS (iOS 10 or later) and android phones and tablets.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Strangely limited, when it could be great Having bought into Yamaha and their musiccast concept through owning their avrs I was keen to extend my home system to incorporate good, but non Yamaha/networked devices. I've used chromecast and logitech media server solutions previously. Each has their limitations. This should be the ultimate solution, but misses on a few points: 1. Not able to adjust volume, this must be done on the hardware you're running it through. If this is non-networked it requires the remote or manual volume adjustment. (Spotify through chromecast allows this). 2. A2DP bluetooth. I'm at a loss as to why a premium hifi device doesn't use AptX 3. No digital out. The DAC seems OK, but you may own a better one. 4. No enhancer for Spotify as is found on Yamaha avrs. For price this seems miserly. 5. Spotify equaliser seems disabled when used through musiccast (this may be the case in chromecast too, I haven't checked) 6. No gapless play. Really? So, not bad per se, but could be significantly better, especially for the money when Chromecast can handle hi-res, gapless, allows volume control in Spotify from phone and has optical out. If you're not married to musiccast a few chromecasts and bluetooth streamers could be bought for same money. However, if sending eg LP/CD source around home is useful musiccast can do this. Chromecast can't.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great way to stream your music and internet radio This little beauty sits on top of my audiolab amplifier and instantly upgrades it to the present day. It's really easy to set up with your phone through WiFi or Bluetooth. I have it connected to my NAS and Spotify account too. You need to navigate it all through an application called musicCast on your tablet or mobile it doesn't have an application for a pc but you can still stream Spotify from there. I'm really impressed with the audio quality and there is very little lag if any between tracks. The one thing it's got me doing more is streaming internet audio only stations such as Worldwide FM which has given me with more audio entertainment. Glad I didn't go cheaper on a Chromecast audio etc I think it's priced really well at £120.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great sound quality, flexibility and ease of use Only a couple of weeks of use, but already considering another of these for my 2nd hi-fi. I've long had high quality old amps and speakers, and wanted to be able(without sacrificing quality, e.g. just using mp3) to use digital sources: Now I can, very easily with the MusicCast app on phone and ipad, play my digital collection and stream radio etc. (I've given an overall rating of 4, and VFM rating of 3 because at £123 it'd a tad pricy).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to set up. Reliable. Good sound. Been holding off for a month to make sure that I get a balanced view of this device. My CD player died a few months back. As most of my music is ripped to mp3 and m4a and copied onto my android phone and ipad, I tried relying on a chromecast audio that I had bought a year ago. Using Glider on the ipad and rocket player on my phone I found that chromecast was uneliable. I couldn't always connect and chromecast wouldn't play lossless either. I bought the yamaha WXAD10 and it's been great. Great sound quality connected into my aged nad 3020b amp. I tend to use the yamaha app on my phone but I can use airplay on the ipad (not convinced the sound is as good with airplay but it's OK and reliable). The app is stable. Tried radio steaming too. Overall would recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The final piece of my hi-fi jigsaw puzzle Really pleased with this little box. Links my digital music collection to my old but high quality hi-fi components using my home wireless network. Uses the built in Microsoft Windows Media player streaming functionality so nothing else required other than mobile phone app to manage the box. Great not to be tied to specific hardware. Selected this over other devices due to the high quality audio output provided by the quality DAC. Additional bonus of being introduced to the world of high quality internet radio.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Blown Away I have Monitor Audio Silver 300’s and have been long thinking of how I can move into the 21st century and start streaming new music and start thinking about reducing the racks of cd’s in the house. I was contemplating all sorts of network streamers priced in the many hundreds of pounds. No need. This device is astonishing and the DAC does an increible job. Even files ripped to itunes at the apple standard rate are reproduced brilliantly. I have signed up for spotify for the first time and even the free sign up streams beautifully using Airplay. The leaflet in the box of this item says you need a premium account. You don’t! The best £123 I have ever spent.
