Superb value noise cancelling headphones with a surprisingly impressive sound too, the Goldring NS1000 Expedition headphones are hard to beat.
The Goldring NS1000 Expedition headphones provide excellent noise cancellation performance in two respects. Firstly, the large, wrap-around ear cups cover your ears and physically shield them, with the closed-back design helping to prevent sound leakage. Secondly, the latest Active Noise Reduction system counters background noise from planes, trains and other sources.
Class-leading sound quality
Although primarily noise cancelling headphones, the NS1000 Expedition's sound impressive in their own right. The large drive units offer a broad frequency response for a dynamic, powerful sound quality. The high quality, tangle-free cable also plays its part in providing a highly detailed and transparent sound. Over all, they offer a very balanced sound that doesn't drone out the vocals with an aggressive bass response.
Microphone for calls
The addition of an in-line microphone and pause control enables you to take calls on your smartphone whilst wearing the headphones. The Active Noise Reduction again comes into its own here, as it makes it much easier to hear the caller - even in busy environments.
Using just a single AAA battery, the NS1000 Expedition will provide up to 40 hours of performance. Supplied with an aircraft adaptor socket, they're also ideal for long haul flights. A carry case also keeps the headphones protected from the bumps and jostles of travel when not in use.
Comfortable, practical and not least, decent sounding, the Goldring NS1000 headphones are the ideal travel companion.

I wanted noise cancelling headphones to block out background noise in the office - these headphones don't do that. It's certainly quieter, but I can still hear the things I wanted to block out which is disappointing. That said, friends who spent 3-4 times the price on Bose ones have said the same thing, so in that respect these are great value.
Switching from in-ear headphones, I'm having to turn the volume up quite a bit to achieve the same volume to my ears. It just sounds further away.
They are super comfortable; you can wear them for hours without discomfort (with/without glasses). The sound seems to be pretty well balanced (I listen to everything except metal and DNB so I don't like an overly strong bass).

For the price, I can't imagine that you could do better.
Bought them initially for my 85 year old mum to use to listen to the radio during a long stay in hospital. She wore them happily for hours on end, but wasn't using the noise cancelling function.
When she left hospital they came back to me and I used them on an 8 hour plane ride, initially to listen to some talking books on an mp3 player, then without any audio input, but just for noise cancellation. You could still hear the roar of the plane, but it's volume was dramatically reduced. Ordinarily I'd have listened to something for the whole journey just to avoid spending 8 hours listening to plane noise, but with these I really didn't have to. The supplied battery did the round trip easily & is still going strong 6 months later.
They worked fine with the plane's entertainment system, but there wasn't anything I wanted to listen to, or watch, so I was made up that they worked so well at simple noise reduction.

Good product with a few small caveats
The noise cancelling is a great feature for noisy environments and is especially good at cutting out droning noises.
The sound quality is good and the headset is very comfortable.
The cable with integrated microphone is too thin, however it is replaceable and there are some good cables that you can get to replace it which I intend to do soon.
The carry case is good but be warned, unless you turn the velcro zip baggy inside around so the zip is over the top of the headphones the zip will scratch the headphone ear covers themselves which has happened to mine in the first day.. really disappointed with this let down. it's too late for me - perhaps you'll read this in time though :)

Great sounding and comfortable
Just bought these and i would highly recommend.
I spent two days trolling and listening to phones from £20-£500
To be honest these are not far off the sound provided by phone in the £300+ bracket. The only others that may have had better detail and sound isolation were Bose QC3.
The cord is a tad thin and would recommend that you get a thicker one.
The phones look liable to breakage so keep them in the case provided!

Better than expected
Not quite ready to blow several hundred notes on hi quality phones but these are better than some I tried at twice the price, they are good (to my ears anyway)and I am pleased with my purchase

I owned the previous model to these Goldring NS1000 headphones, and that pair did the job of cutting noise on flights and sounding half way decent. They wore out after a few years of use. Then I bought two sets of these NS1000s, one for myself and one for my wife. I ran both pairs in for 48 hours before trying them. I use pro Sennheisers in my recording studio, and also own several other sets of cans including sennheiser momentums, B&Ws, Beyers etc. Anyway these sounded appalling. I couldn't believe just how bad the audio was. So I'm exchanging both pairs for more costly AKG alternatives. Many thanks to Richer Sounds for, as always, superb customer service.

Good sound for a fraction of the cost of Bose noise cancelling headphones.
I often use these headphones in sports stadium to reduce the noise of their over the top PA systems. Particularly useful with PA systems with excessive bass.

Good value and pretty good quality
Nice headphones. Noise cancelling OK but far from perfect (does seem to make music clearer when listening in public, but a fair bit of noise gets through)
They are pretty tight, but I find them reasonably comfortable (get annoying after wearing for over an hour)
