Rated 5 out of 5áby MacTheKnife Great quality without frills
This is the sort of device I like - no unnecessary frills, just great quality. Control knobs are easy to use, smooth action, position marked. Easy to connect inputs from various sources. I like the front socket for MP3 player or similar device and I am already putting this to good use. Well pleased with the sound quality.

Rated 4 out of 5áby JohnT2000 Good budget amp
I bought this as a second system and I am running Mordaunt Short M10s on it. The amp is basic, with no headphone socket or remote control. The only two features I have used is the power button, and the input selector. The sound it smooth, balanced and detailed. I like to only hear the natural sound of the speakers and the audio source (CD) so I don't use bass or treble as this artificially colours the sound making it unnatural. All you HiFi enthusiasts take note: if the amp and speakers are good enough, you should never need to use bass or treble. Talk to the guys in the shop, they'll tell you the same. This amp delivers what is required. That's it.

Rated 4 out of 5áby Wh1zzy An excellent budget amp...
This amp seems to have a very good overall sound balance with excellent clarity and is a good replacement to my older NAD amp that has finally blown it's main reservoir capacitors after serving a 20 year sentence! The tone controls on this amp do not permit very large changes in the bass and treble values and are notched at the mid-way point so it is easy to identify a neutral sounding position. There is good inrush protection on this amp so you don't get a sizable 'thump' from the speakers when switching on (the old NAD amp was rather bad at this!). It's a bare wire connection at the terminal posts - shame as I think banana plugs are a much better way of preventing unintended shorts etc. Would have preferred a detachable power cord (AM10 and higher have this) but otherwise cannot grumble - considering we paid a similar amount for an entry level NAD amp 20 years ago I think this is something of a bargain...

Rated 3 out of 5áby bovinelifeagain Unit hums - what is happening to Cambridge Audio quality control?
Great budget amp, but like a couple of other reviewers, the thing hums - badly. Not the signal, but the unit itself, and it's audible if you like quiet music! Now I know it's a budget amp - but the only thing wrong was the actual humming. And I had to buy a different amp instead and pay ú70 extra. A real shame.

Rated 4 out of 5áby CambridgeMan1 Great value for money enrty amp
Based on numerous favourable reviews I originally bought a Denon PM520 as a replacement for my a (very) old Cambridge Audio A1 but I was very disappointed. Fortunately, thanks to the fantastic service of Richer Sounds I was able to exchange the PM520 for this Cambridge Audio AM5 which to me is a far superior sound experience. To my ear, the Cambridge offers excellent clarity and detail, which provides an involving and enjoyable listening experience. I use this amp with an old Philips CD player, Denon tuner, and standard computer line output for MP3s, with wall-mounted Tannoy speakers.
