Rated 4 out of 5áby CambridgeMan1 Great value for money enrty amp
Based on numerous favourable reviews I originally bought a Denon PM520 as a replacement for my a (very) old Cambridge Audio A1 but I was very disappointed. Fortunately, thanks to the fantastic service of Richer Sounds I was able to exchange the PM520 for this Cambridge Audio AM5 which to me is a far superior sound experience. To my ear, the Cambridge offers excellent clarity and detail, which provides an involving and enjoyable listening experience. I use this amp with an old Philips CD player, Denon tuner, and standard computer line output for MP3s, with wall-mounted Tannoy speakers.

Rated 1 out of 5áby EFord fundamental design fault - not worth paying even ú120 for
This amplifier has a very audible mains hum. This is a very perceptible, continual noise even when you are playing no music.
We exchanged our unit at Richer Sounds for another one, but that one had the same problem. It made no difference whereabouts in the house the unit was plugged in, or whether the speakers were connected; the noise is from the unit itself.
It does seem that there must be a design fault in the Cambridge Topaz AM5 amplifier.

Small and tidy ..record deck stands nicely on the top. Produces a great sound with straight forward bass and treble knobs. All we need. Very good.

Rated 5 out of 5áby BigBird Knock-out little amp (with a big sound)!
Originally intended as a ?stop-gap?, after retiring an old/ailing amp - so freely admit got this without even reviewing it first. However, is a very pleasant surprise - punches way above its weight and price-bracket; energetic/punchy but is also balanced and articulate. Easily drives/manages my floor-standers and presents a very distinct, clear and stable sound-stage. I may well end-up keeping for a while.
As usual with CA gear, case and controls very solidly made. Am convinced CA stuff - especially amps - offer a sound quality that can?t be matched at (even twice) the same price. Confirm only available in black. Lack of remote no hardship. It does take banana-plugs - capped with those stupid Euro-reg bungs, but you can easily pull them out with your finger nails.
QED Silver Anniversary XT works very well with this amp, distinctly resolves more detail than QED Original (also a good cable). Don?t bother with the QED crimped plugs - just get standard (screw-grip) banana-plugs.

Rated 5 out of 5áby DrFell Cambridge Audio Giant Killer
I bought this amplifier to use whilst my Cyrus 8vs2 is being serviced. I hooked it up to a Cyrus CDi and PSX-R and was stunned at how good it sounded. Great dynamics and a very decent soundstage, the Cambridge Audio sounds like an amplifier costing twice as much. Great value for money, this little giant killer offers a perfect step into the world of hifi. Buy with confidence.

Rated 5 out of 5áby MadJackMcMad Immense sound quality
I paired this unit with a pair of Cambridge SX-50 speakers and the sound quality is immense, I haven't turned the volume past half way and it's deafening with no loss of quality, for a budget amp I can't fault it.
