"A fantastic budget stereo amp. Delivers superb sound quality for your analogue and digital music."What Hi-Fi Sound & Vision magazine. Group test winner and 5-Star review, tested at £300.
Serious sound quality
Just like its predecessor, the PM6004, the Marantz PM6005 puts sound quality first. Usually the preserve of more expensive amplifiers, the PM6005 benefits from separate pre and power amp sections, constructed from discrete components rather than the more usual integrated circuits. This gives the PM6005 an uncommon clarity and level of detail. Its toroidal power supply and large capacitors keep a tight control on speakers and gives music a generous sense of scale; far larger than you might expect from a 45W amplifier.
New to the PM6005 is a built-in DAC (Digital to Analogue Convertor). By fitting a high quality Cirrus Logic 24 bit/192 kHz DAC, a whole new level of flexibility is possilble. With a choice of coaxial and optical inputs you can connect digital sources such as CD, DVD, Blu-ray players, TVs and even games consoles, and you're likely to improve their sound quality, thanks to the Marantz's superior processing power. The digital part of the amplifier is also fully shielded, ensuring no electrical interference with the other parts of the amplifier.
Regarding analogue inputs, the PM6005 is comprehensively equipped. An MM (Moving Magnet) phono stage is built-in for use with a turntable. There are also four line level inputs and a recording outlet. Two sets of speaker outputs are included, as is a headphone socket. Bass and treble controls are standard and can be bypassed by the Source Direct control for slightly improved sound quality.
With inputs for analogue and digital, the Marantz PM6005 is a centre of excellence for your entire system.

One of the best budget amplifiers on the market
I would like to thank Callum an Conor from Chiswick store for everything.
After contacting 3 Richer Sounds stores in London they were the only ones that agreed to help. Really impressed by their extremely professional attitude and understanding!
The Marantz has a very balanced and refined sound. It has a decently warm sound for a transistor amp. Not as warm as a tube amp, but quite pleasing for a transistor amp. The mids are not very forward but they are quite smooth and clear. Instrument separation is decent - much better than most transistor amps. It is a really easy match with most speakers. It sounds well both with Tannoy Mercury 7.4 and Dali Zensor 7. The Dali is not an easy match! It tends to sound bright with many budget amps and has sharp highs when not matched properly. The DAC is also very good - better than many old CD players.
I am very grateful to Marantz and especially Tannoy for selling great sound,
not just fancy look and useless extras as many others do.

Another Marantz amp in my home. This one now taking up residency alongside a recent Richer Sounds purchase of a Pioneer record deck. Terrific sound and the amp looks great, solid build and another excellent Richer Sounds price.

I bought the Marantz PM6005 to replace my aging Cambridge Audio Topaz AM5. Its so much better, with an easy to use remote I don'teven need to make the three steps to turn the volume up. The sound is clear and powerful, only now I think I may have to upgrade my speakers!

An excellent amp
This Marantz amp is virtually identical to my previous Marantz one - except it is several years newer and incorporates the improvements in technology that have been developed.
The sound quality is excellen, the optical audio input makes connection to new TVs very simple and small improvements in the remote control just add to the overall enjoyment.

Excellent value amplifier
I have always previously bought second hand vintage Marantz amps, thinking they would be a better match for my Technics turntable. I think that this amp offers a small improvement on my turntable but the improvement for my cd player and pc sound connected to the amp's dac via optical cable is massive. It is the equivalent of HDTV compared to SDTV. My beloved vinyl is currently in the shadows a bit as I go back and listen to my CD collection and downloads/youtube. Love this amp. Very quickly delivered by the excellent Richer Sounds. Thanks.

Fantastic sound, looks great too
I purchased this last week to replace a sound bar (Yamaha YSP2500). For music the 2500 just did not cut it. I paired it with Zensor 1s and WOW, great sound. I added a Chrome-cast Audio to the digital input, and Tidal HIFI is amazing.
Only small issue was at first I though the sound was terrible and duly rang RS for a return. Whilst disconnecting it I realised I had wired the speakers wrong (schoolboy error) however to be fair, the terminal layout is a little misleading (red, black, black, red - should be red black red back). Anyway, after wiring it correctly it suddenly sprang to life.

Great starter for getting into Hi Fi sound
Bought to replace my Marantz PM66SE. Partly for nostalgic reasons but also to ensure I could still listen to decent quality music in my gym. Paired with a CD 67 SE and Mission floor standers.
The sound is brighter than the PM 66SE. That may be because the PM6005 is digging out more detail, or it may be that I still need to run it in.
Good value if you still listen to vinyl occasionally. The quality with vinyl is actually better than I recall but much depends on the quality of the original recording. Grace Jones' Night Clubbing album is one of the best produced records ever. My old Deep Purple albums seem fuzzy by comparison.
No doubt there are better amps, but for the price the PM6005 is hard to fault.
Richer Sounds are fantastic value as ever. Been using them since the 1990s and wouldn't go anywhere else.
