"A fantastic budget stereo amp. Delivers superb sound quality for your analogue and digital music."What Hi-Fi Sound & Vision magazine. Group test winner and 5-Star review, tested at £300.

Serious sound quality

Just like its predecessor, the PM6004, the Marantz PM6005 puts sound quality first. Usually the preserve of more expensive amplifiers, the PM6005 benefits from separate pre and power amp sections, constructed from discrete components rather than the more usual integrated circuits. This gives the PM6005 an uncommon clarity and level of detail. Its toroidal power supply and large capacitors keep a tight control on speakers and gives music a generous sense of scale; far larger than you might expect from a 45W amplifier.

Digital inputs
New to the PM6005 is a built-in DAC (Digital to Analogue Convertor). By fitting a high quality Cirrus Logic 24 bit/192 kHz DAC, a whole new level of flexibility is possilble. With a choice of coaxial and optical inputs you can connect digital sources such as CD, DVD, Blu-ray players, TVs and even games consoles, and you're likely to improve their sound quality, thanks to the Marantz's superior processing power. The digital part of the amplifier is also fully shielded, ensuring no electrical interference with the other parts of the amplifier.

Fully featured
Regarding analogue inputs, the PM6005 is comprehensively equipped. An MM (Moving Magnet) phono stage is built-in for use with a turntable. There are also four line level inputs and a recording outlet. Two sets of speaker outputs are included, as is a headphone socket. Bass and treble controls are standard and can be bypassed by the Source Direct control for slightly improved sound quality.

With inputs for analogue and digital, the Marantz PM6005 is a centre of excellence for your entire system.

Rated 4.7 out of 5áby 80 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5áby Replacement for an old amp I bought this to replace my old Marantz PM350 amp I bought as a student in 1980. The sound quality is excellent producing a rich deep sound. I'm very happy with my purchase. Hopefully, it will last as long as the old one. 17 April 2016
Rated 5 out of 5áby Excellent at this price Bought as a second system in my lounge, I had a really good deal combining this with some Dali Zensor 1's. I had read many good reviews about this amp and I agree with them, this is a great quality amp at this price point. It has all the power I could want for my 14 feet by 12 feet lounge. I use it mainly with a turntable for my vinyl but I have also connected it to my tv with optical cable, it sound much better than my old sound bar in conjunction with the Dali's. The remote is a bonus allowing quick change to source input and also controlling volume. Overall I would recommend this amp, I had a great deal of about ú60 off the standalone price by buying it in a package but I would have been happy paying the ú299 it originally cost. 09 April 2016
Rated 5 out of 5áby Wonderful value ! Well constructed, all controls have good feel. Remote operates volume, source, source direct and mute functions. When in operation the amplifier remains cool. Although only rated at 45 Watts/channel it handles transients very well and is capable of going extremely loud when required. Sound stage is well developed in both horizontal and vertical planes. To my senior citizen ears the sound produced by the amplifier is neither too bright or too rich. Instruments seem to be produced realistically including piano. The Marantz PM6005 replaces my Audiolab 8000A and represents excellent value for money and sonic enjoyment. 28 March 2016
Rated 4 out of 5áby Great Amp So I now have the PM6004 (purchased back in 2012) and recently added the PM6005 to my collection. I auditioned a number of amplifiers from the Cambridge Audio 651a, the Yamaha AS501 and this. Out of all of them the two which sounded the best with my speakers KEF R100s were the Yamaha AS501 and the Marantz. The Yamaha produced incredible sound stage and presence for songs which operated in the mid and high range but lacked a little in the low end. The Marantz gave a more balanced musical tone over the Yamaha, but lacked a little in the mid range. Am I confident that I made the right decision ? Its hard to say as Yamaha and Marantz were so close !! I would strongly recommend people audition their amps (with the speakers they are going to use) before purchasing. The guys at the Cheltenham branch were excellent. I have only given this 4 stars out of 5 because it does not have a dedicated sub out socket. 26 March 2016
Rated 4 out of 5áby Good amp A nice amp but realised that after my av amp that I missed DLNA and network connection and having a app 23 March 2016
Rated 5 out of 5áby This amp has everything you need This amp is a perfect match for my turntable. The analogue side gives my albums a nice warm, rich sound 05 March 2016
Rated 5 out of 5áby Progress Computers have improved beyond recognition in the past thirty years. Amplifiers though still look pretty similar and have similar specs with regard to such things as output. And so, like so many Richer customers, I bought a new machine not expecting a huge difference and was blown away by the result. The Marantz PM6005 was bought to replace a Sony amp dating to about 1980 to drive small speakers in our study. The whole gamut of the sound was transformed by the introduction of this amp - indeed, it sounds as good as our main amp, an Audiolab, now about twenty years old. So, a terrific bargain. And for about a fiver, we got it delivered in less than twenty-four hours. The reviews on the website and (especially) the blogs from Richer staff helped enormously in choosing what to go for. Altogether a very happy experience overall. 11 February 2016
Rated 5 out of 5áby Brilliant sound quality The Marantz PM6005 is a dynamic sounding amp, giving a clear, crisp sound and delivering on both style and substance. would highly recommend this amp - the perfect accompaniment to the CD6005. 20 January 2016
