"A fantastic budget stereo amp. Delivers superb sound quality for your analogue and digital music." What Hi-Fi Sound & Vision magazine. Group test winner and 5-Star review, tested at £300.

SERIOUS SOUND QUALITY

Just like its predecessor, the PM6004, the Marantz PM6005 puts sound quality first. Usually the preserve of much more expensive amplifiers, the PM6005 benefits from separate pre and power amp sections, constructed from discrete components rather than the more usual ICs (Integrated Circuits). This gives the PM6005 an uncommon clarity and level of detail. As before, the PM6005 benefits from an impressive Toroidal power supply. Along with the large capacitors, this helps keep a tight control on speakers and gives music a generous sense of scale; far larger in fact, than you might expect from an amplifier rated at 45 watts.

NOW WITH DIGITAL INPUTS

New to the PM6005 is a built-in DAC (Digital to Analogue Convertor). By fitting a high quality Cirrus Logic 24 bit/192 kHz DAC to the amp, a whole new level of flexibility is opened up. With a choice of coaxial and optical inputs you can connect up many digital sources such as CD, DVD, Blu-ray players, TVs and even games consoles. By using the digital connection you're likely to gain a much better sound quality, due to the Marantz's superior processing power. As you'd expect from Marantz, the digital part of the amplifier is fully shielded by an extra metal housing, ensuring no electrical interference with the other parts of the amplifier.

FULLY FEATURED

In terms of analogue inputs, the PM6005 is comprehensively equipped. An MM (Moving Magnet) phono stage is built-in for use with a turntable. There are also four line level inputs and a recording outlet. Two sets of speaker outputs are included as is a headphone socket for personal listening. Bass and treble controls are standard and can be bypassed by the Source Direct control for slightly improved sound quality.

With inputs for analogue and digital, the Marantz PM6005 is a centre of excellence for your entire system.

Rated 4.9 out of 5 by 21 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Marvellous, quality piece of kit! So versatile with connectivity, just perfect for me. I have this nestling in my "Elmob" TV cabinet and I'm able to run my TV, DVD/CD player, Turntable(see below) and Laptop mp3s seamlessly through the numerous digital inputs. The sound quality in my wood floor apartment is just right. Plenty of lovely bass for my soul and funk collection, not overwhelming, but just sounds classy. Good treble tone too. The volume control has gone no higher than 60% but there is plenty more left in the tank if required. There is also connectivity for a recorder too if I could think of a use for it. I love my vinyl and needed the amp for a turntable, having re-vamped my 12 inchers! This amp fits the bill for that too, although turns out my turntable has a built-in pre-amp, in which case it simply needed plugging into one of the digital inputs and NOT the phono inputs. I thoroughly recommend the PM6005 as it meets my high audio standards. 25 September 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Does the business for me I'm new to HiFi bits and bobs. This setup, recommended by Kelvin in the Liverpool store, really gives me a tremendous sound environment for a reasonable budget. I would certainly recommend, without hesitation, all of the components as a forming a good starter entry level system 21 September 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent value Great sound especially when teamed with the Marantz turntable, brings back the real sounds of vinyl 16 September 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great budget amp I needed something to hook up to my PC via my Asus Xonar DX soundcard, after reading reviews on this amp i decided to go for this as it has a built in DAC and can connect via optical output..i got the package advertised on richer sounds which came with the Dali Zensor 1 speakers and after a year with using logitech Z506 5.1 setup i was amazed at the difference in sound..the amp is warm sounding, nice bass, mids and highs.. separation is awesome..although this is classed as a buget amp i thoroughly recommend it, for the price it wont disappoint..i bought it from the Milton Keynes branch and Adam was very informative and wasnt pushy when i asked for cable, stands and an optical lead..great store and great people, i have found a new hobby and i know where im shopping in the future. 06 September 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great for the money Been a while since i updated my hi-fi so i decided to set myself a budget, setting out to get some decent equipment which i thought would be value for money. This amplifier certainly delivers on that score. The sound it delivers is excellent,.Plenty of punch but still well rounded. I listen to a lot of jazz / folk /classical music, they all sound good with this amp, especially good for jazz imo. This amplifier has pretty much all the connectivity your going to need in the future so no worries about building a system around it. 01 September 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good solid amplifier and easy to fit This was a 1 for 1 replacement of an earlier excellent Marantz model that failed after 9 years. I find it difficult to isolate the properties of an amplifier from the equipment it serves but all seems excellent at the moment. The only thing is that it seems to take some time to kick in after it is switched it on. 01 September 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by good but... Not bad for the money. Not as good as my 20 year old mission Cyrus that unfortunately just died on me. Negatives...mid range can get a little 'muddy' with a lack of definition of individual instruments. Also, the soundstage seems a little compressed. It is also better with digital than the turntable analogue input. With some recordings treble can sound a little harsh. Positives...well built, feels like a good quality product, nice bass, button to bypass tone controls if you want to, nice design, and a good price. A decent amplifier for the price. I'm coming off the back of owning the mission amp so I'm perhaps being quite critical. It is a good product with a nice sound. Good value for money. 30 August 2014
