Now with 7.1 channels and HD decoding, the Sony STRDH520 is an impressive entry level AV receiver.

Take a look at the spec and you might find it hard to believe this is entry level. Having made the step up from 5.1 to 7.1, the STRDH520 gives the option of a more enveloping sound stage through the addition of side speakers. There's also the addition of decoding for HD formats, thanks to Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD decoders. This means that, for the first time on a 500-series AV receiver, you can now get the full sound potential from Blu-ray. Yet, the Sony STRDH520 hasn't forgotten about your other sources, either. With Dolby ProLogic IIz you can make the most of TV broadcasts, with a convincing surround sound effect.

In terms of connections, the budget Sony, once again, confounds expectations. Four HDMI inputs handle even pretty serious home cinema set-ups and they're also 3D compatible and ARC (Audio Return Channel) compliant. ARC means that you can connect to your TV with just a single HDMI lead and push the video signal to your TV from the receiver whilst also receiving the TV's sound back into the receiver. For your older sources, there are component, composite, optical, coaxial and RCA phono connections - everything you'd expect from a more expensive AV receiver, in fact.

Despite having made the switch to 7.1 channels, the STRDH820 has kept its 100 watts per channel. This means that, even in larger rooms, there's enough grunt to power along the most explosive of sound tracks. Compared to your TV speakers, you'll find a massively more spacious sound with previously unheard detail and far deeper bass response.

Although technically advanced, setting up requires only a minimum of time. BRAVIA Sync links to other Sony BRAVIA products via the HDMI to give exceptional ease of use. Digital Cinema Auto Calibration (DCAC) optimises the settings to your room's requirements - at the touch of a button. Other great features with this Sony AV receiver include an RDS tuner radio, Analogue audio Direct switch and Night Mode listening.

Switch to a separate AV system and hear what you've been missing out on. We promise you're in for an eye-opening experience!
