"This diminutive player delivers superb picture and sound represents incredible value for money."
It might be small and cute but the Sony BDP-S350 pulls no punches when it comes to delivering first-rate picture and sound quality. The BDPS350 scores over its predecessors in offering Profile 2.0 compatibility. This can be obtained by using the built-in Ethernet port - another feature that wasn't always standard on earlier players.
As you'd expect from a new generation Blu-ray player, the BDPS350 has wide ranging compatibility - including most types of DVD discs. The v1.3 HDMI socket allows the new Sony Blu-ray to output 7.1 Channel HD audio to a suitable home cinema receiver. If you bought an early Blu-ray or HD-DVD player you'll also be pleased to hear that Sony has worked hard on start up times. It now takes just six seconds to begin enjoying your disc - previous machines would leave you enough time to make a coffee! Also improved is the graphic interface system. The new XcrossMediaBar will be familiar to Play Station 3 owners and makes for an intuitive, functional interface.
As with other BD players, the BDP-S350 is also compatible with standard DVD discs. Combined with the 1080p upsampling, this allows you to view your existing DVDs at a level of resolution higher than ever before.
Which ever way you look at it, the Sony BDP-S350 is one impressive machine. Blu-ray has come of age!
Also available, Sony BDPS360 from £139.95.
