"As complete a package as you're likely to see for under £1000, these are special." What Hi-Fi Sound and Vision magazine.
As What Hi-Fi found, the Tannoy Revolution DC6T speakers are pretty special and more than worthy of their 5-star review. It's the attention to detail that sets these speakers apart and this begins with the cabinet design. With a slim footprint, the DC6T not only takes up less room than rivals but also images as well as many smaller speakers - often a downside with larger speakers. The cabinet itself also features extensive internal bracing for improved rigidity, helping improve the realism of sound still further. For added stability, a base plinth is also supplied.
Making use of Tannoy's famous Dual Concentric drive units, the DC6T sounds exceptionally open and spacious. By placing the tweeter within the throat of the main woofer, the DC6T gives a single point source for critical high and mid-range frequencies. The result is a consistency and realism of vocals that you'd be hard pushed to find from many rivals. The tweeter itself is a titanium dome unit that gives exceptional detail without sounding brash or harsh. The woofers use conventional pulp paper with long throw surrounds for effortless power. With a secondary woofer, the DC6T is also quite capable as a home cinema or high power stereo speaker.
Getting back to that attention to detail and it's the bits you can't see that make this speaker really special. Silver-plated cable and chromed cable connections offer a long-lasting and low resistance connection, right up to the drive units. The crossover features low loss, laminated inductors and audiophile grade polypropylene capacitors. This quality of componentry would usually be reserved for much more expensive speakers and helps give the Tannoy's their open and transparent sound.
Finished in a smart 'Espresso' veneer, that contrasts well with the silver drive units, the DC6T's look every bit as smart and refined as their musical presentation.
For a sub-£1000 speaker, you'll struggle to do better!
