All signals also benefit from 100Hz technology. 100Hz technology gives a more stable picture with less flicker and reduced motion blur. In addition to 100Hz technology this Panasonic freesat plasma also offers 600Hz Sub field drive. Although different from 100Hz technology in not offering a true interpolation between frames, the 600Hz technology works by pulsing each frame 12 times, thereby upgrading the standard 50Hz signal to an effective 600Hz one. Whatever the signal, though, you can rest assured that the TXP42G10 offers a class-leading picture quality with incredible realism.
As ever, we'd always recommend a separate home cinema system for the best sound quality, although the built-in system offers enhancements over previous models. V-Audio Surround gives a spacious sound based on actual room measurement from the onboard digital signal processor. Combined with the invisible speakers, it gives a crisp, well-detailed sound quality. The addition of an optical digital output also allows you to maximise the potential of freesat HD sound by outputting the signal into your home cinema system.
In this age of HD, it's good to see that the latest Panasonic plasma TV has 3 HDMI sockets - ideal for a PS3, Blu-ray player and upscaling DVD. One of these is side-mounted making it ideal for an occasionally connected device such as a games console. In addition to this, twin SCART sockets, VGA (for a PC) and component inputs are on hand for analogue sources. A slightly more unusual fitment, but still welcome nonetheless is a SD card reader. This easily accessible slot is perfect for showing pictures taken on your digital camera. The HDMI VIERA link has been upgraded to allow the connection of Panasonic LUMIX digital cameras. Once connected you can use the TV's remote control to playback stored images on the camera.
