"It might not have the frills, but it certainly delivers the thrills - in performance per pound terms, you can't do better." What Hi-Fi Sound & Vision magazine, tested at £453.

Experience the thrill of a large plasma screen for less, with the Panasonic TXP50X50.

THE LATEST G15 DISPLAY WITH TOUGH PANEL

Panasonic have long been renowned for the quality of their plasma TV sets and, with the TXP50X50 it's not hard to see why. The latest G15 panel gives an exceptionally natural picture quality. With a contrast ratio of 3,500,000:1, this TV gives true, deep blacks and a sense of realism that's missing from many similarly priced rivals. With its 600Hz Sub-field Drive technology, the TXP50X50 creates super-smooth images, whatever the resolution. Always popular with gamers for their fast response times, the TXP50X50 builds on its plasma strength by offering a Game Mode setting for even faster response.

CRISP, CLEAN SOUND

As TVs become ever thinner, so the sound quality suffers. As ever, we'd recommend a soundbar or home cinema system, connected by the standard digital output. Should you use the onboard audio system, V-Audio Surround and 2 x 10 watt speakers are on hand to deliver crisp sound quality. There's also a handy headphone socket for private listening.

FREEVIEW HD, USB AND MORE

When it comes to connecting up, the TXP50X50 has all the basics you need for digital TV. As well as the standard Freeview tuner, there's a Freeview HD tuner built-in, making it ideal for getting the best possible pictures from TV. There's also a wide range of connections. Twin HDMI sockets let you connect a Blu-ray player and games console. With a video enabled USB port, you can hook up your media player and view a wide range of files, including many video files. There's also a SD card slot - perfect for showing your digital photographs straight onto TV. SCART and component inputs are provided for older sources such as DVD.

For a large screen TV that puts quality before gimmicks, the Panasonic TXP50X50 makes a discerning choice.
