Featuring Samsung's Smart Hub TV and LED backlighting, the Samsung UE40ES5500 is a step up from the average TV.

LED BACKLIGHTING AND CLEAR RATE MOTION 100 FOR A VIVID PICTURE QUALITY

Samsung were one of the first manufacturers to offer LED backlight screens and are still amongst the most experienced. Key advantages to LED screens are slimmer depth and higher contrast. It can come as little surprise, then, to find the UE40ES5500 has one of the best pictures in its class. Samsung has combined a number of technologies to make the UE40ES5500 a class leader. In addition to the LED screen is Samsung's Wide Colour Enhancer Plus engine. This unique Samsung system offers far more natural and convincing colours by strengthening the red, green and blues. Also standard is Clear Rate Motion 100. Although this isn't the same as conventional 100Hz processing, it does claim to offer gains in motion clarity through measuring the chipset, TV panel and backlight. The UE40ES5500 certainly offers smooth motion, free from the blur of some of its 50Hz rivals.

CRISP AND CLEAR SOUND QUALITY

With a TV of this quality we'd always recommend a soundbar or separate AV system to get the best from it. If this isn't possible, though, you'll find the onboard sound surprisingly good for such a thin TV with little apparent space for the speakers. SRS TheatreSound HD gives a well-balanced sound that's surprisingly weighty for a TV but also clear, too. With a 2 x 10 Watt amplifier on board there's also enough power for larger rooms.

SMART TV FEATURING WEB BROWSER AND USB RECORDING

In addition to its enhanced picture quality, the Samsung UE40ES5500 also benefits from Samsung's Smart TV. This brings all the control and search options together in one central hub. Standard on this Smart TV are Samsung Apps which gives you access to popular sites such as YouTube and Facebook. There's also a full web browser, making this TV perfect for a bit of sofa-surfing. Allshare, powered by DLNA, lets you connect the TV up to your home network via Ethernet or optional Wi-Fi dongle. From here you can stream content from your PC or laptop, onto the big screen. Connect Share Movie teams up with the USB sockets to offer film, music or photos to be easily transferred from your digital media device to the TV's screen, via USB socket. One of the USB sockets also offers two-way recording. Simply connect a USB-equipped hard drive and use the Electronic Program Guide to make this a very handy PVR. In addition to the twin USB sockets there are also three HDMIs - perfect for connecting up a wide range of digital sources.

Matching class-leading picture quality with Smart TV, the Samsung UE40ES5500 is hard to fault.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Our First LED TV Experience The TV and all its features are easy to set up and use. If you want to use internet browsing and other features you need a lot to type i recommend to get a wireless keyboard. The picture is very clear especially watching Full HD blu rays. Be aware the clarity of the picture always depends on the source. There is a massive difference in broadcasting upscaled programs and full HD programs. The sound is surprisingly excellent as i heard many slim line LED TVs lack in this department. But to get the full sound experience of blu-rays i would recommend external speakers. It doesn't need a lot. We opted for a 2.1 soundbar and are blown away by it. The design is just perfect. It doesn't look like a massive black box like our old LCD TV. Value for money is great as we didn't pay the full retail price. It's worth shopping around for good offers especially for this model. 28 February 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great picture and very stylish Easy to set up and works well with other equipment. Only problems so far are the lack of a facility to change the picture size for the Lovefilm app and the lack of connectivity options for PCs without HDMI outputs. For Lovefilm this means that a widescreen film displays in the squashed 4:3 format. The lack of a VGA input means that connection to the PC is limited to the Allshare facility. Nevertheless it is a bargain at the current price. 17 February 2013

Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent product, very good picture etc. Overall excellent, but awaiting software update to 1025 or above to enable us to watch ITV1 etc on BBC I Player. When will this be available? 04 January 2013
Rated 2 out of 5 by SAMSUNG UE40ES5500 Bought this TV for the internet and demand TV, which you only get BBC and ITV player as it is advertised. The internet will not play anything over the internet like demand 5, 4 od or even pictures stored online. Wish I had bought a cheaper TV and a youview box would have given me more flexibility. 17 December 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by This is a great tv, good value with excellent features I love this tv, my other tv was a Samsung LED, but I wanted a Smart tv, I picked this one as it has excellent features but not the price to go with it. I mostly use it for the I player services and have since found that, with a USB stick I can take my HDD recorder out of my system and use the series link feature to record to my stick, brilliant. A Samsung DVD next I think 01 November 2012

Rated 1 out of 5 by Software updates via USB Software updates via USB are impossible if the TV is wall mounted. Browsing the web without a wireless keyboard is time consuming and tedious.. 31 July 2012
