"We're used to Cambridge Audio being aggressive when it comes to price, but even by its standards the DacMagic XS represents truly excellent value for money" What Hi-Fi Sound & Vision magazine.

The way we listen to and the format that our music resides in has changed dramatically over the years. Long gone are the days of CD being the only way of listening to your favourite band's new album. Now you can get that same album in a plethora of formats with downloading being the preferred choice for many, with the computer becoming the sole storage and playback for your entire music collection. While being perfect for storing thousands of albums, playing them back has never been the strong suit of most PC's. Often the quality of the built-in DACs (Digital to Analogue Convertor) and headphone amplifiers leave a lot to be desired, failing to faithfully reproduce your music with the soul and character as intended by the artist. The Cambridge Audio DacMagic XS is the answer.

Don't let the miniature size of the DacMagic XS fool you, despite its compact nature it has been imbued with the same hi-fi characteristics of its bigger siblings. Cambridge Audio have managed to bring together a class leading DAC and powerful headphone amplifier to breathe new life into your digital music. Utilising a low jitter asynchronous USB connection along with support for USB Class 1 & 2 modes, DacMagic XS connects using the highest quality USB connection with the least amount of distortion. Both Mac and PC platforms are supported. Regardless of whether your music consists of MP3 files or high definition 24-bit/192kHz FLAC files, the DacMagic XS has all varieties covered. You can be assured that as your music library evolves over time, the DacMagic XS will have you covered.

Along with the accomplished DAC, the DacMagic XS is paired with a high quality headphone amplifier. Capable of providing up to 10 times more power than the headphone output found on most PC's and laptops. An on board analogue volume control provides fine control over this power. Both combine to reproduce your music as faithfully as possible, providing a dynamic range and audio fidelity that is a league above what is possible on most PC's and laptops.

Crafted using high quality brushed aluminium, the DacMagic XS is both lightweight and strong. Its streamline design combined with its small size and weight ensures that it's just as suited for music on the go as it is for use at home. With power being provided by the USB connection, there's no need for batteries or an external power supply. As an elegant addition, the built-in LED changes colour corresponding to the input sample rate.

A small package with a performance that defies its dimensions, the Cambridge Audio DacMagic XS has all your digital music needs covered, on the road or at home.

Rated 4.9 out of 5áby 9 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5áby Surprised me with the difference! Like one of the other reviewers, I have a set of AKG K451s, which I primarily use for Spotify Premium streaming. I found that the sound I was getting out of them was a bit, well, boring, so I wasn't using them much. However, I saw this for ú50 on the Boxing Day 2014 sales and thought I'd give it a try. The difference is staggering! I'd seriously compare it to going from my nasty free in ear buds to the K451s. It is hard to explain the difference that it made, but it has just made the output much cleaner. Everything is clearly distinguished, whereas everything else I tried (old iPod touch, laptop, PC, Nexus 4 & 7) seem rather muddy in comparison. Bass has a bit more punch, without being overpowering. Anyway, now once I start listening I don't want to stop. As my first 'proper' DAC, it's hard to imagine how a more expensive one could be any better! One shame is that it doesn't work by default with Android 5, although that is no fault of CA. It is detected, just no audio is routed out. 11 January 2015

Rated 5 out of 5áby Impressive delivery in a cheap unit. Lovely robust metal finish, detailed weighty sound, easy to use. This is an incredibly impressive product for the money. More than capable of feeding a big system, and made a huge difference to the sound quality from my laptop and android phone. Night and day change when listening to CDs/FLACs and even high quality Spotify streams. 25 July 2014
Rated 5 out of 5áby Great USB DAC This is my first DAC, and having read several reviews, decided to give it a go. The sound is excellent and very revealing and appears transparent. I'm using Spotify Premium and streaming in high quality from my laptop to main stereo system. The quality is incredible and it's the best I've heard my hifi. However, it's a bit confusing to set up. I installed the latest driver (1.67) so I could use it in Class 2 mode (there are 2 classes of USB mode and you need Class 2 to play higher quality files). I am using Vista. On Class 2 mode on some loud passages of vocals and trumpets for example, I experienced quite a harsh sound, this may partly be due to the recording and my hifi system. I emailed Cambridge Audio and was told that for Spotify I should be using the latest driver (which I am) but in Windows sound settings I should change settings to 'CD Quality' 16 Bit 44.1Khz. Having done this, there is a much smoother sound and the harshness has subsided. Great DAC! 16 January 2014
Rated 5 out of 5áby This is a transformative piece of tech I can recommend the DacMagic XS 100%. This is not any marginal improvement but a total transformation in sound. Music played through Spotify premium + dacmagicXS sounds better to me than from my Cambridge Audio CD5 player. If you listen to music from your PC/laptop you would be hard pressed to spend ú100 better. 08 January 2014
Rated 5 out of 5áby Fantastic This match box size device has changed the quality of sound coming from my laptop music files. It is super. 14 December 2013
Rated 4 out of 5áby Choose this over the dragonfly! I would choose this over the dragonfly, if you want to hear a difference in sound quality with your pc/mac..makes the sound much more detailed, sounding a lot more like a cd player with a dac chip than the dragonfly does! 08 December 2013
Rated 5 out of 5áby DacMagic XS is fantastic this dac is the 1st one i have ever used and let me tell you its amazing and for 100 quid you cant go wrong. im using it as part of my hifi kit and right away there was a noticeable difference in my music it sounded 100% better. please note that you need to download a usb driver from Cambridge audio's web site it only takes to min after that just plug and play. 22 November 2013
