Speaker legends don't get much bigger than the Wharfedale Diamond 9.0.

It's hard to believe that the original Wharfedale Diamond is now past its thirtieth birthday. All those decades ago, it was the Diamond speaker that proved, for the first time, that excellent quality sound could be achieved from a small, budget speaker. Since then there have been dozens of imitators, but the Diamonds remain amongst the best available.

The cabinet isn't just compact, it's also very solid. This combination gives the Diamonds an extremely accurate sound quality as the cabinet doesn't flex or vibrate like larger, less well made speakers. Equally impressive are the drive units. A soft dome tweeter gives the clarity and smoothness of sound you'd expect from a much more expensive speaker whilst the woofer cone uses a carbon fibre type weave to offer extremely taut and responsive bass. With a front port, these bass reflex speakers are punchier than you might expect and in no way could they ever be described as tinny. Over all, they may be small but the sound is grown-up, with excellent staging, realism and surprisingly powerful.

It's not just the major aspects of the design that Wharfedale have got right, it's the details, too. Proper 4mm banana sockets will accept thick cable and offer the best type of connection. Threaded sockets at the rear make for secure and easy bracket attachment.

At £100 these speakers were clearly market leaders. Now we're offering them at this bargain price, the Diamond 9.0 speakers are a gem of a deal!

Rated 4.7 out of 5áby 55 reviewers.
Rated 4 out of 5áby Big sound sound much larger than they are when positioned carefully (away from wall) Richer sounds provide excellent customer service 26 December 2014
Rated 3 out of 5áby Ok for a budget speaker. I bought these as the main set of speakers for my audio set up. Even though the manufacturers state they are supposed to have a very good handling level the sound quality just isnt there. They are really small cabs which for me just didnt deliver the final sound. They were cheap though..very cheap...but if you are into your audio they are very much a secondary set and not your main cabs. Even though they were not pushed too hard one of mine died after 13 no warranty cover either. Ideal for a small bedroom but nothing more. Im 48 years old, had my first hifi separate system at 13 and this is the first speaker to ever fail on me....and my speakers had some real volume abuse in the 80s. Perhaps I had a bad one but the experience has put me off these and Wharfdale products sorry. 24 November 2014
Rated 5 out of 5áby Small is beautiful Having rescued my Nikko amp from the loft I wanted to pair with a compact pair of speakers. Having read the reviews I opted for these, temped also by the ú50 price tag. They are smaller than I had expected, but once connected i was truly surprised by the sound quality. Good bass, not overbearing fine for rock and bright high notes which sounded great in a violin concerto. I would definitely recommend these anyone wanting a small quality pair of speakers. 31 October 2014
Rated 5 out of 5áby Quality for a good price Very good speakers, excellent as a surround for your home system. Good value for money 30 October 2014
Rated 5 out of 5áby Superbly musical I owned a pair of the original diamond 's more years ago than i care to remember so was intrested to find out if they still lived up to the title of "legend".In one word yes they still rock however a couple of niggles, the fiirst being the poorly applied vinyl wrap and as other reviewers have mentioned the recessed speaker terminals are difficult to tighten unless you have hands the size of a child. In musical terms they have a nicely judged tonal balance plenty of bass weight given the cabinet and driver limitations and a slightly rolled off treble that wont aggravate budget ancillarys. They perform as all good hi-fi should in so much as they get your feel tapping and leave you to enjoy the music rather than listening to the equipment .At ú50 (for vip members) they're an absolute steal you wont find anything to match them without spending a good deal more. 23 October 2014
Rated 5 out of 5áby Great sound budget price very impressed with the sound coming from these little blighters. 50 quid for a speaker that sounds far more expensive (I know it was once). replaced some old tdl 3's with these and although they are not quite a ú400 floorstander sound they rock. 24 September 2014
Rated 2 out of 5áby Poor finish Only rated as fair as dirty black marks all over one cabinet and a piece of vinyl wrap lifting on the other- poor QA. 18 September 2014
Rated 4 out of 5áby Seem good - but not too sure! I just wanted some cheap add-on rear surround speakers for my YHTS-401 sound bar set up. These were cheapest in stock so were a bit of an impulse purchase. Sound output from rear channels does not seem that loud/powerful but maybe it is the way my system is set up? This is a well built quality speaker and I am very happy with the way it looks and is put together. 18 September 2014
