Speaker legends don't get much bigger than the Wharfedale Diamond 9.0.

It's hard to believe that the original Wharfedale Diamond is now past its thirtieth birthday. All those decades ago, it was the Diamond speaker that proved, for the first time, that excellent quality sound could be achieved from a small, budget speaker. Since then there have been dozens of imitators, but the Diamonds remain amongst the best available.

The cabinet isn't just compact, it's also very solid. This combination gives the Diamonds an extremely accurate sound quality as the cabinet doesn't flex or vibrate like larger, less well made speakers. Equally impressive are the drive units. A soft dome tweeter gives the clarity and smoothness of sound you'd expect from a much more expensive speaker whilst the woofer cone uses a carbon fibre type weave to offer extremely taut and responsive bass. With a front port, these bass reflex speakers are punchier than you might expect and in no way could they ever be described as tinny. Over all, they may be small but the sound is grown-up, with excellent staging, realism and surprisingly powerful.

It's not just the major aspects of the design that Wharfedale have got right, it's the details, too. Proper 4mm banana sockets will accept thick cable and offer the best type of connection. Threaded sockets at the rear make for secure and easy bracket attachment.

At £100 these speakers were clearly market leaders. Now we're offering them at this bargain price, the Diamond 9.0 speakers are a gem of a deal!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Great, powerful speakers Purchased this as part of a speaker requirement for our company boardroom. For this price, these are without doubt the best sounding speakers I have come across, and I consider myself an audiophile! One point knocked off for the design which looks a little similar to the rest in this field, but to be honest, you can't complain that much when you're paying for something that you can easily spend 4-5x more for similar sound quality. 27 August 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great sound for the price I bought these as an addition to some Dali zensors and a Yamaha amp/sub for a 5.1 setup. Really impressed with quality of sound. Solid units. And as always, first class service and delivery from richer sounds. Can't fault them! 11 August 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 Great speaker for the price Bought these for some lower level sounds in my dining room. One of the speakers was faulty(cone was buzzing at medium level) which was changed straight away. They seem to be great value for money good frequency response across the board. Would recommend as a cheap yet reasonably good setup. 08 August 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Small yet very effective little speakers I bought these speakers to play audio directly from a digital library via laptop and Tripath amplifier. Having down sized from a powerful yet dated rig, these compact speakers have proven to be an excellent choice. They produce enough volume to adequately fill my living room and the sound quality is excellent with surprising bottom end clarity. These appear to be well made and I'm satisfied with the great value for money. 06 August 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Still a good old loudspeaker Suits my set up. a successful replacement for very large floor speakers 05 August 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by Not recommended I got these speakers just over a week ago and noticed one of them couldn?t cope with ?loud? music at any volume level. I swapped the speakers over to confirm the fault and took them back to the shop. I got a second pair without any arguments but when I got home the same thing happened (one good speaker / one bad speaker). I?m now using some old Wharfedale speakers I bought to use in a surround system and the Diamond 9s have been relegated to light duties. 27 July 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by another lovely built excellent quality speaker from Wharfdale I used these speakers to upgrade my surround system. I haven't room for 7.2 so it has to be 5.1. I've matched these speakers with a pair of wharfedale valdus. The audio response from the Diamond 9th is excellent with lovely bass. 25 July 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by At this price it's a no brainier ! Bought these as I needed a small set due to the missus not wanting the newly decorated living room dominated by lots of "black ugly boxes" so after reading the reviews I finally decided on the Wharfedale Diamond 9.0 and I'm so glad I did. I wasn't really expecting much due to their size and price but I have to say they are excellent performers far more focused when the volume increases then I expected never sounding flabby or thin just basically musical. Enough about the speakers just buy them you won't regret it and if you've made it this far into the reviews you will already have your finger hovering over the purchase icon and are probably wondering if you could maybe find them cheaper elsewhere........... you can't I looked and I have to say the speed that they arrived at my door made me thankful I bought from richer sounds, just make sure you order some good quality speaker cable (it's cheap enough) and enjoy listening to your music with fresh ears they are that good. 16 July 2014
