Speaker legends don't get much bigger than the Wharfedale Diamond 9.0.

It's hard to believe that the original Wharfedale Diamond is now past its thirtieth birthday. All those decades ago, it was the Diamond speaker that proved, for the first time, that excellent quality sound could be achieved from a small, budget speaker. Since then there have been dozens of imitators, but the Diamonds remain amongst the best available.

The cabinet isn't just compact, it's also very solid. This combination gives the Diamonds an extremely accurate sound quality as the cabinet doesn't flex or vibrate like larger, less well made speakers. Equally impressive are the drive units. A soft dome tweeter gives the clarity and smoothness of sound you'd expect from a much more expensive speaker whilst the woofer cone uses a carbon fibre type weave to offer extremely taut and responsive bass. With a front port, these bass reflex speakers are punchier than you might expect and in no way could they ever be described as tinny. Over all, they may be small but the sound is grown-up, with excellent staging, realism and surprisingly powerful.

It's not just the major aspects of the design that Wharfedale have got right, it's the details, too. Proper 4mm banana sockets will accept thick cable and offer the best type of connection. Threaded sockets at the rear make for secure and easy bracket attachment.

At £100 these speakers were clearly market leaders. Now we're offering them at this bargain price, the Diamond 9.0 speakers are a gem of a deal!

Rated 4 out of 5 by Sound as good as ones twice their size in the 70's! I was really impressed with the sound quality for the price attached to my Pioneer 1980's amplifier. The size is just right and look twice as expensive as they are. I would recommend to anyone to buy for speakers in the right place on a shelf or Dresser as I have them. Plus impressed with the help and service I received from Richer Sounds of Reigate on my very first visit to buy the speakers. 27 March 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great for a small speaker. The sound quality is great for such a small and cheap product. I am using them as passive monitors (have active monitors, but wanted a passive pair for comparrison). They are a little short of really low frequencies, but that is to be expected from such a small driver. I would recommend these speakers to anyone who is on a budget and needs some small clear sound makers. I've not bought a pair of wharfdales for about 20 years. These display the same high quality that i remember. 26 March 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by So good I have installed them in our church I worked in a recording studio years ago, so am fairly critical of audio products. These speakers are very good value indeed and deliver a good sound. I bought a pair for home and was that impressed I have bought a further pair for a medieval church, where they sound very well indeed. 26 March 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Easy to live with. small form speakers I use these speakers mounted on some wall brackets with a small format denon system. A great sound from these front ported 2way speakers. They are sometimes slightly boomy on voice only / talk radio /radio four. But I have not had this issue with any type of music. They were easy to mount due to the captive nuts fixed in the rear. 25 March 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Amazing for the price! My first separates system in the early 80s included the mark 1 Diamonds, and they were simply superb then. So when I decided to upgrade the speakers on a decent micro-system in my dining room, these were the first choice. And I remain amazed that such sound can be had for this ridiculously low price! They needed a bit of running in and I have been rewarded by a lovely sweet sound but with a controlled deep base that really should not be possible from cabinets this small. The cabinets are solid and do not sound hollow when tapped, all of which contributes to the great sound. Am I easily pleased? Well, no - my main system is Linn based so my standards are very high. These are quite simply well made, high quality speakers which sound far better than they have any right to at this price. And the service from Richer Sounds? I bought online and they were superb - outstanding in fact. You will not be disappointed if you buy these. 18 March 2015
