Speaker legends don't get much bigger than the Wharfedale Diamond 9.0.

The original small hi-fi speaker

It's hard to believe that the original Wharfedale Diamond is now past its thirtieth birthday. All those decades ago, it was the Diamond speaker that proved, for the first time, that excellent quality sound could be achieved from a small, budget speaker. Since then there have been dozens of imitators, but the Diamonds remain amongst the best available.

Solid construction
The cabinet isn't just compact, it's also very solid. This combination gives the Diamonds an extremely accurate sound quality as the cabinet doesn't flex or vibrate. Equally impressive are the drive units. A soft dome tweeter gives the clarity and smoothness of sound you'd expect from a more expensive speaker, while the woofer cone uses a carbon fibre type weave to offer extremely taut and responsive bass.

Surprisingly powerful
With a front port, these bass reflex speakers are punchier than you might expect and in no way could they ever be described as tinny. Over all, they may be small but the sound is grown-up, with excellent staging, realism and surprisingly powerful.

Hi-fi connections
It's not just the major aspects of the design that Wharfedale have got right, it's the details, too. Proper 4mm banana sockets will accept thick cable and offer the best type of connection. Threaded sockets at the rear make for secure and easy bracket attachment.

At £100 these speakers were clearly market leaders. Now we're offering them at this bargain price, the Diamond 9.0 speakers are a gem of a deal!

Speaker Enclosure Type
Type of speaker enclosure. Infinite baffle cabinets are sealed and so are often less fussy about placement. Usually they do require a little more power to drive, though. Bass reflex speakers are usually more efficient than infinite baffle designs but may require more care in terms of placement. Rear port designs, in particular, usually need at least 15-30cm (6 - 12 inches) between them and the wall behind, for a balanced bass response.

Rated 5 out of 5†by very happy great speakers for the price. well constructed, great sound, including bass and not too big. Would recommend. 19 May 2016
Rated 5 out of 5†by Great budget speakers Had a pair of these now for about a year and a half and can't fault them for the price, just ordered a second pair to use them for a surround system, well worth a look. 17 May 2016
Rated 5 out of 5†by Quieter speakers We moved house and I needed something a little smaller and less powerful for my HiFi, to save disturbing the neighbours. These are working a treat. Good quality with front ports so that no sound comes out of the back and easy to install. Not expensive but well worth the money. As usual, staff in the shop were very helpful. Richer Sounds have a good range of products and very helpful and knowledgeable staff. Look out for special reductions. 15 May 2016
Rated 4 out of 5†by Good but not as good as the originals I brought these to replace some aging jbl control 1's that had problems with the cones. The Diamond 9's sound good however they can have a muddy mid range on certain types of music. The original diamonds sounded better but at the price I paid for them they are still a bargain 01 May 2016
Rated 5 out of 5†by excellent speakers for my denon dm40 these speakers are perfect for my denon dm 40 and the unit ive got them in the sound is perfect in my conservatory 29 April 2016
Rated 5 out of 5†by Small but good, excellent sound. Small but good, these speakers have an excellent sound to rival much bigger units. 21 April 2016
Rated 2 out of 5†by Spend That Little Bit More Got these along with a amp to replace a micro system in the kitchen. Muffled bass and midrange...high end isn't to bad though. And yes I did run them in. I try'd my Monitor Audio MR1's from my surround system and its like night and day for an extra £40. 17 April 2016
Rated 5 out of 5†by Just what I wanted! These little speakers work just fine and the sound is great from my hi-fi. Such a relief to be able to get rid of those huge old speakers and replace them with these which sound just as good. I'm no sound expert but I love listening to music and they're good enough for me, despite advice given to me by one of your stores that they are only good when used in conjunction with surround sound speakers/subwoofers etc. I would therefore like to add my appreciation for the Bristol store who gave me good advice, accepted my telephone order and got the speakers to me within a few days despite not having them in stock. 15 April 2016
