Pro-Ject Phono Box USB Variable (Black)
MM/MC Phono Pre Amp
£29.95
SAVE£109
The Pro-ject Phono Box USB V is a quality phono pre-amp with a difference!
Vinyl through your PC
The Pro-Ject Phono Box USB V not only caters for both MM and MC cartridges but, as the name suggests, features a USB socket and variable recording gain. So it accepts an analogue MM or MC signal from your turntable and then converts it, via an analogue to digital converter, to a digital signal that your computer understands. The variable output gain ensures that you can adjust the output to avoid distortion.
Plug and play
What makes this device especially pleasing is that you can use both your existing turntable and PC or Mac - no modifications are necessary to either. You'll also benefit over similar computer market devices in terms of sound quality. Pro-Ject is, first and foremost, a hi-fi company and you can therefore expect first-rate sound quality.
Hi-fi components throughout
A metal case shields the electronics from vibration and electromagnetic interference. Low noise integrated circuits are used and optimal channel separation is guaranteed through the use of dual-mono circuitry. Finishing touches include gold-plated RCA sockets and an outboard power supply for reduced background noise.
If you're looking to put records on to PC or Mac, then the Pro-Ject Phono Box USB V will do the job simply and to a high standard.

Very good & knowledgeable service
Bought this a few weeks ago and I found the increase to the sound quality, when playing my records though it, quite minimal but that's probably down to the fact that my Marantz PM6005 is a good amp and, I guess, already has a decent phono-amp built in. At least I can digitize my records now, with the USB out.
I had made quite a few calls to the shop, asking questions before-hand. They were very helpful and seemed to know a lot about it but my one gripe is that one of the staff definitely told me that I'd notice a difference when plugging my Brennan JB7 into the Line input of this device. I found no difference (as a more knowledgeable customer would have expected) and am not sure why I was told I would. Afterwards a staff I spoke to said there's no reason why there should be an improvement to a device passing through the Line Input.

Small box that packs a punch.
Bought this as our old pre amp had died, 9 years old , so did well. It is much smaller than the old one and the sound is fantastic, got new speakers at Christmas and now can truly hear the difference. Falling in love all over again with the vinyl. Haven't had a chance to try the link to a computer.

Excellent Addition
The small size of the unit means that it fits in unobtrusively with the other Hi-Fi units. Simple to connect up and easy to operate in analogue mode. Have only used it once so far for digital recording but again easy to set up and use. The instructions for installation of the device on a Windows 10 platform are slightly different to the included instructions - you do not have to set any parameters here. These can be set in the recording software (Audacity - 48kHz sampling rate and 16bit). Having a rotary gain control on the unit makes setting the recording level much easier compared to using the slider controls via the software (set these to 1 and use the rotary).

A good value product with two excellent functions.
Well built and flexible preamp with the bonus of direct connection to a computer. I am using it with a moving coil cartridge and I find it provides good results. The usb connection works impeccably. However, it may be of interest that it doesn't connect to iPad or iPhone with a camera connection kit but brilliant into MacBook.

Great product really well built
Was keen to start recording my vinyl. I bought this to bring my Thorens TD160 Deck equipped with SME3009 Series 2 Improved arm and Sure V15 III back to life. I have fallen in love with my records again. The playback on my limited set up is excellent. The recordings made are clear, involving and exciting. If I have one small complaint it's that the left and right phono are not quite equal in level. It's not my deck or arm setup as I've attached a signal gen to both inputs simultaneously and right channel is consistently higher in level by a couple of dB.

Excellent product
Was looking to revive my vinyl collection with a view to transferring to a digital format. My turntable had not been used for 10 years since I upgraded to an AV amp. The Project Phono Box USB V was easy to set up. Sound quality is excellent from a Project Debut II turntable and easy to record even using free software such as Audacity.
