Nothing beats the convenience of getting great sound on the go! Our massive range of portable Bluetooth speakers has something for everyone, no matter what your needs. Here are few basic things to know about portable speakers.

Portable Bluetooth speakers are without a doubt one of the most popular options when it comes to enjoying your music wherever you are. Bluetooth connectivity has played an important role in revolutionising how we listen to our music today. It allows you to wirelessly connect and stream tracks straight from your smartphone or tablet, using music services such as Spotify and Deezer or playing them from your own library. Continuous improvements in Bluetooth technology also mean that your wireless music can sound just as good as when it's played from a physical source like a vinyl record or CD.

Outdoors vs indoors

Some portable speakers available on the market are designed to be easy to move around the home, allowing you to take your music with you from room to room, but aren't designed to leave your front door. However, the majority of portable speakers are designed to soundtrack your adventures, wherever they may take you.

When it comes to being weather-ready, a speaker's ability to cope with water and dust is measured by an IP (Ingress Protection) rating. This international standard defines the levels of sealing effectiveness of electrical enclosures against intrusions by substances like dirt and water and, as a general rule, the higher the number, the more airtight your equipment is.

Most portable speakers can handle a bit of light rain, while some are able to be completely submerged in water without any adverse affects, so just be sure to check your desired speaker's stats against which environment you intend to use it in.

What is pairing?

Stereo pairingStereo pairing

Some manufacturers have built in the ability to connect two or more of their speakers together, allowing you to really rock the party. By linking two units, you'll usually get a true stereo performance, not to mention a big boost in volume. A few companies that initially established themselves as multiroom titans now have a portable speaker option that operates on its own outside the house, but once back home it easily integrates as part of the whole ecosystem.

Built-in voice assistants are now showing up on more models, allowing you hands-free help when you're able to connect to wi-fi.

What else is on offer?

As you might imagine, there is a mind-boggling number of portable speakers on the market, coming in all shapes, sizes and colours. Aside from playing your music, some have great extra features.

Many speakers have the ability to charge your phone or tablet while still playing music; a truly handy feature when you're out in the great outdoors. Most will also have a built-in microphone that will allow you to make and receive calls without having to disconnect your phone from the speaker.
