Some portable speakers available on the market are designed to be easy to move around the home, allowing you to take your music with you from room to room, but aren't designed to leave your front door. However, the majority of portable speakers are designed to soundtrack your adventures, wherever they may take you.
When it comes to being weather-ready, a speaker's ability to cope with water and dust is measured by an IP (Ingress Protection) rating. This international standard defines the levels of sealing effectiveness of electrical enclosures against intrusions by substances like dirt and water and, as a general rule, the higher the number, the more airtight your equipment is.
Most portable speakers can handle a bit of light rain, while some are able to be completely submerged in water without any adverse affects, so just be sure to check your desired speaker's stats against which environment you intend to use it in.
