Ok Battery !
Fitting was easy and the battery charged in 5 hours, but only lasted 5-6 hours usage on the radio, not 12 as stated.

Beware - useless with R1 mk2
I bought this a month ago as a replacement to my original Backpack, and I'm very disappointed.
The problem is simple: the display on the R1 mk 2 does not turn off, so it constantly drains the Backpack 3 battery, which as a result has a standby life of less than 48 hours. Very annoying, if the R1 is used for a few minutes a day only, for example in a bathroom.
The original Backpack had an isolating switch, meaning no unnecessary drain. As a result, a single charge would last five days or so, depending of course on radio use.
The website boasts the Backpack is compatible with all models of R1, but makes no mention of this specific - and crucial -lack of backwards compatibility. The user manual for the Backpack 3 chirpily refers to it being 'optimised' for the R1 mk 4, but doesn't explain why.

Jury is out...
Bought to replace a BP 1 that after ten years (and a change of cells) stopped holding charge. Unlike the BP 1, the BP 3 has no on/off switch; and neither does my R2. So the battery is under constant drain from the radio, even when not in use, and so needs more frequent charging. I hope it lasts. Maybe this is why the booklet (though not the websites) refer to the BP 3 being optimised for more recent R2 models. Perhaps these newer models have a true off setting.
