Cambridge Audio CXA61 (Limited Edition Black)
Stereo Amplifier
£699
”The CXA61 takes top honours for another year.” ’What Hi-Fi?’ 2022 award-winner.
Black Edition – limited edition finish
Limited to just 1000 models, the CXA61 Black Edition is something less run-of-mill. The sleek new style features a matte black, anodized aluminium facia with gloss black branding. As well as appealing in its own right, the CXA61 Black Edition makes the perfect partner for other black components you may have.
DAC for digital
The perfect balance of features and sound quality
Just as with its award-winning predecessors, the CXA61 puts sound quality first. The 60 watt amp delivers a smooth, yet detailed sound that’s at home with a vast expanse of music genres. A built-in ESS DAC (Digital to Analogue Convertor) means you get the best from your digital, as well as analogue sources. Thanks to standard Bluetooth, you can now stream music in top quality aptX HD. All this, plus the Lunar Grey CXA61 looks more stylish than ever.
DAC for digital
Featuring a built-in, reference standard ESS Sabre ES9010K2M DAC, the CXA61 works wonders with your digital audio and video sources. With two optical digital inputs and one coaxial, you can connect up to three digital sources, such as a games console, TV and a CD transport – the Cambridge Audio CXC makes the perfect match.
Stream wireless music via Bluetooth
Now a standard fitment, Bluetooth offers simple, wireless music streaming from your mobile, tablet or laptop. The Bluetooth receiver is compatible with aptX HD, giving the highest quality sound possible from Bluetooth, right up to 24bit/48kHz. You also get the benefit of the sound passing through the ESS Sabre DAC, meaning precise, detailed sound from all your streamed music.
Now you can enjoy USB audio, with Hi-Res sound
New to the CXA61 is an asynchronous USB input with Hi-Res handling for the best in computer audio. You can connect up to your laptop, PC or server and stream Hi-Res music, right up to studio-quality 32bit/384kHz and DSD256. As well as improving the sound over your computer’s soundcard, the asynchronous ‘direct control’ link also greatly reduces jitter, for lower distortion and more precise audio.
Analogue audio – including front socket
The Cambridge CXA61 also has four line level inputs - enough for all your analogue sources. A pre-amp output is also fitted – ideal for power amp upgrades. There's a 3.5mm front-mounted input, perfect for connecting an MP3 player or smartphone for quick and convenient playback. Other handy connections include an RCA subwoofer output, headphone socket and connections for two pairs of speakers.
Connected for installs
A wide range of control sockets make the CXA61 ideal as part of a more complex home installation. RS-232C, IR input, trigger in/out sockets and Control Bus RCA phonos mean the CXA61 is more than happy to work with a wide range home automation control systems.
Vibration resistant casing
With rigid, metal construction and low-resonance design, the casing helps shield the player from both mechanical and electrical interference, helping to improve clarity and reduce background noise. Isolating feet help adsorb vibration for a further reduction in distortion.
Don’t choose between an amp with features and sound quality. With the Cambridge Audio CXA61 Black Edition you can have it all.

Best sounding Hifi amp I’ve ever owned.
Had a chat with very knowledgeable John in the Reigate branch. He recommended this.
No regrets at all.

Wow Magical Amplifier
I bought this amp 5 days ago to replace a Yamaha 50watt DSP, which had developed a selection problem. The Cambridge has quite simply transformed my system to high end HI FI, it is so versatile and effortless no matter what type of music. Bi wiring’s a must for this amp, it keeps on surprising me time after time as I work my way through a vast collection. The Bluetooth is the best I’ve ever heard, solid base, great mid range and sweet top end. This amp has shows what my TDL retro speakers can do but the speakers have not shown what the amp can do, time to save up for new speakers lol. It’s Fantastic!

TEAC W1200 Double Cassette deck
Last week I added a double cassette deck to my new stereo system and it was just fabulous so good that it brought a tear to my eye. Way back in the early 80,s I bought a Sony HMK70and the sales man used the tune Beautiful noise by Neil Dimond to demonstrate the quality of the sound. I used the same tape as my first play on my new system and it exceeded my expectations. I am so happy that I can finally get the quality of sound that I was used to and have missed over the years and as an added bonus I can use all my saved tapes. I must also thank Stephan from Richer sounds for his expert advice and guidance in building my fantastic new system without any pressure to sell, keep up the good work and thanks. Ronnie Mac.

great kit, great service
A lovely piece of kit, enjoying getting to know it.
Very good service at Richer Sounds as usual - Bradley gave me the option of getting my previous amp repaired and no pressure to sell a new one. Excellent, most impressed.

Exactly what I needed
I picked one up today and was instantly pleased with the sound. Its made my mission floor standers come alive compared with the previous Cambridge azure 340. Much more accomplished sound in everything I've tried so far which includes aphex twin, Queens of the stoneage, lone and any of the electronic based music I've played. Service from Fraser in the Edinburgh branch has been flawless. So, more than happy with the purchase and service so I'll be back soon enough to add a sub. Keep up the good work folks.

Impressive sound from a good looking Amplifier
This amplifier has linked very well to our Sequence speakers giving a good crisp sound and some lovely bass. It connects well using Bluetooth too.
It is fairly easy to use with the remote; the symbols on the amp are quite small but it helps that they light up depending which setting is being used.

Cambridge and Kenwood - matched!
I needed to upgrade my 40 year old CD player but retain the cassette and record player. Felix advised me on how best to do this and I now have a set of matching separates.
