At the heart of this versatile pre-amp is PS Audio’s exclusive GainCell technology. This uses a unique method of volume control that doesn’t require additional components in the signal path. Hyperstream DAC for the highest resolution
Based on the ESS Sabre Hyperstream architecture, the built-in DAC decodes a wide range of file types and offers superb resolution. Whether you’re using a transport only device, such as a CD transport, or upgrading the sound from an older digital device, you’ll find that the DAC’s extended bandwidth and unique Class-A output complement the pre-amp’s sound to perfection. Smooth, expansive and with an inky dark background, the sound quality draws you into the music.
Fully balanced design – from input to output
Balanced inputs and outputs ensure studio quality connectivity and the lowest signal loss possible. More than this, however, the GainCell DAC uses fully balanced circuitry throughout. A fully balanced circuit resists both electromagnetic and radio frequency interference, helping to improve the music’s clarity and precision.
Wide range of digital inputs
With its I2S port (HDMI), you can connect digital components and stream at the highest quality (384kHz). The GainCell DAC caters for many other digital inputs, too. For a laptop or PC you’ll find a USB-B connection. Other audio sources are accommodated via the optical and twin coaxial inputs.
Analogue inputs
For the highest quality analogue input, use the balanced XLR sockets. For all your other sources, there are three RCA, line level inputs. Outputting the pre-amp to your power amp or active speakers is via RCA phono or balanced XLR.
Class A headphone amp
Featuring a dedicated, Class A, headphone amplifier, the GainCell DAC also makes the most of your headphones. The 6.35mm headphone jack suits high-end headphones and there’s plenty of current on hand to drive them to their full extent.
