Winning sound, super-charged
Already a highly rated compact floorstanding speaker, the Russel K Red120Se makes what is already an award-winner, even better. With a new tweeter, revised woofer, improved crossover and new plinth and spikes, every element of the Red120’s design has been upgraded. There’s more detail for a more lifelike sound, yet the balance remains smooth and refined, for satisfying, fatigue-free listening.
Compact floorstanders with a powerful heart
Front-ported and compact in size, the Russell K Red 120Se speakers are amongst the company’s most room-friendly speakers. If you have a smaller to medium-sized room, them make the way to enjoy the famous Russell K signature sound, without intruding on your living space. Despite their compact size, the Red 120Se speakers develop impressive bass, making them excel with a wide range of music genres.
Enhanced top-end response
Featuring an upgraded tweeter, the Red 120Se extracts more information from the highest frequencies. This means that you hear a more subtle and lifelike sound, with tiny nuances of sound, such as the brush of cymbals being clearer to hear. Despite the enhanced detail, the sound isn’t artificially brighter or harsher. Instead, the Red 120Se has the rare ability to be able to play the most complex and intense music in a refined and fatigue-free way.
Improved bass performance
With revised voice coils in Se format, the bass is more tuneful, while still maintaining impressive bass extension. The superior bass control also makes for easier room placement, further enhancing the speakers’ performance in tighter spaces.
Dedicated sub bass driver for full-bodied sound
Just like the standard version, the Red 120Se is a 3-way design with the bottom woofer dedicated to producing the deepest bass notes. Bracing shelves focus the bass, letting it exploit the bass reflex port, without it affecting the critical mid-range. This means that you get the benefit of deep, powerful bass, without it ‘clouding’ vocal and other mid-range instrument performances.
Innovative drive unit loading for natural mid-range
With a shelf at both sides of the woofer unit, mid-range from the driver is contained, with only bass frequencies being able to escape into the cabinet’s full volume. This results in a drastic reduction in mid-range standing waves, meaning that vocals and mid-range instruments sound pure and focused.
Rigid cabinets with minimal damping for agile sound
What makes Russel K speakers unusual is their completely undamped cabinets. Russel K’s research showed that internal damping slowed down and deadened the sound, making it sound out of synch with the drivers. By removing any damping, the sound became fast-paced and agile, just as the original instrument or voice sounded. For minimal distortion, the cabinets are thin-walled and use internal bracing, controlling cabinet flex to diminish ‘boxy’ sound.
New plinth and spikes
With so many different floor surfaces, from stone to thick carpet, keeping a consistent interface between floor and floorstanding speaker isn’t easy. The Red 120Se model improves on the standard model’s plinth by adding a polymer insert to the double plinth system. Combined with the new spikes, this helps further isolate the speaker from the floor, giving a more consistent and less coloured sound.
Choice of luxury finishes
For the ideal match for your décor, the Red 120 comes in a range of oak veneer finishes. Chose Black Oak with an off-black baffle for a classic style, Rich Oak with off-black baffle for the best match with warmer room tones or regular, light Oak with a white baffle for a more contemporary style.
Redefine your compact floorstander expectations, with the stunning Russell K Red 120Se.
