Direct drive with coreless motor for pristine sound Just like with the legendary SL1200/1210 turntables, Technics have chosen a direct drive motor for the SL-40CBT. The motor design also features coreless tech. This results in the elimination of ‘cogging’ which can afflict other direct drive turntables. Cogging is an instability in the running speed, which gives inconsistent pitch. The result is that the SL-40CBT delivers rock-solid pitch for smooth and lifelike sound.
Classic tonearm The SL-40CBT’s tonearm is a classic S-shape design that tracks precisely and is easy to handle. The aluminium tonearm has a range of adjustments that makes it easy to maximise the cartridge’s performance. Adjust the weight and bias for the perfect match, while the detachable headshell makes swapping cartridges a quick and simple process.
Audio Technica cartridge supplied The fitted Audio Technica AT-VM95C makes an excellent starter cartridge. It features a good quality conical stylus for durability and low wear and tear on your records. With a wide range of upgrade VM95 styli to choose from, it’s also easy to improve the sound – simply by sliding on a new stylus.
