Weightier sound
The Origin Live Calypso MKV advances on the more basic decks by offering an integrated inertia disc system for even cleaner and deeper sound. Featuring a precision, Swiss motor and low friction drive train, it’s lifelike and neutral sounding, with the refined suspension system keeping vibrations at bay. The deck comes without arm or cartridge, letting you choose how to spec it and giving you the option to upgrade over time.
Inertia disc system for reduced resonance
Positioned beneath the platter, Origin Live’s stainless steel HID (Heavy Inertia Disc) adds mass to the platter, reducing vibration traveling across the plinth and into the sub-chassis. In addition to this, two smaller inertia discs, positioned at the extremes of the plinth, resist ground and airborne sources of vibration. Combined with the Calypso’s high mass chassis, the benefit is superbly damped sound with the lack of vibration ensuring the most subtle details are clearly heard.
MLP enhanced
Origin Live’s Multi-Layer Platter features an intricately designed top plate with over a thousand, laser cut slots. This joins a composite layer which is then carefully screwed to an acrylic platter. The separate layers work together to diffuse surface resonance, producing a clearer and better defined sound.
Precision Swiss motor and ultra-low friction bearings for perfect pitch
With its high-grade DC100 Swiss motor, the Calypso has the perfect foundations for smooth-running, low vibration and speed stability. The in-house MKV bearing mirrors these qualities, with its ultra-low levels of friction not only letting the music flow freely but also providing a long life expectancy.

Suspended turntables help isolate the deck from vibrations, reducing sound colouration and harsh distortion. They can also reduce the music’s impact, however, which is why you’ll see both types of suspended and non-suspended designs at every level. The Calypso’s unique suspension design offers the isolating benefits but without the potential disadvantages, meaning that timing, pace and imaging are all still first-rate.
