"All of the inherent qualities of OLED combined with the picture processing smarts of Sony equals an utterly stunning television." 'What Hi-Fi? magazine'. 5-star review. Tested at £3500.

OLED - self-illuminating pixels for the ultimate picture quality

Backlighting technology is a thing of the past with OLED. Instead of using various arrays of LEDs to light an LCD display, OLED uses over eight million self-illuminating pixels for sensational image quality. With self-illuminating pixels you get outstanding contrast. Blacks are far deeper than LED displays and corresponding whites much brighter. For the ultimate in realism, OLED is where it's at.

Ultimate picture quality with X1 Extreme processor - whatever the source
Sony's newly developed X1 Extreme processor has an impressive 40% more real-time processing than the already high-performing X1. What's more, this processor is smart enough the know the difference between a 4K UHD Blu-ray, Netflix 4K and USB streaming, to deliver the best possible image quality, whatever the source.

Highly advanced HDR
Object-Based HDR remaster analyses images and enhances both colour and textures for extraordinary realism and depth. Super Bit Mapping 4K HDR further enhances this by eliminating the 'banding' that can be seen on inferior TVs as the tone and shade gradually change. Now a sunset looks just like a true sunset rather than a graduated approximation.

Hear crystal-clear sound without seeing any speakers
Sony's OLED doesn't use conventional speakers, it simply makes the screen move with the sound! By using twin actuators at the rear of the screen, the whole surface acts as one, cohesive speaker. As well as improving the looks, it also means the sound is more accurately located to the image, giving more believable dialogue sync.

Powerful bass from built-in subwoofer
For the deepest bass notes, the Sony's screen gets a little help from a built-in subwoofer. Cleverly hidden in the rear support stand, the subwoofer provides extra punch for action movies and soundtracks when called on.

Be immersed by the picture. Just the picture
Take a look at the front of this Sony 55" OLED TV and you'll see no stand, no speakers and not even a 'Sony' badge. All you see is a finely framed screen, so you can concentrate on the class-leading picture quality with no distractions.

Multi-purpose stand
Supporting the screen is an ingenious pivoting stand design. Inside the stand is not only the subwoofer bass speaker but also all the connection sockets. Once connected, a flush fabric cover sits over the entire section, giving a clean, clutter free appearance that's, almost, as smart as the front. If you'd rather wall mount the TV, then simply fold the stand flat against the rear of the TV and hang it up.

Android TV
Offering the slick interaction of the best smartphones, Android TV is one of the smartest content managers and providers to date. Boasting features such as GoogleCast, Google Play and Voice Search, this Sony is part TV and part giant smartphone.

Voice Search and Content Bar for effortless searching
Even with such a massive range of content, finding what you want is always easy. Voice Search means you simply say what you're looking for and let Android TV find it for you. The unobtrusive content bar quickly lets you find the movie, TV show or video you're after. Call up the Content bar and you can keep watching, while you scan through live TV, on demand, downloaded TV shows and more.

The best in vision, sound and style - the Sony KD55A1 has it all.

Please note, when setting up the A1 OLED TV the foot stand has an unlocking clip that needs to be released before it will pull out. If the foot stand is forced out without using this release clip correctly the TV will suffer major damage.

SONY BRAVIA KD55A1 is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Brilliant TV Absolutely superb picture and very easy to set up and use. The sound is very good for a flat screen. Haven't used too many of the features yet so can't comment too much on them. I understand that the user interface may not be to everyone's taste but if you already have a Sony TV it will feel very familiar.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best picture quality I’ve seen but a slow android interface. Great tv, comes to life with 4K HDR content. Sadly the Android operating system feels underpowered or not well optimised as it can become laggy to navigate the menus.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best TV I have had This TV replaced an old but great Pioneer Kuros plasma, so we were looking for a screen which offered as good or better blacks and colour. Decided that the blacks could only be matched by an OLED. Tried an LGE6 and that was good but had a colour fault (green smearing, probably from physical damage) and was fragile. The Sony is much better, with top build quality and great colours. The OS is not the best but the picture processing is so far unsurpassed. The sound system is a bonus and works very well. Highly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really great TV The 55A1 is my first step into OLED technology and i'm very glad i took it. I debated on the LG 7 series before settling on the Sony A1 due to its great reviews and several demos i had in store and i am more than happy with my choice. Its not cheap but you do get what you pay for...Superb Image Quality, Best in Class Processing, Cutting Edge Design and Sony Quality. Buy one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great I waited for a year umming and ahhing about buying the lge6, noticed it was reduced to under 2000, local shop had its last unit available for a bit more off. So very happy until I saw the Sony and elected to pay over 3k..! Is it worth it? Who knows?! The image on all inputs is beautiful straight out of the box, it feels absolute quality( my dad had a previous oled from oh which he had issues with), it's Sony which rightly or wrongly always makes me feel better. At this point in time it's the best tv for me and the 2 minute decision to buy it shows that whatever reservations I had with other models were no issue with this one. Only slight downside is I find myself playing around with the sound only with blue ray playback, but I don't feel the need to buy a sound bar. I have my 9 year old pioneer kuro as my main posh tv, and this is the only television in that time that has made me notice image quality

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing picture and sound quality Richer sounds perfect as always Purchased in May 2017 had LG OLED before This Sony OLED takes picture quality even further and the sound from the screen is just amazing, it just works and is so direct to what is going on, on the TV screen. The design is different from others but is truly outstanding and looks modern. Also the TV is full 4K and HDR etc with update for Dolby Vison and HLG HDR coming soon. Picture quality with Sky Q, Bluray and PS4 Pro is the best I have seen. If you have the money and want the best this TV won't let yoh down.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from THIS HAS TO BE A FUTURE MARKET LEADER. THE PICTURE AND THE SOUND ARE ASTONISHING. VERY, VERY CLEVER PIECE OF QUALITY KIT I would like to thank Jason and Rich, from the Cheltenham Branch, for coming round and setting the TV up for us. Nothing was too much trouble. When they played a 4K Netflix clip of wildlife in Costa Rica as a demo, we were all so amazed by the sheer quality of the picture, we sat in complete silence watching it to the end! Sony OLED is a truly wondrous thing to behold.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I splashed out for the Sony over the LG and it paid off massively. Anyone thinking about purchasing this TV will probably have read the forums, seen the YT videos, hopefully seen one in the flesh and know everything they need to know about the tech specs – so I just wanted to give some extra information that only someone who'd bought one could really offer. I knew that if I didn't buy the Sony I'd always miss the incredible industrial design, the new sound system, the menus. The general feel of quality. Well – all I can say is – it's well worth it. I feel extremely happy about this TV and hope it lasts me a good decade. I absolutely love it and made the right purchase. Richer Sounds delivered it the next day and the whole experience could not have been better. Will definitely use again. Top class. Thanks!
