Legendary speakers, made better
Famous for their sound for over three decades, the AE1s are truly legendary speakers. Back in 1987, the original speaker set ground-breaking standards in producing deep, expansive sound from compact cabinets. The all-metal drivers were also highly innovative at the time and helped in giving these speakers such incisive dynamics. Fast forward nearly 40 years and Acoustic Energy have thoroughly reimagined this classic design, with the AE1 40th Anniversary Edition.
Pinpoint precision from the top end
Just like the original, the AE1 40th Anniversary features a metal dome tweeter. The latest aluminium dome is slightly larger than the original, promoting lower distortion and improved soundstaging. It also features a large rear chamber, reducing resonance for improved dynamics and lifelike precision.
Smooth, natural midrange performance
As with the tweeter, the woofer unit is designed to match the original’s sonic characteristics as closely as possible. Just like the first example, the cone uses aluminium for light weight and rigidity. In this case, the spun aluminium is hard anodised on both sides, further enhancing its performance, meaning you get to hear every subtle nuance of midrange detail.
Powerful bass performance
The originals astonished for their bass presence, and the 40th Anniversary Edition still impresses, all those years later. Using a high power motor system, with a new aluminium shorting ring, the speakers deliver deep, powerful bass, with incredibly low levels of distortion for such small speakers.
Easier to drive
One significant improvement for the newer speakers is that they’re now much easier to drive. The original models required a hefty, high current amp to get the best from them. The newer speakers are more efficient and don’t require such high power amplification, meaning that you can enjoy the speakers with a wider range of amps.
Stylish, high performance cabinets
The compact and slimline cabinets have an unobtrusive footprint, making them a room-friendly design. They use 18-22mm thick RSC (Resonance Suppression Composite) construction to greatly reduce cabinet distortion that can colour the sound.
Choice of luxury finishes
Available in High Gloss Walnut and High Gloss Black, the AE1 40th Anniversary speakers take a big step-up in finish from the original’s studio-grade matte black offering. Slim profile, magnetically attached grilles are also included for a more discreet style.
