Great entry level system. Looks very smart
I have been using these speakers for a year now paired with a Sony Str-dn1080 AV unit. This is my first surround sound system and I'm quite pleased with the performance. The speakers are good for watching movies where there's a lot of on screen action but as they're quite small they don't generate the biggest sound. They're best suited for smaller rooms. I sometimes find the centre channel a bit lacking and dialogue isn't always that clear unless you have the volume cracked up quite high. With the speakers being quite small the bass is handled entirely by the sub. This works OK but in a bigger room you would want speakers with more substantial drivers. The best thing about the system is that the speakers look awesome and fit in very well with my room.

Small But Perfectly Formed!
I was surprised by the lack of reviews for the MASS 5.1 Gen 2 surround system system. In fact the lack of reviews was the initial reason I had not considered them.
I was after a 5.1 system for a smaller room and I had gone into Richer Sounds, Reading to audition the Wharfedale DX2 which sounded great. However, after 30-40 minutes or so the team suggested that with my taste in music I might like to try the MASS 5.1. A quick change over of speakers and off I went again.
I was thoroughly impressed with these speakers. I was not expecting an excellent sound from such small speakers. There is not a lot to choose between these and the Wharfedale DX2 to my ears, but the MASS 5.1 sounded slight 'warmer' and little less 'harsh' that the DX2 (without trying to sound too full of What Hi-Fi hyperbole). To my ears the MASS 5.1 sounded better with music than the DX2 but there was not a lot in it, whereas the DX2 had the edge with the movies. Bizarrely the only review I did find criticises the MASS 5.1 for not being great with music. I could not disagree more.
These speakers are a massive improvement over my old all in one Blu Ray / surround sound system. They are more than powerful enough for the loft conversion I have my system set up in.
So then Plus points:
* Great sounding speakers.
* Small satellite speakers can be placed almost any where.
* Solid well made speakers. Front and back covers simply clip off.
Negative:
* The sub woofer is on the larger size, bigger than the one that came with DX2 system
* If you want to wall mount the speakers you will need the brackets at £18 each
* If you are using banana plugs you will need to remove the back of the speakers (they just clip off) as the back will not fit over the plugs.
Overall if your budget allows I would go for the MASS 5.1 over the DX2. Highly recommended.

Great system for entry level
Previously stuck to Bose 5.1 systems however the prices these days are eye watering, took my first foray into the audiophile world with these speakers paired with a Onkyo TXRZ730 amp and ..... WOW! These have blown any system I previously owned away. Installation was simple too, I paired these with the Monitor Audio wall mounts.
Still experimenting with the crossover effects etc (and I’m sure getting it wrong as I’m new to in-depth audio, however even with the experimenting the soundstage is great!)
Richer sounds too were a first and will now be my sole tech shop when it comes to AV equipment, putting together a package deal without needing to haggle I was shocked yet pleased, then the after sales care as I was nervous ditching “simple” systems, demoing the system when I just randomly turned up too without an appointment (although I think I was just lucky on that day) .... they have been faultless.
Sound quality from a “compact” system - 5/5
Ease of use - 4/5 (just due to my personal
experiences of plug and play, not needing to tweak dials or settings)
Value - 5/5 (personal preference I suppose but to sound better than systems I spent over £2K on before 100% value for money)
