Legendary direct drive for supreme stability
Just like famous Technics of the past and present, this flagship turntable uses a version of its famous direct drive motor. The upgraded, coreless design was first launched in 2016 and, with the SL-1000R is further refined for ultimate performance. Featuring high torque and a heavy-duty bearing, the motor delivers incredibly stable rotation, producing intense sonic realism. Listen to a highly pitch sensitive instrument, such as a piano, and you’ll hear an unwavering solidity to the sound that’s hard to beat.

Vibration quelling design
Improvements made to the motor’s mounting add mass and help reduce vibrations. This greatly enhances the signal-to-noise ratio, making the music’s backdrop quieter. A quieter backdrop means that previously unheard details begin to shine through, letting you hear the music in all its glory. The sheer mass of the design also helps in quelling sonically harmful vibrations. At over 40kg in weight, this turntable is a two-person lift!

Heavyweight platter for powerful bass
Constructed from brass, tungsten and die-cast aluminium, the platter weighs more than many turntables in their entirety (7.9kg if you were wondering). This helps give it incredible inertial mass, giving you a sound that’s every bit as solid and focused as you’d imagine. Sandwiched between rubber damping pads, vibration is effectively supressed, helping to deliver an even purer and more natural sound.

Dedicated electronic speed control unit
Supplied with a dedicated, electronic speed control, the SL-1000R is a joy to use. The control unit lets you effortlessly switch between 33/45/78 speeds, as well as adjusting the pitch. The OLED display shows the rotation speed with accuracy to two decimal places, letting you make minute adjusts for total precision. Housing the speed control in a separate casing also helps improve the sound quality, as the deck is not affected by potential electronic interference from the speed control system.

High precision tonearm*
Made in Japan to the highest standards, the high precision tonearm makes the perfect match for this premium turntable. It uses a signature Technics, S-shaped tonearm, constructed of magnesium for the ultimate combination of lightweight and rigidity. Combined with the gimbal suspension and high-precision bearings, it means that the tonearm tracks the record’s grooves with absolute accuracy. High-grade, OFC (Oxygen Free Copper) internal cabling maximises the signal integrity sent from your choice of cartridge.

Optional tonearm bases for up to three arms*
For turntable addicts, the SL-1000R has the option of adding a further two tonearm bases. These are positioned at the rear and left-hand side of the plinth, giving you a choice of up to three tonearms to choose from. As different tonearm and cartridge solutions provide unique sonic signatures, you can use a different ‘arm depending on the music genre.
