"If you've already got a good DAC, the Cambridge CXC transport is a no-brainer." 'What Hi-Fi? Sound & Vision magazine'. 5-star review. Tested at £300.

Transport-only design

The Cambridge CXC is a CD transport only, so inside you'll only find 'half' of what's usually inside a CD player. Although this may sound unconventional, it has many benefits. The most obvious of these is cost effectiveness, but there are sonic benefits to be had, too. Without an onboard DAC (Digital to Analogue Convertor), the power supply only has to drive the CD transport. By being dedicated to this task it can provide a clean, stable power supply for the highest performance possible at its price.

Pair with your choice of DAC
Another advantage is increased flexibility. Chose to match with one of the Cambridge CXA digital amplifiers or use your own choice of DAC entirely. By starting with such a high quality transport design, the CXC could see you through many system and DAC upgrades without being in the least bit out of place.

S3 servo
Rather than using 'off the shelf' CD software, Cambridge uses its own S3 servo processor. Dedicated to CD music playback rather than the multi-purpose disc readers, the CXC maximises the full potential of your audio CDs. With state-of-the-art error correction your CDs simply sound more realistic, more dynamic and more detailed than with other players.

Sleek style
The CXC is part of the totally redesigned CX-Series. The distinctive tear-drop profile gives the CXC a contemporary look and makes it the ideal partner for the digital amplifiers and network player. Yet it's far more than just a good-looking case - it helps the sound quality, too. With rigid, metal construction and low-resonance design, the casing helps shield the player from both mechanical and electrical interference, helping to improve clarity and reduce background noise.

Dedicated to the finest sound from CD possible, the Cambridge CXC CD transport redefines CD playback quality at its price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Is this the ultimate? Been using a Meridian G08 as transport for a Chord QDB76 DAC, the Meridian is of the dvd drive reading re-clocking and up-sampling school. All I can say is replacing the Meridian with the CXC lifts a veil, when you consider the Meridian was about £2k, this CXC is a bargain. I also have a Cambridge Audio CD30 Sonata, which is stunning in its sound quality, unfortunately the load tray needs encouragement (specifically a wallop!) to read a cd. It seems the Wolfson dacs (designed in Scotland) are stunning and surpass anything that's say 10 years or older. I hope the Topaz CD10 isn't the end of the line it would be great to see another Azure/Wolfson midrange player. Ref 'lampizator' website for a verdict on the Azure 640 with Wolfson DAC.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding upgrade The CXC is well made and very neat, with only essential controls on the front panel. I ws impressed with the weightiness and finish. I run it through a Beresford Caiman SEG DAC, Naim72/HiCap/mono NAP 110's and Epos ES14 speakers. It replaces a Linn Genki, originally used as a standalone and lately via the outboard DAC. The CXC certainly gets deeper into the recording than the Linn. I played some favorite tracks which I thought I knew inside out. The CXC extracts instruments and backing vocals, burried deep in the mix that were simply not being resolved before! Soundstage is wide, loud passages are resolved with less confusion, and the whole presentation is more believable and intimate. Two small gripes, you cannot enter individual track numbers, so have to use the fast skip buttons to play individual tracks and the display is very dim if your eyeline is below the level of the player.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superb CXC exceeds expectations. I bought this cd transport just 8 days ago, connected it to my T & A Dac , checked that sound was coming through as expected and noted that there was nothing special about the sound. Just what I expected. Every day since I have put it on repeat and played it for maybe 10 hours a day. After 3 days , the sound quality had really improved and as I write now having put some 80 hours on it I can honestly say this is one of the finest cd transports available . No harshness, lots of detail revealed - even on well known cd's. One of the ways this unit excels is timing (PRAT) . Cd's that can otherwise sound boring are now keeping my interest all the way through. The detail of minor instruments comes through and enhances the enjoyment factor.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cambridge CXC I have had this cd transporter for only a few weeks but it was just what I was looking for.I already own a Naim Muso but these don't have a CD player so Richer Sounds recommended the CXC to play through the Muso.I had a short demo in the shop as they stocked both items and I decided very quickly that I would buy it.I connected it to the Muso with an optical cable and was up and running in a few minutes.I decided to buy this because sometimes it's so handy to just stick a cd in and play so it has given my cds a new lease of life. The sound quality is excellent and i would think this would vary depending on what you use for a DAC.From switching on to playing it is very fast in operation as it is very fast to read each cd.I have give it 4 stars as when it was reviewed by what hi fi the price was lower than now but that could be because it is selling well. All in all I am very happy with the CXC.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Streets ahead Stunning sound quality. Connected to iRDAC2, Cambridge AM, Q3050s. Compared against the 2017 What HiFi 5* recommended CD player. Significantly better sound - More detail, musicality, etc. Excellent customer service from Richer Sounds, no issues on returning the 1st CD player (didn't sound any better than a 15yr old Arcam player). CXC was a big improvement.
