With inputs for a turntable and digital sources, plus power to spare, the Cambridge Audio Topaz SR20 is the compromise-free receiver.

Power aplenty

At the heart of the SR20 is a high quality, amplifier that's powered by an oversized toroidal transformer. This sort of quality component is usually reserved for more expensive amps and gives the SR20 a class-leading power output of 100W per channel. This means the Cambridge Audio SR20 has the ability to drive a wide range of speakers to high volume levels, even in larger rooms. Two sets of outputs make it possible to run a second set of speakers simultaneously in another room, and there's a dedicated subwoofer output.

Digital inputs
With twin optical and a coaxial digital input there are options for a range of digital sources. Connect your TV, set-top box, games console, DVD player and a whole host of other sources and with a top quality Wolfson DAC (Digital to Analogue Convertor) built in, the sound from most sources will be noticeably enhanced compared to using the analogue inputs.

Plenty of analogue inputs
The SR20 has three line level inputs and an output for recording. There's also a good quality MM phono stage, so you can connect a turntable without needing a separate phono pre-amp. At the front there's an input for an MP3 player or iPod and a headphone socket. In short, the Cambridge SR20 has everything you need to form the basis of a complete hi-fi system.

Built-in radio
The tuner radio, of course, is already built-in. The FM/AM design offers 30 pre-sets (15FM/15AM) and excellent quality sound. The RDS functionality is easy to view via the cool-blue display.

Cambridge quality
Built to Cambridge Audio's usual high standard, the Topaz SR20 is also far better made than the class average. A rigid metal casing with brushed aluminium front panel looks and feels a lot more luxurious than the thin steel case and plastic front panel that's more common at this price. The full metal casing also offers excellent resistance to both electrical and mechanical interference, giving a cleaner, purer sound.

As a powerful heart to your complete hi-fi system, the Topaz SR20 is simply without rival.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just Brilliant I bought this to replace an ancient stereo amp and separate tuner. Beautifully simple to operate from the remote and with a good selection of inputs. Great sound.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Necessary replacement My Marantz PM7003 was failing and I needed a replacement. This piece of kit produces a different sound probably less bright but at my age (66) I am probably losing some of my hearing so the sound is good enough. I especially needed to be able to select between two sets of speakers or both as the speakers are in separate rooms with cable connections. I also needed to have enough punch to satisfy my ancient AKAI speakers (main) and less ancient Monitors. Having no TV we listen to radio and other audio for at least 10 hours per day. Full range of DVDs from opera to travel documentaries, CDs, minidiscs, tapes, CDs and vinyl, DAB and FM. With so much legacy equipment the number of inputs was not quite enough but I use a three way external switch which because the amp is also a FM receiver just sufficed. The FM reception is good which is more than can be said for DAB locally. If I had to replace this would I buy the same again? Probably. Would I recommend it? I don't as a rule make recommendations and I would advise listening to it and comparing. Everyone has different set ups and preferences but this amp seems to work OK and is easy to use.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great little performer but! Great performance & nice blue display screen but let down by very difficult to read programming buttons. Initial set up information ok but could so easily be replaced by the relatively short online instruction book which despite several attempts would not print from the pdf format.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Don`t know if i like it? Hate it`s look. Have to remember what device is connected on the numbered buttons! Since the week i owned it the right channel only get`s a terrible interference and have to turn off then on again? ....Just couldn`t be bothered to take it back for repair. I am using it on the original 1972 but later speakers in the huge Cambridge R50`s and does sound superb after it "running in". Good range of bass & treble. Only bought it for power and the optical in for my 4k TV ......lack of optical in on Amplifiers so have to buy Receivers and the radio part not used at all. All in all i think one could do better looking around more.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from First class performance on optical and analogue inputs Easy to use, with the remote control. Beautiful clear sound with no observable acoustic defects or artefacts. The build quality and finish are outstanding. I can now use my dual speaker connections, one pair for base, one pair for treble, for the first time, once the cables are made.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from More than adequate I was offered this amp due to unavailability of another amp, whilst I haven't used all connections it is an an improvement on my previous amp ( also a Cambridge still going strong ) I have a Brennan connected to the Topaz and the difference in sound quality is easily noticeable, I'm using a pair of Q Acoustics 3020 speakers and these work well with the Topaz

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to set up and operate and great performance Needed to purchase a new amp in a hurry as my existing (38 year old!) one decided to give up just prior to an event at home. Went to Richer Sounds where I received excellent service and advice. Purchased this item and was delighted by its performance. It led me to upgrading other equipment, that was of similar age to my failed amp, to do it justice! It received very favourable comments from friends. I am very happy with this product and grateful to the staff at Richer Sounds Southampton for their help and advice.
