Passive soundbar; you choose the amp
If you like the idea of a soundbar - and who wouldn't as they're a sleek and neat solution to improved TV sound - but are loathed to get rid of your existing AV receiver, then the Monitor Audio SB-2 could be just what you're looking for. With no amplification built in, it's ready to plug straight into the left, centre and right channel outputs of your existing amp/receiver. This way you get the full benefit of your existing hardware with the addition of superb Monitor Audio speakers.
High quality Monitor Audio sound
When it comes to sound quality, the Monitor Audio SB-2 shows its hi-fi heritage. With a powerful bass, accurate mid-range and detailed treble response, the SB2 sounds every bit the quality hi-fi speaker. Making use of three C-CAM gold dome tweeters and separate C-CAM woofers, you not only get precise audio but also a sound stage that's wide enough to fully immerse.
Powerful bass
To make sure that explosions can be felt as well as heard, the SB-2 also features three ABRs (Auxiliary Bass Reflex) speakers. These are dedicated to giving you a deep and powerful bass although, if you really want to 'go low', then a separate active subwoofer is still the best option.

Rather than having front left, centre and right speakers scattered across your wall, the Monitor Audio SB2 places them all in one, sleek casing. With its black grille and contrasting brushed aluminium side panels, the SB2 looks discreet yet classy.
Easy placement, optional wall bracket

Taken Audio to another level
Bought this recently and connected it up to my Denon receiver - very impressed and a really ‘room filling rich sound‘ especially after adjusting everything with Audessey! Love it!

Great sound. Perfect solution for corner TV setup
Like many with a TV in the corner I didnt have the space for seperate speakers, the guys at Richer Sounds Leicester made me aware of this passive soundbar and im so glad they did. Hooked up to my Yamaha AV reciever vocals are crystal claer even at low volumes and the Left and Right channels do a great job of filling the room with sound. Its quite big so if your putting it infront of the TV, as I have, you may need to riase the TV so as not to block the bottom of the screen. Not using with a sub at the moment but will add one soon to take the sound to the next level :)

Bought to improve the sound from my Samsung LED TV, wanted a passive soundbar to connect with my Dennon AV receiver, great service from the weybridge

Great sound, what else do you need
I didn’t have enough space to set up a pair of front speakers plus a centre speaker then I found the SB2. So glad I did. It would be quite big as a sound bar but as the speaker bar it is, its a very neat space saving solution.The sound quality, to my ear, is excellent played through my Yamaha AV receiver and makes movies very enjoyable to watch and hear.

Great sound, compact and looks good
Bought this to replace 2 x monolith Mission front standers and a Dali Lektor centre speaker. Asthetics was the only reason for the change.
I wanted a passive sound bar and, for some reason, these are difficult to find. However, the monitor is excellent. Good quality sound (I have this paired with a Cambridge Audio subwoofer and Cambridge Minx rear speakers and an Onkyo 636 amp). I am very glad i bought this

Good-quality and good-looking sound bar
I wanted to keep my AV amp and some rear speakers for a 5.1 surround-sound experience, but "room aesthetics" meant my front speakers had to go when we purchased a much larger TV.
My sound bar is simply placed directly in front of the TV, not wall-mounted. The sound bar, being passive, is of course easy to 'set up' ie just insert in the banana plugs (had to remove the plastic inserts in the sound bar first, the usual story) for the centre and L+R speakers. 30 seconds, all done. Then calibrate sound levels using the AV amp's microphone, sit back and enjoy.....
The sound is good, surprisingly so given that I had good-quality front speakers beforehand. Vocals are particularly clear, bass is (probably) OK but since I have a separate sub-woofer, can't comment. No audible distortion, no 'nasalness' in the vocals, silky upper frequencies, reasonably-wide sound field ie not too directional, just about right.
