Dolby Atmos, DTS:X and DTS Neural:X for cinematic sound
This Onkyo AVR is compatible with both Dolby Atmos and DTS:X*. Both formats use ceiling or upward firing speakers to deliver an immersive, multi-dimensional sound. Dolby Atmos and DTS:X make an overhead aircraft sound frighteningly realistic or a tropical storm a drenching experience. DTS Neural:X upmixes non-DTS:X signals, giving you a similarly enveloping sound with other sources.
*Note, up-firing speakers are used instead of rear speakers, creating a 3.2.2 channel system.
Get the Atmos or DTS:X effect, without the extra speakers
It's not always possible to accommodate Atmos or DTS:X height speakers, which is when Dolby Atmos Height Virtualization and DTS Virtual:X come in handy. Play any Dolby format and enjoy a more immersive sound with virtual height enhancement – using your existing speakers. DTS Virtual:X also creates a more enveloping sound from any DTS codec. Compatible with 2 or 5.1 speaker configurations, DTS Virtual:X gives a greater impression of height and immersive sound.
Quality Onkyo sound
With its high output transformer and large capacitors, the TXSR393 is easily up to reproducing deep, dynamic cinema sound. For signal purity, Onkyo use a discrete amplifier circuit rather than an inferior IC chip. Although more costly to produce, discrete amplification offers many benefits including a purer sound, better dynamics and reduced heat build-up for improved reliability.

With built-in Bluetooth, it's not just cinema sound that's given a boost but music from your smartphone or tablet, too. Use Onkyo’s Advanced Music Optimizer and any compressed music formats are given a richer, more expansive sound.

Fantastic Value Onkyo Receiver
I bought this to replace an older, but much more expensive receiver. At £299 this was the cheapest 5.1 receiver I could find from a decent brand.
Pros:- Great sound quality & easy set up.
Cons:- A bit light weight & plasticky finish. Rear spring clip connections are really cheap & only really large enough for bell wire. I had to cut down my cables to get a stable fit.
Verdict:- Overall a great value receiver if you only need a basic 5.1 speaker setup.

Good priced receiver.
This is a very good bugget amp apart from one problem,
I can't really fault it. The main issues, for some strange
reason when viewing apps via the tv (Netflix, Disney, etc)
I receive audio drop outs.
When using these same apps through Sky Q or even plugging
in a USB, they work fine. I have a different
amp in my living room, and have no issues with this.

A Great piece of kit.
Trying to get a good quality 5.1 surround system seemed to be a quest too far. Till I found richer sounds. The only system was perfect for my needs. It allows multiple inputs from tv, cd, dvd, bluray, sat and cable, with outputs for speakers front, sides, high. And surround. The sound system is set up with a directional mic (which is included in the package) once set up the sound quality can then by set for voice, music, movies, at the touch of a button. The Bluetooth connectivity allows you to connect phones, tablets, mp3 players etc... so a very versatile piece of kit...
The set up was quite easy. There is included software that takes you through the procedure step by step, which makes it simple to follow.
Overall. FANTASTIC UNIT. A little larger than the old unit it repla Ed but the quality and sound are brilliant.

Bought this from Richer Sounds Oxford. The price was below that of other retailers. The unit has great sound and is easy to use. It includes Dolby Atmos and works well with our existing speaker system.

Very helpful
After a very helpful telephone conversation with a member of staff regarding our defunct amp, we decided to visit the store for further investigation as to whether it was repairable.
We were shown into the demo suite where the staff member plugged the amp in , conducted various tests whilst keeping us informed as he went along.
He was trying to establish whether it could be repaired but unfortunately that was not the case.
After further discussion we were offered the opportunity to purchase an Onkyo amplifier.
It was delivered within a couple of days and we were able to set it up ourselves, we are not technically minded, so this demonstrates how straightforward it is to do.
It is great to have the five speakers back in action, the sound repro is excellent and we are extremely delighted with the purchase.
A big thank you to Richer Sounds, Cambridge for their professionalism and expertise.
