"Anything that keeps vinyl fresh and appealing is gold in our eyes, and the PS-HX500 is a great example of that." What Hi-Fi Award Winner 2017

High Resolution revolution – from record to DSD file

The Sony PSHX500 encapsulates the very best of old and new technologies by being able to record from vinyl to DSD Hi-Res Audio. Equipped with an ADC (Analogue to Digital Convertor) the Sony plugs into your laptop or PC via USB, where discs are recorded in High Resolution. With file quality up to PCM 192kHz/24-bit or DSD 5.6MHz, your stored records now have the potential to sound every bit as good as the finest quality digital audio.

Enjoy your records - any time at home or on the move
Once you’ve recorded your vinyl to Hi-Res audio files you can enjoy them in many places. Upload to a Walkman or other Hi-Res portable player and you can take the music with you or play it through your car stereo. Alternatively, store the music on a NAS (Network Attached Storage) device and you’ll be able to effortless access all your records via a huge range of wireless, network connected music devices, such as Sonos or Heos.

Built in phono stage lets you connect up to any AUX input
Thanks to the built-in phono stage, playing records directly through your hi-fi is easy. Simply connect up to any line level AUX input and let the Sony equalise the sound to the correct level.

High quality deck for reduced distortion
Much more than just a method of converting vinyl to Hi-Res digital, the Sony PS-HX500 is a fine spinner of records in its own right. Rather than being built from flimsy plastic, Sony uses a 30mm thick, acoustic-grade MDF base – just like the dedicated turntable manufacturers use. This gives the deck exceptional rigidity and damping characteristics, benefiting the sound through reduced distortion.

New tonearm for accurate tracking
The high quality tonearm features a new design of integrated headshell for improved sound. The shell’s lightweight structure helps to optimise sound across the frequency range and improve tracking of bass notes, while its rounded shape helps deliver pure sound through lower distortion.

Hear the best of vinyl wherever you are, with Hi-Res recordings made via this revolutionary Sony.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Disappointing Purchased this after tossing a coin between this and the Audio Technica and coin came down on the wrong side. No complaints about the Southampton shop but the product.I purchased was the Sony PSHX500 turntable. The first problem was the stylus came out when removing the protector and unable to fit it back so it necessitated a 50 mile round trip to Southampton for them to fix it. Didn't find it easy setting up the arm as the instructions are certainly not clear and still do not know if it is as it should be, Not being in the first flush of youth the all black surfaces seem to converge making it difficult to operate it unless the spotlight is on it. I realise that this is more my problem in making the wrong choice and nothing to do with the staff who are always helpful but it may help someone else when it comes to making a selection. Just hope the stylus doesn't detach again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just so solid and stylish I bought this recently for my husband's 70th birthday, combined with a Sony amplifier. He is now proudly playing all his old LPs. The turntable is completely quiet - no rumbling and no crackling sounds from our old records. A miracle since our previous turntable picked up every noise from obviously old LPs. A bit tricky to set up (for us oldies) but once it was ready it then looked sleek and stylish, which is a bonus. The arm mechanism is not automatic but my husband is happy - less to go wrong! Our next plan is to come to grips with recording our LPs which we can do from this turntable. This is a good quality Sony product and I would say that it is well worth the investment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great turntable Bought this a couple of weeks ago to replace an aging Dual turntable. Spent weeks looking at other decks but eventually chose this. Wish I hadn’t waited so long. Initially slight speed fluctuations but once belt settled it’s been fine. Not in the slightest disappointed with this turntable and only hope it lasts as long as my 30 year old Dual.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent with a couple of minor annoyances It's nicely built, with a good solid base and feels like it should last. Looks good too, the matte finish looking classy and understated. The power/speed switch is a bit odd, you switch it from Standby to On, but then have to turn it further to 33 or 45 to get the platter spinning - which makes you wonder what the point of the 'on' setting is, if nothing happens at that stage? I'd prefer a simple on/off switch with speed setting lever. Nice to have the inbuilt phono stage, so no need for pre-amps. The USB to HD Audio is a bonus, which works great but wasn't something I really needed. I did suffer some slight speed variations from new, but I simply left the deck running for a couple of hours and the problem vanished, never to return and it has been flawless for the last few months. Presumably the belts/motor just bedding in. Most importantly it sounds great. I'm no audiophile, but I swear you can hear greater detail when listening to vinyl and this produces a lovely sound. The lack of an auto-return function is annoying, definitely something for Sony to add in the next version. Overall I'm delighted with it and wouldn't change my decision, going back to a turntable makes listening to music more involving and an 'event' rather than just instant gratification via streaming. Buy with confidence.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from No auto return loses a star, otherwise it’s a 5 Easy to put together and quick to get started. There’s no auto return which my old Sony from the 80s had, so it’s a little bit annoying to have to hear the clicking of the final revolution before you get up and remove the needle unless it’s done as soon as the record has finished. Sounds really good though!
