The legend continues
Developed as a turntable that was sturdy enough to be used professionally but simple and attractive enough to use at home, the Technics SL-1200 was a hit from the beginning. Starting life in the early '70s, the SL1200 lived through many versions and is still seen by many as the reference deck for club use. The latest SL1200GR model is designed to appeal equally to DJs and audiophiles. With a wide breath of abilities this turntable truly does it all.
Coreless direct drive for the smoothest rotation
First developed for the top-spec 'G' model, a coreless motor is used to cut down on vibration. Development of a single-rotor, surface-facing, coreless direct-drive motor, results in the elimination of 'cogging' which can afflict other direct drive decks.
Rotation control developed through Blu-ray technology
Using motor control technology developed through Blu-ray players, the SL-1200GR verifies and corrects the precision of the motor for perfect pitch stability.
Heavyweight platter construction
Everything about the SL-1200GR's construction is designed to reduce vibration and improve sound quality. The new die-cast aluminium platter features rear-bracing and is 800g heavier than its MK5 predecessor. The improved mass and rigidity improves speed stability and reduces distortion for a cleaner, purer sound.
Fully adjustable tonearm
With high precision bearings and Technics's gimbal suspension system, the S-shaped tonearm is a classic Technics design. It also offers a wide range of adjustments, including VTA (Vertical Tracking Angle), weight and bias, making it ideal for a huge range of different cartridges and even different thicknesses of slipmat. The detachable headshell makes swapping cartridges a quick and simple process.
Connect your own cables
Rather than using static cables like SL-1200s of the past, the SL-1200GR features gold-plated RCA phono terminals. These let you choose your own length and quality of cable that's worthy of a deck of this standard.
Increased pitch control
A new 'x2' button lets you double the range of the pitch control from +/- 8% to +/-16%. This extra range makes it even more flexible as a mixing tool and even handier in the studio than ever.
A reference standard for your home or studio, the Technics SL-1200GR is a true legend within its lifetime.

Disappointing
I've been a Technics owner for ~25 years. My DJing days are behind me, so I decided to sell my SL-1200MK2s to fund a GR. Unfortunately, I'm not sure I've done the right thing. I'm pretty disappointed with the new turntable.
The quality of the paintwork is not great. This is actually a replacement unit. The first one had similar issues and was replaced by Richer. I thought it must have been a one off, but both the original and the replacement were poorly finished.
The platter mat is not perfectly round, so from above, appears to 'wobble' from side to side when the platter is spinning. The centre hole looks like someone has made it with a nail and the hole is actually too small to fit the spindle, so the mat doesn't sit flat on the platter. As a result, records don't sit flat on the mat, making them look warped when they are spinning and causing tracking problems during playback.
Overall, I'm not impressed. Especially at this price point. It's not what I would expect from a £1299 bit of kit.

Perfect
The design is perfect and the standard of build extraordinary for the price. It replaces my much-loved 30 year old Systemdek and I was sceptical about whether it would sound noticeably better using the same Dynavector cartridge but it does! Salesman Hem was very helpful and the delivery went smoothly. I’ll never use the “DJ” features, just enjoy the amazing engineering and sound quality.

The power of vinyl!
I have had this turntable, the first in some thirty-five years, for a few weeks now and I continue to be amazed by the quality. I had forgotten how good vinyl can sound, and I am just enthralled by the glorious detail, the staging and the 'living' nature of the sound. It is quite magical. I might add that the help and advice I received from Jason in Maidstone was just exceptional. I am so glad I selected this deck, which not only reminds me of DJ-ing with my collection of 12'' singles in the 70s and 80s, but is also allowing me to experience all my old classical and other albums that I've dragged down from the loft and haven't heard in decades. One happy customer!
