Rated 5 out of 5 by from 3D is outstanding Purchased mine on line from Richer Sounds a week or two ago (despite the bank blocking the payment twice; it’s becoming tricky to do largish transactions without bank intervention these days). Collected it from Solihull a few days later and it does pretty much what it says on the tin. You would expect the picture to be good with 4K and it really is but the surprise is how brilliantly good ordinary Blu Rays look and even the old DVDs. However even this falls by the wayside when you try 3D Blu Rays. May be its the size of the zoom available, maybe its the brightness that’s available, maybe its the motion enhancing features or the contrast enhancing features that are available; whatever it is, 3D is quite astonishing. It was like watching 3D Avatar at the cinema all over again. Absolutely brilliant; and you can even use the 3D glasses that worked with the Optoma projectors. I’ve not explored all the modes and settings in the menu system but helpfully the projector checks what source you’re using and only offers you the modes that are appropriate; even so there seems to be plenty of room to adjust the set up to your liking. The built-in android TV works fine although there is a bit of updating to do with the two remotes that seem to be a bit confused as to which is controlling what. I only have Prime and a hot spot from my phone but the quality of the 4k streaming is very impressive. One small point if, like me, you use your phone for the internet, the projector needs the Wi-Fi link from the phone to be on 5 GHz not 2.4 GHz. (Very frustrating if you don’t know) Sound is available from an optical output which I use to link to an 18 year old audio amplifier. You have to set this up in the menus otherwise the sound only goes to the internal speaker system which I don’t use. The fan noise can be heard in some of the bright settings when it is working hard but only if the film has a soundtrack that dips into silence. For the most part it’s fine even though the projector is just a few inches from my head. Most of the time I use headphones so it really is no bother at all. I guess I should have started with this but the two twiddly knobs on the top (vertical and horizontal shift) and the huge zoom make it really easy to get the picture exactly where you want it and to fill whatever screen you have perfectly. No more fiddling about with the adjustable feet on the projector. From what I can see, the image shines out exactly in front of the lens not up at an angle as with my old Optoma. Very helpful. I know conditions are important to judge a projector so the room I use has white walls and ceiling (not ideal) the curtains have John Lewis back out material as extra linings, and my screen is home made from a 2.6m length of the same black out material on a simple wooden frame. So low ambient light but some reflected light from the screen bounces off the room. Even so I have not wound up the brightness past 50% and the bright cinema mode looks easily bright enough to cope with a less controlled light environment. I know folk worry about getting good “blacks” with a projector; I’m certainly not an expert but there are a range of picture modes available and only on the brightest setting did the blacks begin to grey out slightly. One last thought on the physical set up. This projector is a beast. Twice the size and weight of my Optoma so don’t get carried away by the picture on the web site where they all look the same size. Measure the space you have before you buy and beware of the weight particularly if you are thinking of a ceiling mount. If this one falls on you from any height you’ll need an ambulance! Alas I’m not a gamer so I cannot offer a view on its performance. For me the projector was pricey. My eyes are still watering a bit but if you enjoy film I’m pretty sure you will have many hours of pleasure out of this projector. The images are really beautiful and, over time, the cost will seem a bit more bearable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Benq W4000i the Upgrade I have been waiting for! This is a dam good projector I got it to replace my Optoma UHD60, which I loved, but it didn't handle dark scenes very well. I Tried upgrading last year to the Optoma UHZ50, but I found the colours were too saturated for my tastes. the Benq W4000i is the perfect upgrade as far as I am concerned, a beautiful bright picture, excellent colour representation and handles dark scene really well. A little noisy but hopefully that is part of the wearing in. Really happy with the service from the Chelsea Store, and the fast delivery, ordered it at 14:00, delivered the next day at 13:00.
