Panasonic DMREX97 (Black)
DVD Recorder HDD 500GB Freeview
£319
With the flexibility to record Freeview TV onto DVD or its HDD hard drive, the Panasonic DMREX97 is a versatile recorder.
Universal DVD recorder
The Panasonic DMREX97 is a flexible DVD recorder that not only plays back a huge variety of discs but also records on all the DVD formats. The recorder is compatible with both single and dual layer (DL) DVD-R and DVD+R formats. It will also record on the re-recordable DVD-RW and DVD+RW discs or even using the rare DVD-RAM system.
HDD hard drive back-up
Backing up the universal disc recording ability is the built-in 500GB hard drive. Using the extended recording EP mode, this allows for up to 860 hours of recording - enough to cover months away from home! Even using the highest quality HG mode, the Panasonic manages an impressive 78 hours of recording.
Twin tuners for ultimate versatility
Twin tuners give the Panasonic DMR-EX97 fantastic versatility. With both tuners compatible with Freeview, you can record two HD programmes simultaneously. This means there's no need to worry about two programmes overlapping. Alternatively, you can watch one programme whilst recording another - even if you're watching on a monitor or projector without its own built-in TV tuner.
TV Series Recording function
Use the TV Series Recording function to automatically record a TV series each time it's broadcast. This takes the hassle out of recording individual episodes and, unlike catch-up TV sites, you can watch the programme again at any time and not just within 30 days.
Quick, easy operation
Panasonic has focused on the user experience of DVDRs to make the DMR-EX97 a far more pleasant recorder to use. With 'Triple 1-Sec Easy Operation', the disc tray, Electronic Programme Guide and Video Menu all operate within an instant.
Whether it's to archive your recording collection or just to record day-to-day TV, the Panasonic DMREX97 delivers the highest quality.

Does what it says on the tin !
I purchased this unit to replace an old Sony device that constantly required retuning.I must add that this unit is used primarily by my wife who is not tech savvy, and prefers to use a video recorder rather than any of the 'Catch-Up' services offered by the major TV channels. After I set it up, which was an easy enough process, she soon familiarised herself with the menus, and is now as happy as a sandboy. Great job. No more need be said.

Very happy with this machine
I have had many Panasonic items over the years & have always been very happy with their performance & this one is no different. Very easy to set up & use, great picture quality & sound plus a large hard drive & the option to burn recordings to DVD if required. Playback of existing DVD’s & CD’s is perfect & the machine also looks very stylish. I would have liked the display clock to show the time when it is in stand-by mode but that’s a minor point. Overall, very happy with my purchase & would recommend.

Don't get rid of your old one.
I've given this machine a month to get used to it. Set up was quick, (once I'd got rid of the Operating Instructions, as advised by my 12 year old granddaughter)
The opening instruction for Easy Settings is, select appropriate AV input. No indication of where this AV input is. Not on the machine or my telly. I'm sure lots of people know where the AV is. I don't. Very slow rewind/fast forward. A bit hit and miss. Volume setting needs to be almost off the scale. Bags of fun when I return to just the TV. I'm almost blasted out of the room.
I'm hanging on to my old one.

V helpful and prompt service
I needed to replace an old TV/DVD recorder and phoned Richer Sounds - my usual source of Hi Fi and the like. Their staff identified the best buy for my requirement and gave me free next day delivery as well - available on this product.
All good news
