Pro-Ject E1 (Black)
Turntable
£249
With quality engineering and practical features, the Pro-Ject E1 is the perfect turntable for getting started with vinyl – or returning to it.
The ideal introduction to vinyl
Whether you’re new to vinyl or dusting down your old LPs, the Pro-Ject E1 offers the perfect blend of sound quality and practical features. Built to Pro-Ject’s high standards, the E1 is solidly made, with a CNC-machined composite fibre plinth, aluminium tonearm and Ortofon cartridge. Unlike other budget decks that offer a fixed speed or awkward belt change, the E1 has electronic speed control, making it easy to switch between 33rpm albums and 45rpm singles.
Made for great sound
With a vast amount of experience and design expertise, few can beat Pro-Ject for turntable knowhow. Take a look at the design and build of this turntable and you can see that experience shine through. The CNC-machined plinth has no hollow spaces and provides excellent vibration resistance. Combined with the isolation feet and anti-resonance platter, this gives the E1 a well-damped, low distortion sound. The high quality, isolated DC motor gives smooth and stable pitch for lifelike sound.
Newly designed, aluminium tonearm
With an arm-tube made from a single piece of aluminium and fixed headshell, the tonearm is both light and rigid. The more rigid a tonearm, the more precisely it tracks, meaning you get to hear every nuance of detail from your records. For ease of use, all the tonearm settings are factory-set, meaning this Project deck is ready to play, straight from the box.
Complete package – with Ortofon OM5E cartridge supplied
Part of the standard package includes a pre-fitted Ortofon OM5E cartridge. Highly regarded, this quality budget cartridge gives a smooth, detailed sound that’s at home with all types of music. As part of the Optimum Match (OM) range, the stylus is upgradable to 10, 20, 30 and 40 models, giving plenty of scope for future upgrading.
Electronic speed change
Another feature that makes the E1 a great starter deck is the electronic speed control. Many decks in this class either have no speed control or a fiddly twin pulley system that means you manually have to move the belt from one pulley to another. With the E1 you get a simple switch that adjusts between 33 and 45 speeds at the click of a button. If you have a decent collection of singles and regularly switch speeds, electronic speed control makes all the difference to your user experience.
Choice of finishes
The simple, elegant styling gives the E1 a timeless appeal. Available in black, white or walnut finishes, there’s a colour to suit your style. All models come with a removable dust lid.
Get into the groove, with the Pro-Ject E1 turntable.

Manual player, good sound but very light weight.
This is a good player with a full sound but it is a pain having to lift the arm to the record. The stylus skips across the label if i'm too slow to stop it. The player itself is very light and slides around the surface when i lift the lid to put a record on. I think i would have preferred the automatic one. Nice to hear my old singles and lp's again.
