Cambridge Audio Solo (Graphite)
Moving Magnet Phono Preamplifier

Perfect for amps without a phono preamp built-in
Many amplifiers no longer come with a built-in phono preamp, which is fine if you don’t use vinyl but not so good if you want to spin some records. The Cambridge Audio Solo is a dedicated Moving Magnet phono preamp, meaning you can add a record deck to just about any amp or system with a standard AUX input. This means your choice of stereo amp or receiver is greatly expanded and, of course, you can retain the Solo phono preamp if you upgrade your main amp.
Perfect for amps with a phono preamp built-in!
Even if your main amplifier already has a phono preamp built-in, the chances are that the one inside the Solo is considerably better. Using a dedicated, switch mode power supply, the Solo is far quieter than most built-in phono preamps. The revised circuit board layout with surface-mount components further reduces noise and distortion. Factor in the shielded casing and you’ll simply hear more music and less background noise.
Subsonic filter
Not all records are pressed the same – due to the poor quality of vinyl used, some sound considerably nosier than others. Wear and tear can play its role in reducing the quality, too. With its subsonic filter, the Solo filters out low frequency rumble; reducing distortion and protecting your speakers’ woofers from excessive wear.
Make a stronger connection with your record collection, with the Cambridge Audio Solo – it’s the best upgrade to your vinyl playback you can make.

Excellent sound quality
Does what it says on the tin. Purchased from Richer Sounds which is always the best option in my opinion. Used this for my Project turntable and very happy with the result.

You won't be disappointed with the Alva solo
After reading many good reviews about the Cambridge Alva solo, I decided to visit Richer sounds and enquire more about this pre-amp. The assistant was really helpful and suggested I take home a ex display model to try out and hear for myself for a couple of days. The sound from my integrated amplifier (Yamaha AS501) was good, but the Alva solo breathed new life into my vinyl, everything came through much brighter with more detail especially the percussion plus thighter bass. This pre-amp looks good, is well made plus automatically goes into standby mode if not used for 20 minutes, but can be overridden if you don't prefer this feature. If you want to up grade the sound of vinyl, the Alva solo mm is a great start

Essential Phono Stage.
The Cambridge Audio Solo does a fine job on the output of my Rega Planar 1
Turntable. The sound quality is excellent. No earth connection needed with
this turntable. Useful Auto power down after 20 mins.

Cambridge solo phono pre amp review
I bought the solo after weeks of reading reviews online of various phono pre amps. I had the phono stage in my av receiver which sounded OK but was prone to noise. So my first outboard phono stage was the fosi audio box x2 which I bought over a year ago after watching a positive review on YouTube. It sounded poor in my system until I replaced the supplied tubes. This improved the sound massively and I was happy until I replaced my audio technica cartridge for an ortofon. I now found that loud passages of music would sound distorted. After weeks of comparing reviews my shortlist was the Rega mm mk5 and the Cambridge solo. I had heard the Rega on a demonstration and was impressed by how good the overall sound was, Very life like and nothing overdone. I decided to go for the solo purely on perceived build quality and looks. (it looks sooo much better than the rega , I would recommend looking at the internals on both, you can tell the level of engineering that has gone into the Cambridge by comparing its pcb layout to the Rega).
So how does it sound. Smooth I guess would be a good description. Very good deep bass resolution you can hear each individual note and texture. The midrange is clean, detailed and sibilance free. The treble is smooth and silky with no harshness but enough clarity and bite. Background noise and hiss is very well controlled, almost completely silent. I'm really impressed by how good it is overall. The only thing I don't like is the power light stays on when on standby although it's dimmer than when it's playing. My only regret would be not buying one the first time round, instead of being tight fisted and buying the fosi audio.
Lesson learnt you get what you pay for.
